once you realize this thread is nothing but 1 and 0s, and is not even a real entity or something you can touch, the better. There is a whole life outside with real people, birds, flowers and experiences which you the sense can actually feel.

I know I have more posts then anyone else so its ironic that im telling people there is a life outside this thread or internet. But ive managed to grasp that on the whole scheme of things and life, this thread is pretty much the bottom of the barrel on the things of real importance to me and life. Seems its raked a bit too high for others, who in a cycle of this thread decide to moan once every so often.

"such a horrible thread they said, I can only click it 250 times a day, pffft"

Thanks for the trip planning so far guys.

Here's my rough itinerary - let me know if there's any way I should improve it:

1. Arrive in Bangkok May 1st. Stay 4 days or so through the weekend for a few temples, night life, muay thai fights, etc.

2. Leave sunday for Chiang Mai and Chiang Ri. Spend about a week there in the old town area, see some temples, maybe do the elephant conservatory thing.

3. From CM, fly down to Phuket/Krabi (Railay)/Phi-Phi. Main question here: A friend said that Phuket is mostly touristy, but Railay is the prettiest. Are there flights right to Krabi? I'm not sure what the logistics are of getting around in that area. Do I just need to fly to Phuket and then take boats between places?

4. After about a week, head to Ko Samui and then Ko Pha Ngan for the full moon party on May 25th. Question: What kind of transportation is available to cross the peninsula from west to east down there and get to the other islands? I'm guessing there's a bus route that's best? Also, I'm not sure if I'll have time for all 3 islands (Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, and Ko Tao), so any commentary on which is best would be nice.

5. From there, I'll be at the end of my 30 day tourist visa and need to head out. I'm undecided between Cambodia (Siam Reap) or Vietnam or something. Either way, i'm still trying to figure out if it makes more sense to return to bangkok for the international flight somehow, or just find an international flight out of the Ko Samui area)

Some misc questions:

1. For bangkok, it seems like a lot of backpackers pick khao san road, but it seems to be pretty far from the subway. From research, it appears that Sukhumvit and Silom are the next most recommended places for convenience. However, it looks like there aren't many hostels in those areas. Which would you stay in? The general plan is just to visit the 3 main temples, do a muay thai fight, some nightlife, and maybe 1 or 2 other small things. (about 3.5 days in Bangkok)

2. Any scuba divers around here? I'm thinking about getting certified while on this trip. It sounds like the islands on the west side are prettier, but the weather will be better on the gulf side in May. Not sure how pricey/long it would take to get certified or if it even makes sense on this trip.

Anyway, thanks for all the info so far. I'm pretty excited as the trip starts on Monday.

so for those thinking of settling down in thailand, seems like issan is a great place as long as you don't mind being around adults with the common sense of 7 year olds in a western country

Pretty sure PE couldn't last a week there lol

stay at "hi sukhumvit hostel" its good and clean, great location, 50meters from Thong lo BTS. You are no more then 10mintues away from anything. Temples are about a 25-35mintue cab ride, but you can see them all in one day. Im too sleep deprived give you a reason why KSR sucks, so I wont, but dont go there and heed my advice about the hostel in soi 38. I have stayed there twice, its not a party hostel, so its not full of swaggots which is a big + for me

I think I would spend more time in BKK then CM, unless you are big on landscapes, animals and stuff then fine. I think the "old town" can be done in a few days tops. But if you plan on doing other stuff like elephants and chit, yeah you will need more then a few days.

As for SR or Vietnam, SR has absolutely nothing to see but angkor wat, I would go to Vietnam.

+2, some misguided posters ITT, wrongly putting us in boxes we dont deserve to be in.

I went used these guys for a total cost of 2,100 baht. They also renewed my 2nd Tourist visa.

http://www.jackgolf.com/en/visa_run/

although they have changed name and now are actually called "bangkok buddy" and have there own website.

had no problems took 8 hours in total, including some play time at a casino. Full review without link on here will be posted on my blog tomorrow if you want full details and pics of van/casino etc.

I believe this is the cheapest in and out visa run that you would not do on your own from Bangkok to Poipet. Good service, with no messing about.

It's generally because huygenic standards are not up to par. People actually still get tubercolosis in this country as well as rats the size of cats running around pissing and ****ting everywhere. You really don't want to catch Hanta virus. Go read about it and you'll be happy with the straws.

A lot of Asian countries do it. I'm a fan. Less work. Less lifting. You don't get a bigass soda can blocking your view when you take a drink, as if drinking from a trough like a pig. I'm secure in my masculinity.

I need real internet bros. Apparantly there is no internet landline to my condo. I use up a 7GB 3G connection in a week and that is the most on offer on AIS. Does anyone know of a real unlimited solution or at least something workable like 20-30GB?

There was a giant rat running over my foot the other day. I swear it was the size of a small cat. You can see them come out nibbling at the garbage at night. They are disgusting creatures and they WILL eat you if they get the chance.

Lots of bus routes...they'll prob just try to sell you a ticket str8 from krabi to koh samui (the bus will hop on the ferry). If not, once you get to Surat Thani there are lots of cheap ferries (150baht) and more expensive speed boat routes (not sure price). But getting to the islands from mainland is pretty easy. I would say ko tao is well worth it.
