i plan on going to thailand sometime this sept, i have a few questions (probably already answered but w/e). basically im not sure how long i want to stay, could be anywhere from 1-4 months, depending on a lot.

1. is it possible to book a flight online without a credit card?

2. any advice on finding the cheapest flights possible? keeping in mind i live in the middle of nowhere (north dakota), i don't think it would be worthwhile to drive/fly west and book a flight on one of the cheaper chinese airlines from LA/SF or wherever, but i'm not sure. so far i've done some preliminary searching on kayak.com, but since i'm not even sure how long i'll be there, i dont know if i'd be better off looking for a 6-month return date and just bumping it up whenever i decide to return or just going with a one-way ticket for now.

3. when does the "tourist" season start and how much does that effect prices (both for plane tickets and in Thailand itself)?

4. say i arrived in bangkok or one of the beaches tomorrow. assuming i dont speak a word of thai, how long would it take me to find a decent place to rent without getting ripped off?

5. do they let you rent apts/houses for 1-2 months at a time or do you have to sign for 6 mo+ or something?

3. november-february, hotels can be 2-3x more expensive than low season. plane tickets roughly 50-70% more.

4. if you stay at a hotel for the first few nights and go look for a place it won't take long if you do some research beforehand. And every thai knows enough english about their own profession so you'll be ok. i'm sure you'll have a nice thai girl as translator pretty soon anyway

5. sure you can. rent per month is obviously more if you only rent to 2 months than 6+ months but you can do it.
