what happens if i go for my extension after my 30 day exemption's already expired?
I went to Jomtiem immigration last week for my 30 day extention on my tourist visa. Turned up as I usually do with just passport/photo/cash and the (polite) form filling lady outside asked straight away "do you have your rental contract with you", which I didn't. She then asked "do you have your last rental bill showing the address of your condo on it", I didn't. She politely told me this is now required. I went back to the room, grabbed my last months bill which luckily showed the condo address, which was accepted once I returned - despite it being a bit of a mess and my landlords written rental/bill figures being almost inelligible.
There was no mention of any requirement for any landlords ID.
It was a bit more of a pain than previous visits. Theres more forms to complete - it took her about 10 minutes to complete 3 or 4 forms, before was simply 1. I use to give 50 baht to the lady, but felt 100 baht was more reasonable now (she didn't ask for this though).
I then went to get my ticket, but now the process is slightly different - I was asked to go upstairs so the staff there could verify my address document. Done that after waiting 5 mins and went back for a ticket. They then asked me to go to another room and have this document photocopied. Done that after waiting for 5 mins. Went back for a ticket, and got it!
I arrived there at 8.30am (9am once I went back to room). It was reasonaby quiet there, and once I had my ticket it only took 15 more minutes to get out. My only advice to people who need to visit for this reason is to turn up with the rental contract or previous months bill, and turn up early - at 8.30am. Get the forms sorted quickly and be near the beginning of the que. I can only imagine how long this process might of taken had I of turned up at the same time as most the lazy farrang.
