Shouldn't you go home and visit mom at least every other year anyways?

Fake marriage is a terrible idea if you won't even qualify for a real passport of the country your fake wife is from.

Am I correct in thinking its basically impossible for any foreigners to become Thai citizens ?

People on thai visa did so, but it's not easy and Thailand is not exactly a foreigner friendly country. A third world passport is the nut low if you travel frequently and you'll need visas for most countries, which is a huge hassle.

I'm always amazed at the hoops people are willing to jump through just to remain in Thailand, but it hardly gets more depressing than being a mid to low income earner in the UK, so I guess that's a point.

If you do any real business and aren't dead set on thai hookers then HK, Singapore etc. are much easier business visa wise and aren't exponentially more expensive than living decently in Bangkok.

yeah depends on the time spend in the country, for me it 9 months into the visa and they let me pass fairly easy.

I just landed at donmuang. The immo guy skimmed my passport and asked what i did here, i have just got a single entry TR visa from Penang - So i refrained from telling him BIG BUSINESS!

Anyway i asked him if there is a new rule coming in about only making visa in your home counrty, he said no, he acutally was quite cherpy and friendly for an immo officer so had a bit of a chat with him - BIG BUSINESS - always making conections.

As i walked through customs they took me to one side and put my bag through scanner.

I doubt they're the first to be aware of any upcoming changes, but even the announced proof of funds and ticket out of thailand requirement did not apply to me recently for an extension, so the enforcement seems to be selective at best.

If you want to do it by income rather than a lump sum, then you need a letter from your embassy confirming your income, which you probably don't want to do for poker.

Then you will also be held over a barrel by a Thai girl for the entirety of your stay, she could just decide one day that 20k per year isn't nearly enough and your visa is gone.

A business visa would be a much better way to go about it. They are more expensive to get than an education visa (mostly because you first have to set up a company which involves around 30k baht worth of legal fees), but after that you don't have to rely on the whims of some random Thai girl to remain in the country. You'll be paying the money to a company instead, which is set up basically for no reason other than to facilitate business visas.

The only issue with the business visa is that you will still have to do visa runs every three months unless you are eligible for a work permit (which basically means your business has to employ some Thais too, and you will have to pay payroll tax).
I can make a letter from my Embassy confirming my income. If you find that scary then put 400k in your bank account. Your wife on paper doesn't know about your account. And when I talked about bringing money into the country I wasn't talking about just 400k. If you have 400k on your bank you can easily withdraw and run should your wife divorce you.

Yes you'll be reliant on a girl. That's why you will have no contact with the girl whatsoever and she just gets money every now and then through a third person. Don't be a penis. It's a great idea.

Also getting back to back business visas does not work. I was held up on my 5th visa and received a note in my passport and would not have been able to enter on my 6th. You need to find a job on the business visa. Also you can only get 1 year business visas if you are going to Australia or your home country. Otherwise they'll be for 3 months only.

I know people who have been living here on business visas for 20+ years with no job. They do border runs every 3 months and re-apply for the visa every 12 months. Every time they have got the 1 year business visa from Malaysia. I know at least a dozen people in Samui who live here in this fashion. Most of these guys own their own cars etc so don't mind driving to Malaysia or Ranong every 3 months (mostly to get away from their girlfriends).

haha Jspil you must have been in some interesting countries if Thailands internet is better

Lessu, isn't it a lot of hassle to make the visa stuff if you want to travel a lot in and out? I lived in Thailand for 4 years with not much travel. Enough is enough.

I said I can make one. Not ask the Embassy. It's not as if they'd confirm it.

They are probably getting a bit more strict on business visas then. And still being married is easier than getting a business visa. Cheaper too.

that's one of the reasons why the people choose(d) thailand, this feeling of freedom, easy visa (visa runs, multi ed visa 1 year without problem) with possibility if u are young to live here for long term... now with all these visa changes this feeling of freedom is over
