Just set up everything while you are in the states. Its pretty unwise to make an account with a thai residential adress and a Thai Bank Account because gambling here is illegal.

Atms will work perfectly with your atm card.

Your idea on paper is fine. I just hope that you have met all the guys irl before you go and stay with them in the same house for 3 months.

Also, phuket is one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive place in thailand. You wont be living like a king for 1k/month(yea i know that is probably half joke but just in case). atleast not in ">American mansion"

Also, January is still high season here and most places are fully booked. It might be difficult to find a place at that time of the year. And you obviously dont want to rent anything without seeing it in real life.

Come here, scout some places, get to know each other for a few weeks and commit to living together and renting a house after that.

There is a big crew here welcoming you and helping you getting a place etc if you need help.

I didn't read all of your thread from SSNL so I might have stated some obvious stuff for you but from my personal experience I felt that you should know this before you make any big decisions.

I came here in may for a month and then went back to finland for 6 weeks and now staying here for a long time. After the first trip I knew what I didn't want. That's why I felt like i should write this

Good luck and see you guys soon.

Living with 1 person you've never met in person is probably fine, living with 5 has serious trainwreck potential, especially in Thailand.

I agree its not foolproof, but we would only have three to a house, and Ive talked to the others (shipitfma especially), and they seem really cool and laid back. Combined with going out a lot, and having something that takes a lot of time in common (poker), I think it will work out.

I'd say Bangkok is a lot more expensive than Phuket... but it's always up to you... can live cheap here too, but very easy to spend 70K bath a month

I used to live on like 40-50K bath a month in Phuket, not cutting back on anything. If you wanna live in Patong and party every night I guess price goes up hehe.

yeah, from the original OP we've found out a lot more about thailand and our plan has changed somewhat.

Now we're just going to be staying with a few other in the house and realise that 1k is definately an unrealistic amount on money to spend.

Like, our plan now is to meet up in Phuket around the first week of Jan, just get temporary accom and then do our best to try find longer term accom for the rest of the time we're there. Like you said Lessu, the other 2p2ers I've spoken to said it will be more difficult to find accom during that time, but they definately said it's doable and not to worry to much about it because something will always be there.

Like, worst case scenario is we rock up, pay a little bit more than we should for a house a little bit worse than we would have liked. I'm not really that phased if that happens though, so it's all good

Oh, ok, having three guys to a house would be fine. It would be cool if you could rent a 2+2 compound with a couple houses in it.

Its easy to open a thai bank account, go to a kasikorn office on sukhumvit and show a lease agreement and your passport, take 30 min. They dont need a work permit.

moneybookers doesnt allow gaming transactions to Thai bank accounts

But any money could be clever enough to open one with thai bank and one with normal bank, then send from normal to thai one then withdraw.. costing a little more than a wiretransfer but easiere.

Or am i wrong and most monkeys could not?

which thai bank allows monkey to have bank account. maybe if they have work permit i guess.

i checked with mb if they stopped transaction to poker sites from thai ip address. they said no and a guy did conduct a wd but i wont realy know till next week when i go back to thailand.

mb is so convenient. i would hate to have to start using bank wires, not ex and expensive.

BANGKOK – The nine judges of Thailand’s Constitutional Court have agreed to try former Prime Minister Samak Sundarevej’s gaeng keo wan in order to determine if his green curry betrays the national cuisine.

“I have ordered Samak’s gaeng keo wan for lunch in the court chambers on October 20,” said the court’s secretary-general Paiboon Varahpaitoon. “I will invite the other eight judges to the trial and, if we agree it is mai aroi, we will ban Samak from cooking.”

There are only two verdicts possible in Thailand: aroi or mai aroi. ( NDLR: Delicious or Not Delicious )

Analysts predict that even though Samak will have a whole month to prepare the curry, the judges will unanimously dislike it and declare it mai aroi.

“The tide is clearly against Samak now,” said legal expert Thanit Changthavorn. “Even if his recipe is authentic and the gaeng keo wan is actually ‘aroi mak mak jing jing’, the judges will find fault. They can argue it is too salty or too sweet.”

PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang, who claims to have tried Samak’s recipe, said it is “a total corruption of Thai traditional recipes.”

Chulalongkorn political analyst Thitinan Phongsudhirak said that Samak may choose to flee the kitchen if he believes the court will be biased against his curry, but that the action would have its own risk. “If the green curry does not appear in court on October 20, the judges will be very hungry,” he said.

does anyone have experience with getting to thailand from a non west-coast us city? i'm wondering if there's any use in booking a flight separately to a place like san francisco or la and booking my flight to bkk from there (rather than from washington, dc to bkk).
