you'll just have to cut down a lot on stuff and find a cheap place to stay, or in my opinion, the better thing to do is find a coach to help you out on the poker area
Psssh for full time private teaching in language schools ( inlingua, ecc and so on ) the average is 50-60K, native speakers with a degree, telf and who can make students sign again for another course when the first is finish. ( 1h40min class is 760 five a day 21 days a month is 80k)

In crap schools with an agency 30k to start is the norm, 35k to 75k without one the norm is very vague there are tons of different kinds of schools.

If you have a teaching degree 70K if a normal starting salary in a good school, but you have to adapt a lot to the thai way it's easier said than done.

Smart people do school + private ( evening, WE ) 70K after a few months is not too hard if you are a good teacher.

Right now i'm averaging 60k without really pushing ( 44k school, about 16k private ) on the private students gigs ( it's also harder to find private since I teach french. I reckon a workaholic could make 90K but it's hardcore.

Please notice that to make money in Thailand teaching you have to like teaching.

Wrong plan for just a " i want long holiday" type imho.

Just a bit tired of the "30k a month teacher myth"

I already knew that Thai bar girls/prostitutes sometimes drug their customers and steal everything they have when they're out cold. I always assumed it was by adding a drug to a drink, but I just heard a couple of days ago that some Thai prostitutes put the drug on their nipples, and you can guess what happens next.

How common is this? And aside from going platonic in Thailand, any advice on protecting myself from getting rolled?

Also, any recommendations for bars, meeting places, or particular women in CM would be appreciated
Just be a little more careful if you pick up a freelancer (hide valuables things or just book another hotel room for the night). There should not be any risk at all with a regular working girl.

try this site..its what the thai people use to look for sheet and has more listings than any site i beleive

http://www.thaiapartment.com/

just pick 4 that look good than call and member, everything is negotiable. F--- brokers will get you a higher deposit and monthly rate... i once talked down a 30k baht deposit to 15k and the monthly from 16k to 13,500..than said meh..ill take this other spot instead. lol

OK 2+2ers... Arriving in BKK 2nd March before heading south to Phuket & Krabi to start the new life. Open schedule so looking for the "must see's" to cram into a couple of days of tourism. What do I have to do / see in BKK both Day & Night time before heading off???

Also wondering whether a Hotel or Serviced Apartment is going to be best. Any recommendations, looking for something baller-ish, not a hostel.

nighttime: rca, karafun, spicey/ spice, lucky7, nana plaza

something like that imo

this place is 2 blocks from soi cowboy, littered with massage places and 1 bts stop/50 baht taxi ride from nana plaza. the hotel/serviced apt i recommend is the rembrandt in the heart of sukhumvit its def balla.

P.S. try club spice on soi 11 in nana district, its under a big hotel just ask anyone on the street. other than those places gotta check out RCA. enjoy!

From what I've seen about the cost of living, 30k baht a month would be fine. I won't be living a life of luxury but then thats not what I'm looking for. Finding a good coach would be a definite possibility. It's probably too off topic to ask for details here but I'll check some of the threads about it.

Good advice. Getting a second hotel room for the night would add a layer of safety. Plus I'll be bringing two wallets, one with my US currency and another with Thai currency for going out. I'll go with the regular working girls instead of an iffy freelancer. It's my first trip to Thailand so I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open and my guard up, even though most Thais are good, gentle, and fun loving people.

someone fill me inn, whats so great about spicey? I went there 1 time and it didnt seem all that. Pretty small and nothing special. I would prefer spice then, since at least they got a live band which is decent.

Was more impressed by tunnel, went there 1 time and it seemed soo big. I was pretty damn drunk though so I might be very mistaken.

walk down riverside and listen to any khmer that approaches you

not really chasing the dragon. its more like hash than anything else. just dont ask for coke. way to expensive and the 'inert' ship they chop it with is 100x crazier than any drug ive ever had.
