We had a few recently in Phuket one time I was forced to go Bangla as it was the only place with power and far to hot in my pad. Turned put to be a good night as most people staying Patong did the same.

Maybe look into getting a backup generator if you want to stay there. We had one in a house I stayed in before not sure how much they cost but got to be loads cheaper than $600

could buy a uninterruptable power supply (UPS). may set you back $30-100. basically just a battery pack on an extension cord. will kick in and give you a 15-30mins, more with a good one. Tesco or the hardware store across and up the road a bit might have them. good for a blip, not much good if power stays off.

I used a laptop + aircard so I never had problems.

might be able to get a generator for $250-300. of course you could buy a cheap laptop for that and take it home with you.

I use a UPS and a 3g dongle for poker so power cuts don't affect me. As long as I stop opening STTs when the power goes off, the UPS will last long enough to finish them. Different story for MTTs though, which is why I'm still grinding STTs after all these years. Obviously if you are grinding on twin 30 inch monitors you are going to need a pretty serious UPS, or get a generator as someone suggested (they start at about 10k baht).

i guess best option would be cheapo laptop plus 3G internet...cause with power outs the wireless internet is gone as well...is it possible to get 3g as back up so you don't have to use it?? like a minutes type deal...or does it run out after a certain amount of time whether you use it or not...obviously I am very clueless when it comes to hooking up 3g on laptop...

200mb 3g plan is 129 baht a month from truemov. that will last you 20 hours playing one site so its plenty for an outage or two. if you have a smartphone you can use that otherwise you need a aircard for 1200 or so.

if using ups, turn off one monitor when it kicks in, dim the other one, and throttle back your computer (control panel / hardware and sound / power options / advanced setting --> processor power management). may have to test with tables open to see what you can get away with but assuming you have a new computer that is surely way faster than my laptop, im guessing you could trim it back below 50% no prob.

went for a routine trip to MBK to get my self a new phone as my last one broke. All phones were way overpriced compared back to the UK, so ill wait till 6 weeks and get one back home.

I had the gf stay over for the weekend, for the first time since god knows when, such a train wreck, again, never again. Once, not even. So she is in MBK looking for her 3rd new phone cover.

I just want a new cover she said.....It wont take long, she said. Anyway after going to 10 shops all of which sell identical phone covers, she got it down to the final 2, and asked for my opinion on which color was better. Here was were I made the mis click, and said "up 2 u". I honestly couldn't give a single **** what color she picked, but realized the error of my answer as soon as the words come out my mouth.

She then went and had a 15 minute conversation with the thai shop keeper in thai, talking about god knows what, every few minutes both staring at me, then laughing. Then back to examining the phone covers.

Tip for you guys next time, when they ask for your opinion on anything that requires some choice. First ask them which one they like more, then agree with what they have picked.

I use the 599 b/month plan from Truemove, gives 2gb of 3g data and unlimited access to Truewifi.

I find truewifi is faster than my apartment's WiFi generally, and the 3g is very reliable for poker. I only use the 3g when I'm playing poker, just use regular WiFi the rest of the time. These plans are all prepaid and expire after 1 month whether you use the data allowance or not.

cold. pretty easy to put in serious hours on the comp though

well after I got in from football i just went into the shower, and called her in. She showered me and even dried me.
