From what I've heard you're like 60/40 to ruin into deposit issues.
Best if you considerate like btc as money spent and anything back is a bonus.

Note, I've never had an issue

If you enter establishments frequented by wealthy thais you get the hint really quick that you aren't welcome there while more foreigner oriented places usually are happy to see westerners, as we tip, which locals don't do.
I lived in PP for 6 months and it was a very good experience, 3rd world country or not. Plenty of supermarkets and smaller malls ,coffee shops and good , cheap restaurants . Night life is as good as any city in Thailand. Internet is good enough as long as you stay in the city. I will return .

And apartments tend to be worse value for what you get.

Thats the one area where Airbnb is good for long term rentals, although youre paying a premium on the listing you usually(or at least I havent had to) dont have to pay a deposit.

This may be a broad question, but me and my wife and our kids are traveling to Thailand for the first time, so we are thinking about renting a car.

How likely is it that people get scammed in Thailand?
We were planing to rent one in my wifes town and we are trying to figure out weather we should go with the famous brand or local once?

In our town in udon thani, we have avis and budget and than we also have other less known companys, "locals" such as ud car rent www.ud-carrent.com and www.bestcarrentaludonthani.com Have any one of you experience renting from a local company in Udon Thani? Which one would you recommend we rent with?

Many thanks.

Hi

I'm coming to Bangkok soon and maybe I decide to live there for some time. Anyone with recommendations for apartments for roughly 200 bucks per month or less?

I found Parkland Mansion and K-house so far. Maybe let's say maximum 300$ basic monthly rate.

Thanks

I owned a vehicle and have Thai driving licences, I never had anything other than tourist visas. All you need is a certificate of residence, either from immigration or your embassy.

Myself and friends have rented cars from off brand companies and never had any issue but I always get maximum insurance because beating the **** out of rental cars is one of the finer pleasures in life.

Those are in Bang Na and quite far down Soi 71. No need to live that far out for $300.

Varzzon Residence is in Thong Lo, nice and modern rooms start at 10k ($300) http://www.varrzon.com/varrzon-sukhumvit-36/

http://rungaroonmansion.com/studio-room-41-sq-m/ Thong Lo again, about same price as Varzzon

http://www.ipremium-srp.com/ Slightly closer to BTS than k-house, and slightly nicer I think, starts from 8k

Depends on what quality / area / facilities you want but there are hundreds of places for $200 ish too, the cheaper end places tend to be on this Thai directory not on agency sites - http://www.tee-pak.com/en/

You can own a car, motorcycle, apartments and condominiums on tourist visas, so yeah you'll have no problem doing so with an elite. The only thing you cant own '100%' is land/house's and businesses.

I would be afraid to see a dentist out there, I am not saying they are not good dentist but if something goes wrong you could ruin your trip plus you do not have someone close to choke if they do screw up and you do not know till weeks later.
You can save a few buck but it can cost you thousands more because of the cost of the trip and you still have to get home to get it fixed.

I have Thai Elite, not sure offhand about buying a car but I'd be surprised if the Thai Elite staff couldn't get it done. They're pretty good.

What kind of things can they do for you? Are they basically a free concierge for you after you purchase the visa?

Thread today about a guy who left thailand for 2 months, that's a pretty long visa run, and he had only been in Thailand for 9 months on one visa (METV).

https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic...-it-be-racism/

Also had the 20k baht on him. That's the most extreme case so far.

They have a lot of concierge type services but are mainly business oriented and not something I need. They can help with bank accounts, drivers license etc but I already had all that. Also if you golf there are lots of discounts at golf courses plus restaurants and hotels.

Do you think it's been worth the cost for the convenience/benefits of having elite?

That guy was lucky to be allowed to fly back to Manila...

If you do the maths, Elite visa costs 8.333THB/month.
Cheap/quick visa runs every 3 month+extension (6500+1900) 2.800THB/month.
Cheap ED school+first visa (and travel to Laos to apply for it) and extensions (20000+2000*4+5500) = 2.800 THB/month.

So Elite has pretty poor value imo, even with the extra services they offer. But it's a 99% guarantee to be allowed to stay, so if you can afford it and want to see only Thailand for the next 5 years, why not...
