I won't pretend having a lot of world knowledge and just being all around intellectual is common in Thailand, but it's also obvious that the circle of people most guys in this thread hang out with is usually club girls, tinder girls, motorbike drivers, etc. Wtf do you expect? Met a decent bunch of Thais at Muscle Factory (bodybuilding/powerlifting is more of an upper-class thing to do here..) that spoke really good english and appear quite smart, engineers, real estate developers, etc.

Also deep conversations are overrated, people intellectually masturbate and boost their ego thinking they're the **** contributing to the world, lol no (most anyway). Just chill and enjoy life, I love that thais give no ****s about this ****. When I need a fix, circle of bros is always there to hang out. Coming from a physics/poker background, it's so refreshing.

8rysh is right about eishundo sounding bitter as ****. The hate and resentment just reeks from your post. There's no reason to be this emotionally attached to an opinion about a country. It just sounds like you might've been mistreated or had bad experiences while in Thailand, which is very often a mirror of your own state of mind.

What's a shoebox, a 25 sqm studio? You can find that for a lot less than $750 (24,800 baht) on a 1-3 month contract, 2 mins from a central BTS station. If you mean 45 - 60 sqm one bedroom on a 1 month contract then ok it's getting harder. But 'shoddy' / 'convenient' are very subjective, your definition might vary from others.

+1 this is pretty spot on. I still think it's great, landed 8 years ago.

What's central? If you have to live in Asoke to Thonglor then yeah, but you can be a few BTS stops away, walkable to BTS, and get that price with pool.

Quote:
warm places in Europe like Malta, Spain or Portugal you can rent a decent studio (no gym or pool though) for 600 USD as well. No big city life though and western women are entitled garbage.
Right so you can't find it for 400 with pool there either, and not in a big city type area, so therefore BKK is cheaper and better

Current state as in the politics? It doesn't really affect me as a foreigner. I still live the same fun hedonistic lifestyle I did before. Since the military dictatorship maybe the visas got a little bit harder but it's still fairly easy, I haven't had problems yet. Some nightclub closing times became a bit shorter, some nightlife venues got closed down, but overall not much difference.

I bet $400 gets you a way better apartment in the middle of the city in North Korea than it does here, therefore BKK is a RIP OFF!

Obviously "deep-thinking" is subjective and I expect to get roasted for the above. It'd be easier for me to respond if someone would describe what kind of "deep-thinking" they find elsewhere but not in Thailand.

Iliveinasia and eishundo don't really seem interested in backing up their thoughts, though. Rose-colored, blah blah blah...

No more braindead arrogant thais, no more of their terrible language, no more of the awful food, no more visa runs and immigration bull****.

I really dont see the appeal tbh the place isnt even cheap any more. And the girls are really ugly compared to other places. Only appeal of thailand is easy pussy really and thats just not enough to put up with all the nonsense after a while.
my last trip to bangkok was the final straw for me.

don't get me wrong, i still enjoyed it.

to enjoy it though was poor value for money compared to elsewhere in the region.

having travelled a lot elsewhere in south-east asia in recent years i noticed how horrible the attitude of thais were. many almost go out of their way to be rude in everyday situations. i would say the rudest country in south-east asia and not even close. these people won't give you eye contact or a genuine smile. their default setting is treat you as an annoyance rather than someone keeping you in your 500 baht per day job. their attitudes towards farang have definitely worsened. and it's not me because i travelled elsewhere in the region and was treated like an equal.

i'm not complaining. i'll go to other countries and dump my money. i've enjoyed thailand a lot over the years and have had great memories, but now i can go elsewhere and have a better time around less miserable people and for less money.

the whole wearing white, black, grey and dressing like old women is weird. it's been a year now. the place in so sombre and depressing.

throw in the fact the gogos are worse than ever and what's the point?

The nightlife thing is kind of a drag for people wanting to party. Compare it to 10 years ago and there were plenty of places to go after 2am. Ya, there were a couple of blips of crack downs but everything went back to normal shortly. The present day "new normal" is a disgrace to the Bangkok legacy.
I'm sure it will bounce back but it's been pretty bad for awhile.

I find this to be completely untrue for me. Having recently been to Cambodia, the vibe I got there was a little like this but instantly on arrival back in Thailand lots of people give me a smile (fake or not, still polite). So much so that I feel weird when I go home to Canada and no one seems to care I exist in everyday encounters. Being white and young in south east Asia plays a big role I think. Filipinos/filipinas generally pretty friendly too.

As proof I just went to take my laundry to a shop that I had only been to once about 2 months ago. As soon as I walked in the old lady smiled and said my name. I didn't even recognize her to put it into context. That stuff just doesn't happen in the west.

BKK is a huge international city. Many of the people I've met have visited far more countries than I have, which gives them a varied perspective.

Thats my experience too.
People in NA are some of the nicest people I ever met. And the women are gorgeous, much more attractive than Thai women to me.

Whats funny is there are tons of guys here bitching about the US and Europe nonstop. How its expensive, a nanny state, how its hard to get laid...

I dont go around calling them broke losers that couldnt hack it in the first world.

