Bangkok would be your best bet, other cities like Saigon are fine too, but won't have anywhere near the travel options since Bangkok is a major hub for basically every airline in the world.

If you get a provider that has fiber in your building in BKK, the connection is very good nowadays (still slower speeds to connect to overseas sites, etc but good enough, I have no complaints).

And my personal opinion is that BKK is way more fun than Chiang Mai, doubly so if you're into partying a lot. Jspill would tell you that if you want a more laid back area to go live on the outskirts. That's quite far from the center for a lot of attractions though, but some of those areas are quite developed themselves.

Bangkok sounds great for you, Internet in Thailand is quite decent nowadays if you find the right building.

So booking an airbnb in advance, how do I figure out which building has proper internet? Are there mobile 4Gs I could use as backup, does anyone have any experience with those?

Yeah 3G/4G is good enough for grinding usually.

Few things from my experience, might be lolsamplesize tho:

1) mobile internet didn't work well or at all when I stayed at 45th floor in a building

2) Internet was really good in any hotel and apartment I stayed during low season, but mostly sucked alot during high season when places were packed

No specific laws against or jurisdiction over foreigners playing poker on offshore websites in other currencies, just a general umbrella of no gambling aimed to protect Thais from themselves.

direct message owners on airbnb and negotiate long term rates. I've done it for 1-2 months before and paid barely more per month than a year contract would be. especially in non high-season you should be able to negotiate a good price

A bit of a noob question for someone who isn't familiar with the scene in bkk/at all.. When it comes to hookers, what are the risks? I'm guessing there virtually aren't any since it's so popular in Bangkok and word would spread fast if these were problematic/dangerous environments. Is it safe going by yourself? In the past when I've gone to similar places in other countries it's been with a group of friends when we've all been super drunk, and that's obviously a completely different thing. I'd rather go by myself if my goal was to pick up a girl, but not if it would mean that it'd be much riskier/more difficult.

How does it work exactly? I'm assuming you go to one of these go-go bars or whatever, and in there it's all pretty self-explanatory? Are all these bars located in the same area (ish)? Do they mix regular girls with ladyboys or is there a strict, and clear, division?

Once you're into a girl you feel like leaving with, how does that work? Do you pay in advance or after? Do you just pick out a girl and then leave with her and go back to your own place? Doesn't seem like anything that would ever go down in Europe, but that's how it works in bkk I guess?
