I think Moneybookers may be easier to handle for you Canadian guys. Moneybookers wouldn't let me sign up with a U.S. bank account so I had to open a Thai bank account and then go from there. It was a big pain to verify my address because the verification letter they sent me never arrived so I had to get a letter from the bank verifying my address.

Further, increasing my limits has turned out to be impossible as the ways to do so are to register a credit/debit card or to verify my address. As mentioned before the address method was no go and all of my U.S. credit and debit cards were not acceptable, presumably because they are from U.S. banks and I have a few guesses as to why my Thai debit card wouldn't work but I won't spell it out here.

Good luck to anyone who wants to use them if you're from the states. Also, if anyone has any advice please let me know. It'd be great if my limits were enough to make my account practically functional.

Have you talked to them? They have a limit level called "professional gambler" with massive limits. It requires special verifications but you could inquire how to get that level.

Wow, good advice! I called them and asked about increasing my limits and suddenly the documents I sent in before are now good enough to increase my limits.

hey guys, very quick checkup.

if you could pick 4 (consecutive) months to live in thailand, which ones would you choose?

january-may or something has the best weather obv but not sure how big of a disadvantage is the tourist peak and higher prices to rent something.

would you prefer the rainy season because of prices and less tourists?

(sorry if this has been asked 250times before)

January-May is alright. The high and low season times depends on what you do. For nightlife july-august is busier than feb for example.

I would choose any 4 month period that include April because of Songkran

no question those months are november 1st-feb 28.

well, i guess if you are looking to save money or avoid crowds that would be the worst time to come though heh. that is high season and by far the best weather. great time to be in thailand.

I preferred the months on either side of high season. Oct/March/April were my favorite months. Having all these Scandi tourists around can be a real drag.

Hey ya'll. This place is great. Such nice people and the food is... wow.

Any suggestions on a place in Bangkok around 15k-20k tb? I'm not even sure which area I should be checking out. We ended up at the sui/nana area and have just been checking things out by foot but nothing's really stood out yet.

Also, one other thing. What sort of convertor do you need for electronics? We picked up something that provided the ability to connect western electronics, but it apparently didn't lower the voltage (thai outlets seem to be 250v?). My GF plugged her flat curling iron in and it melted itself. lol

haha i blew the power supply on my computer the first time i plugged it in. was pretty scary. funny now though, what a newb.

they sell the converters at MBK, Fortune Plaza, Pantip and i'm sure a bunch of other places. you have to find somebody there that speaks english descent and explain it to them. make sure they don't just give you one that allows you to plug it in, but one which actually converts the voltage. here they use a lot more juice.

you mean per month?

if you are with your girlfriend i wouldn't think you'd want to stay on soi nana but whatever heh. go checkout thong lor or ekhamai. also silom and long suan are good as well.

thanks for the advice khun.

man, I'm loving this place more and more each day. the thing that's the coolest is the complete disorderly order in just about every aspect of everyday life. i couldn't have even imagined what this would be like a few days ago. is this unique to thailand?

no unfortunately you'll probably have to go without. the quality is horrible and the penalties if you are caught are insane.

Yeah quality is crap, prices are ridiculous (in Baht terms), and you never know if the guy is gonna tarp you with the cops or anything. Just stay away from it. Beer is super cheap and gets the job done.

Saw some dude light up a reefer at the FMP earlier this year and within seconds was swamped by plainclothes. Dude was off his nut and had no idea what was going on, tried to make a break for it with another friend trying to pull him out of the foray. Cops where kneeing him and everything. Was pretty surreal with hard trance going on all around all all these Gen Y hippies dancing around them.

THIS MAKMAAK

I bought some crappy weed for just 500 baht wich was pretty cheap however the weed was crap, it looked like hash but was actually weed i think, the color was more brown then green and it had seeeds in it... the high wasnt great so I didnt tought about it it anymore and carried it around in my funny pack for like 1 week...

one day I was heading to MBK to buy some PS3 Game as the police stops my motorboke taxi at Asoke...first I was totally cool and didnt have any thoughts but by the time the policeman wanted to look into my pack something striked me and I got nervous makmaak...

he almost didnt found it as I carry alot of trash in there but eventually he saw it gave me a look smiled to his fellow policeman and told me to follow him...so I sit down in there and all sorts of thoughts going through my mind as in germany id propably just laugh at them because no judge would do **** about some grams of weed...

in berlin its like nothing happens under 30 grams but in here u can go to jail for years then i thought about thai jails...lol what a ****ty situation that was...the cops didnt say anything just asked for my passport and some random stuff where iam from and what i do etc...

So eventually I ask the guy who found it what we can do? In anticipation to start talks about a bribe...so I kinda ask him if i have to pay a fine playing stupid so he doesnt have to loose in front of me...he laughs and gets serious shortly after...that was demoralizing makmaak... I ask him gently again and he kinda smiles shakes his head and says he could go to jail...fuuuuck thats was ruff...

Anyway I refuse to accept that I cant buy my way out of here and try to stay calm cool...I eventually ask again and tell them that I have family etc... he asks his boss who seemed uninterested as I was just a random thai huy with no driving license...

I talked with him and when I brought the "fine" thing up he just shook his head..I didnt know what to say and stayed quite sitting on my chair...some random black guy comes in and they talk...i believe he had problems with his visa...I cant remember...There was also a thai male sitting in the whole time who was my hope...

I tried to believe that they were waiting to be alone with me for recieve their "fine"...also earlier the cop asked me how much and i showed him what I have wich was 7k baht and he didnt react to that wich made me hope that theyre just trying to get more...

I was also going with my girlfriend...they didnt realized the police had stopped me and she left her phone in the room wich made it impossible to get her to come and make things easier...that they confirmed to try to call her up to my request made me hope too...

so eventually everyones out and im alone with the boss...he says soemthing like " we call polce now " " u go jail " " u have big problem " " big problem in thailand " ...something around those lines...I say..." can you help me ?" he replies " help you? " I say " yes " he asks " can you pay? " wowowowow thats like a 1 outer for 10 stacks.. I say " yes " He ask " how much " I show how much I got wich was around 7k...he ask "20K?" I confirm but i have to go to atm at the mrt...so he lets me go ..I come back and give it to him under table...took me like 30 minutes after that to get back into a normal mode...that was psycholigical torture makmaak...since then ive sworn to never touch drugs again...