I dont call them low-IQ simpletons either, if they find it fullfilling to hangout with Thais (who are some of the most vapid and braindead people I've ever met).

But once you say a negative thing about Thailand these exact same guys will call you all kinds of names. Then youre bitter, jealous, you didnt try hard enough or whatever else nonsense they can come up with.

TBH I couldnt care less if somene wants to live on pennies in SEA and thinks its heaven on earth. More power to them.

But personally I believe theres more to life than that. And I'm very happy with my decision to leave SEA behind. I wouldn't return there if you paid me to... the place lost its luster for me.

Now if that somehow makes me a hater or bitter or whatever names they wanna call me... so be it I guess. To me it just shows that a lot of guys are emotionally invested in their little "Paradise" and cant stand to hear any criticism about it.

Look at guys like Jspill. The guy is a cool dude in my book and doesnt flip out once you talk **** about Thailand. And then look at other posters in this thread in contrast...

The smart ones will often have the same opinion as us, but they'll obv be shy to talk about it if there's anyone else around. Unless they leave the country and live overseas, which many of the smartest Thais do, so we rarely meet those ones.

I met a really smart girl on Thaifriendly, believe it or not, never banged her although I tried. Occasionally smart girls will actually use dating sites briefly for language exchange, or they want foreign friends because they're smarter than many of their Thai peers. Then they'll delete their profile pretty quickly when 100 Arab and Indian guys send them dick pics and sex for money offers.

She was on there for about a week and even though I couldn't bang her I kept in touch because it was refreshing to talk to one so smart. Obviously there aren't many, but they're out there.

She's a Law student at Thammasat, many of them are anti monarchy because of course in 1976 the military with the permission of the King murdered 100+ Thammasat students, in a massacre that today is only referred to as 'the Oct 6 event' (het kan hok tula), no official funerals for it, or any real recognition.

Her Facebook is like an alien species compared to most thai girls, none of the narcissism you normally see, instead it's all political commentary (on foreign country topics, those are safe to talk about) and all her pics are of her doing volunteer work, donating blood, teaching at English camps, building houses for the poor.

She explained how she hates the brainwashing about the monarchy.

Then another one I met on Thaicupid, didn't manage to bang her either, again was only on the site briefly to improve her English. Did volunteer conservation work in Alaska, played sports, did extra years in that military cadet thing uni students do. Kasetsart student

That's just two examples but you can also check the profiles of the kind of Thais who follow Andrew McGregor Marshall on Facebook. And like Torg0th said most guys make zero effort to meet these kind of girls, they just swipe on Tinder and go to afterhours clubs. Virtually no one learns the language to an advanced level either, how can they hope to have a deep conversation

Eishundo posts on other Thai forums and in the 2ish years ive seen his posts pop up ive never once seen anything positive about Thailand wrote(or anything really positive about anything outside of bragging about something). Consistently complains about the country, culture, food, and women.

We get it you dont like the country and you lived in Pattaya for a couple years and are over it. Most people on Thailand related forums and threads do like the country. When i stop liking something i dont go and tell everyone who does like it how bad it is and everything else is better its weird u do it so often.

I never said Canadians aren't nice. It's easy to end up being stuck in a door way for 30 seconds because everyone is gesturing the other person to go through first. If people in Canada smiled at me as much as people do in Thailand then there's a good chance they have some screws loose as it's not the norm to smile at every pass in Canada. But yes Canadians are generally friendly/polite.

When I walk into the supermarket in Canada there aren't 6 cashiers nudging each other giggling like 7th graders. Although it's super shallow, you get a false sense of importance/attention just doing every day things if youre a young white guy in Thailand/Phils.

Well, what's the avg Thai woman look like info? No question NA has hotter girls than asia imo. Just harder to find and more high maintenance which sways my vote to Asians for practicality purposes . Also Asians age better which matters for ltr.

Well said. I think it's also undeniable that the (false) sense of importance/attention has positive effects on every other aspect of life.

eisthundo hasn't made a valid point in his last several posts.

Go in a third world country then complains that he can not have deep conversations with the locals. Strong everything. That's why this countries are third world countries... People who like Thailand like this country because of the girls, the hot weather, the thai food, buddhism, the temples, the beaches, the hookers, bkk, muay thai or to smash girls who have a penis. If you want to have deep conversations with locals stay in the West and have fun banging girls brainwashed by feminism who look like meth addicts past 25 yo.

maybe i overreacted a little because i had the same feeling when i came back into thailand overland from cambodia several years ago.

at least in cambodia a night out costs me half of what it does in bangkok. and the people are poorer, more desperate, less educated compared to thailand.

the whole instagram, facebook, has compelled a lot of young women in the western world to keep in shape. there are two extremes now. one's that eat well and go to the gym and the fatties who don't try at all. 20 years ago i didn't see as many hot chicks on a summer day as i see now.

summer day in any western city vs siam square, western women are hotter and it's not even close. all the young thai women dress like it's a funeral, barely show any skin, and so many fatties in bangkok now (and creepy nose jobs).

it's hard to **** them is all. in south-east asia for a relatively small amount of money (or effort) you can **** chicks with decent bodies.
