There is 5 of us in total I think all poker players aged from 19 to 21, four from Sweden and myself from UK, between us we play high to low stakes. The plan is to move out to Thailand in late January early February and like all before us get a place set up with decent Internet, grind away and maybe have a beer in the afternoon as well!

That’s all we have at the moment, were still not sure on where in Thailand exactly and was planning on just finding a house/apartment to rent when we get there but things never go smoothly so hoping you guys can fill us in on what we need to do and how to get prepared for whats ahead

Huge thanks in advance.

Have posted this in both Thailand threads to make sure it doesnt miss anyone.
first things first i'd find out exactly where in Thailand you want to go. Phuket and Bangkok are obviously the 2 most popular destinations but they couldnt be more different so i'd definitely figure that out first.

High class hotels in silom have good connections though, Kotkis used to have a decent line there.

Btw if you come to phuket, im still open to raping you and hoping that the gods bring me your genius child.

Sup guys, I might be coming out Jan. to train muay thai among other things. A couple questions I haven't' found answered about $...How do you guys pull $ out of your bank accts? Are there American banks? Do you get it out of ATMs only? Are there ATM fees? Can you open a thai bank acct that you can cash a check from a poker site or the equivalent? Also, does anybody live near or know any decent places to stay near Tiger muay thai as seen below? I also might train at Rawai beach but gonna check em out first. Thanks to anyone that can help

where do you plan to live when you get here? mmerli lives close to tiger muay thai, but that area kinda sucks (no beaches, lots of traffic).

what was i thinking for going to patong, imo it would be nice like in pattaya but no. patong had a dancing show which was nothing like it a real thai loy krathong dancing show, there was a bunch of hookers wearing traditional thai wear(like spitting on this country's face) and countless fat tourists, white families and black dudes wondering why they cant get laid(true stories)

about 1km from my house theres a big lake with small houses around and at one place they have a small gazebo. they had street vendors with food i had never seen.. ever and i live near a food market, they tons of xmas lights, free alchool, good luck fish and for the best they had that loy krathong song on massive repeat.

you could use a small boat for free to bring your krathong in the middle of the lake or just put it on the sides, theres no current so it didnt really matter.. according to gf it was about the same as in issan. Was really beautiful. couple kids wearing traditional wear with cheap fabric because they were poor, everybody smiling.. havnt seen that many thais smiling since i left the grand president hotel last year(tip smiles obv)
Nice.
Was pretty terrible in bangkok just way too many people and poor kids who dive in the tepid water to take the money from the kratongs...
Maybe in was better in other parts of town dunno

Oh yeah, enjoy Dream hotel. I liked it there a lot but the staff is kinda weird lol. I'm staying at the Park Plaza 20th-23rd then S15 I think for nye but since I now know that they don't have a pool I might just go back to dream.

Thanks for the reply. So you pay for everything (rent, food etc) from ATMs? Seems like the fees would add up quick.

I guess I plan on staying near Tiger, unless it isn't a long drive from a nicer area. Do you have any recommendations?

So I'm quite likely at this point to move to Thailand (BKK) at the end of December for a few months. What is the best way to get a cheap flight there. Best I can find is $1600 on China Airlines.

What about accomodation? Best bet is to get a short-term rental or hotel for a bit while trying to find a place there I take it? Any hotel recommendations with very solid internet and a good work area (for a 17" laptop + 30" monitor)? Is a hotel or short-term rental better for the first month? Any good places to find rentals (short and longer term)?

Yeah I know these are very basic questions, but after reading 80-million pages I still don't have good answers.

If anyone has any interest in splitting baller-style accomodations, let me know. I'd be willing to pay almost anything if the place is right.

Hi adam, I cant help you with the flight but as fas as accomandations go i can help a bit.

First it depends on where u want to stay, I take that you want to check out bkk and phuket first. Samui possibly but there are a few players know to my knowledge. Thailand has decent hotels to human prices. If you stay like 1 month in bkk and 1 month in phuket obv its better to get a shortterm deal. Either with a hotel or look for a servied apartment, check out www.maleesuites.com . I spend a month there and its very good, its clean modern and even a bit luxurious with good internet and decent location.

Another 2p2 went there on my suggestions and he told me he likes it.

Iam living in a house about a 45min -1h taxi ride from central bangkok. I currently live alone and have 2 empty bedrooms so that would be an option too.

I am looking to mostly live in Bangkok and just do some week trips out to different areas. My plan is to stay in Bangkok for the most part though probably through May before heading off to Europe for the summer.

Why are you currently living so far from central Bangkok? If you have any info about the house I might be interested. I assume you use a motorbike to get to BKK if you want to.

As far as locations in BKK, I'm looking for something not in the middle of hooker/backpacker central. Something like a centrally located upper class area with good transit links. Unless these areas absolutely suck and I'll be having to take the SkyTrain everywhere. Don't really know enough about the city to say for sure what area I'd like to be in.

I stay there because its at least 50% cheaper then if i rented a similar house in a central area. I just pay like 800$ for a 2 storey house with 3 bed and bath rooms maid quarters hard cooking and westen kitchen, garden with a little koy fish pond and a marine auqarium build into the wall between the office and the living area. The office also views into the garden. The living are has a red l shaped sofa and a big flatscreen TV with dvd player and 5.1. surround. Might sound a little more awesome then it actually but its really nice i think.

If i want to go to central bkk i take a cab for about 6-7$ .

i dunno the prices but my gf paid 30k for 70square meter 2br there.. my guess for 2k usd a month u get some real baller stuff.. and those buildings are all newish

I have a good one:

Quote:
The Education Ministry has been asked to explain why Saowabha Vocational College used its funds, staff and students in the wedding of the education minister’s son on what was called a “training programme”.

The college in Phra Nakhon district was said in a complaint by people who withheld their names to have been heavily involved in an elaborate wedding ceremony for Chanawee Charoensiri, the third and youngest son of Education Minister Srimuang Charoensiri.

The ceremony was held yesterday at Mr Srimuang’s residence in the morning and at the Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok hotel on Vibhavadi-Rangsit road during the evening.

Under a college order No 204/2551 issued on Friday, staff were assigned to provide catering for nine monks and 300 guests in the morning function from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The order specified the names of the staff and their responsibilities, as well as the expenses to be covered by the budget set aside for raw materials for training and education development.

A previous college order, No 197/2551, issued on Oct 24, appointed a committee to oversee the design and production of the wedding souvenirs and packaging.

The panel members, who included college officials and lecturers, were named in the order.

They were told to produce a letter seeking permission from parents to allow 20 third-year students to make and pack the souvenirs. (Bangkok Post)

ugh i feel dirty asking this question because i know it has been asked a ton buutttttt i was wondering if any one had any recommendations for serviced apartments? (i searched the thread honest! i am just a donk at 2p2)

i checked out the manylevels recommendation but it looks like you can't do as short term as i need. High speed reliable internet is the most important thing for me by far. The horrendous life tilting connection we have here in phuket has already cost me around $4k USD.

Basically i need somewhere from around the dec 8th to jan 2nd just for myself then will be looking for some 2 to 3 bedroom places when some of team kata migrates to BKK.
