To not get off topic of Thailand though, is that red/yellow symbolism of the current political situation in one of the paintings in Bug and the bedding/shirt/candles of Breaking Bad (S02E12 "Phoenix")?

Maybe even a wai going back to the "Down" episode of BB (homeless guy greets him as "Captain America") in addition to more red/yellow and motorbikes?

Modafinil brahs, whats the chances of my package being held at the post office if I try to order 200 pills through afinilexpress? I'm not game to go and try to pick it up if that happens.

Is that something you can get on your next visa run to Cambodia? Getting a package of outlawed pills delivered to you sounds kind of sketch.

I've ordered 100 pills, twice, both times it arrived fine.

Any recommendations for investigators/lawyers? I sent an couple emails to this group http://www.thailand-lawyer.com/contact.html but never got a response.

What I liked about them was they had both things I probably need in house, lawyer and investigator. Was just going to drop by their office, but they say appointment by consultation only. Walking around town seen a few other places offering investigation, but thinking I need the lawyer part a little more than investigator though.

It depends on which city you're in. Bkk customs are usually more lax, in Chiangrai they don't let anything through, they wouldn't even let me get my supplements when they ended up in customs. My advice is order smaller amount and don't use express mail, it increases your odds of getting it, express mail gets more attention at customs.

Dumb question, if I buy a mobile phone (Oppo) in an Oppo shop here in Thailand, can I use this phone in Europe with an EU sim card?

I've ordered 5/6 times between 50 and 300 pills. It got seized 2 (with afinilexpress), they shipped the first order a second time (for free) and it didn't make it through the customs, no problem to get the refund.

I went to the custom office the first time it got seized and not much happened, the officer just told me they randomly check and for the next time I should order less at a time (the order was 200 pills) or put the in a newspaper or something to lower the risk of the package being seized.

Hi, I will soon be coming long time to Asia, Thailand 6 month minimum.

Now, how do I convert crypto money to Thai money somehow? Since I don't want to cash it out to EU bank and then wire it to a Thai bank I don't even know.

How do you guys handle it?

Receive your cash directly into your bank account or claim it at 7-Elevens
Sounds easy, 7/11. Anyone tried it? ATM also possible, amazing.

What about taxes if you receive it on Thai bank account?

Some kind of tournament going on at Hustler's Pool bar last night. Seemed like a decent place with cheap pints of Chang. Anyone know of any other pool bars or laid back places with cheap beer?

Ended up at another gogo afterwards looking to spend money. Waitress came by and cleared my table and walked away with my half full johnny walker double. Not sure how they expect customers to spend money when they don't let them drink? That's a new business model for sure.

Hello all. I'm going to be visiting Bangkok for 5 nights and 4 full days starting late next week. I've already booked a hotel not far from the Nana BTS station. I'm hoping someone might have the time and inclination to help me get the most out of my short stay.

I'd appreciate feedback on any or all of the following:

A primary goal is to eat the most delicious Thai food possible. However, as a solo traveler, I'd prefer to stick to more casual places where I won't feel awkward eating alone. Price is not really an issue within reason and I'm open to street food or hole in the wall type places. Any suggestions?

I'm definitely going to do the obligatory temple tours around Bangkok. But I can't just eat and tour temples for 4 straight days. Besides getting lost in giant malls, what other touristy type stuff should I do? I think I'll take in a kickboxing match. Any thing else?

I'm considering doing a day excursion or even an overnight stay outside of Bangkok. Would consider a beach or island location, but not really interested in Pattaya. Also considering day tour to Ayutthaya. Should I get out for a day? And where to?

Lastly, on the odd chance that any of you are bored and want to get a beer with a 2005 reg date former lol limit poo flinger, shoot me a PM or just reply in the thread. I'm a normal mid-30s dude from the US. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Eating alone is always fairly awkward in Thailand because it's a very social thing there.

It's least awkward in food courts (food is always of dubious quality though and gives me the ****s) and japanese restaurants. Fuji, ramen places etc.

I'll grab a beer with you bro. As long as you keep in mind I kind of have a "black cloud" following me around as documented a few pages back.

Been here alone myself for a month and nothing has been awkward for me, but I've also given up on normal relations with humanity at this point so when you don't expect much nothing becomes awkward or disappointing.

Some fun things I've done so far - snake farm recommended in this thread is worth a look. Laughing gas and live music on Khao San Rd was good times as well. Roof top bars at Octave and Vertigo. Monitor lizards at Lumpini park. Chinatown markets are interesting along with weekend market at Chatuchak. Aquarium at bottom of Siam Paragon is supposed to be world class, but haven't gone yet. Same for any day trips/overnighters to waterfalls at Erawan.

Some interesting bars on Thong lo like Iron Fairies where I drank a bunch of supposedly real absinthe - ended up on RCA later with good vibes there (possibly the absinthe though), Rabbithole on Thong lo makes some mean drinks with good DJ, but expensive (500 baht for truffle martini), good massage places there as well. Also, let cabbies take me to random places a few times (didn't end so well one night - but hey nothing risked nothing gained - also that wasn't supposed to be random either). Looked for Microsoft/Adobe software at MBK and Pantip Plaza - need to bring you laptop with you. A "friend" also told me getting a burner phone without passport is easy - doesn't matter in my case though when govt is all over you (surveillance finds a way).

So, that's all stuff besides the obvious girls/temples. Was possibly looking at kickboxing match like you, but it's not really turning me on or off at the moment. Pink Panther gogo did a weird staged match halfway through the night that I guess I'd recommend. I think I read there might be cockfighting somewhere too, but that's not really my thing either.

Edit: Forgot Jim Thompson house and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre were a thumbs up. Also tried to find Tang Contemporary Art Gallery off Ratchadamri, but walked around clueless for an hour with no luck.

I feel bad declining the beer offer because you took the time to give a long and serious response to my questions. But I'm sure you understand...black cloud and all.

Thanks for the response, though! I'm glad you mentioned the Jim Thompson house. Of course it's on all the internet lists, but it's good to get an endorsement from a different type of source.

Yeah, I mean to an extent it's awkward anywhere. I guess I'm really just looking for recs on any delicious Thai food, with a preference towards more casual places where I can go in shorts and a polo and sit a the bar or something like that.

I m so tilted. Today I needed an english bank statement, went to a big Bangkok bank branch in bkk near Nana-Asok where I usually go when I need one. So staff barely speak english (tilt), ''sorry sir, can not write in english" (tilt again), me "but last time you did it in english no problem.." thai dude "now can not, new system only in thai'' (tilt) then all I hear is "mai ru, mai daii, mai mee" (****** tilt me), then tells me that only the bkk branch where I opened my account years ago can do it, bkk branch not in bangkok of course, so I will have to wait 3 ****** business day MININUM before to have it (TILT), me "ok, so maybe I can open a new account here?", thai dude "oh tourist visa! sorry sir can not!" TILT TILT TILT

eating alone isn't awkward at all in thailand.

if you go somewhere in thong lor then maybe it's awkward like it would be in a western country, but in a thai-style place everyone is just there primarily for the food and not to post photos on instagram so it's not.

being a foreigner, in the "real" restaurants with the "authentic" food i find they almost always be accommodating to a farang who has gone out of his way to get off the well-trodden path.

just relax, order some food, have some beers. servers are go out of their way to help, customers smile and are friendly sometimes trying to initiate chat.
