if thailand doesnt have a tipping culture then why are their tip boxes set up at the checkout aisles at foodmart? heck even in vegas which is about the most ridiculous place for tipping (you get attitude if you dont tip for a hot n ready pizza at lil ceasers or for your 6 inch at subway) i never saw a tip box at a grocery store

Extending tourist visa will give you 30 days.
Extending the visa excempt entry stamp will only give you 7 days.
Never heard of a 15 days extension.

Thailand doesnt have a tipping culture. The tourist areas in Thailand have learned that tourists dont mind tipping (and many dont want to carry around coins).

K2 in Pattaya you can get 3 month extension for 11k.

I will never do a songkran in Pattaya again, luckily songkran is a different dates in different parts Thailand, so it is easy to avoid. I just go bkk on the 17 for 3 nights.

the only places that will have it are where westerners eat. Franchises have a factory layout, for example macdonlds always have a change box by the tills you can put money in, which "apparently" goes to children in need or something. Maybe its the same for foodmart

inb4 some un cultured amaercain whos ignorant to all cultures but his own, will say how we should all tip

I have only been there 4 days but it seems like a horrible idea. Does it even have a choice of restaurants to go to, or any kind of night life that doesn't involve a bunch tossers in singha vest and flip flops

regarding extensions of visas its:

if yo get a visa on arrival AKA Tourist Visa Exemption 7 days = 1,900baht

Tourist vista you will get an extra 30days = 1,900baht

K2 try five star visa in soi 13/1 or 13/2 they should be able to help you.

I agree pooter, songkran is ridiculous in pattaya. No way i am staying here a second time for that madness.

Because Americans tip wherever they go, regardless of the customs of that country, so local people have learned to put out boxes.

I don't think it's tipping but for charity for schools and hospitals.

I understand, I think I would get bored fairly quickly, I see pai a bit like phuket or CM, its okay for a holiday 5days -2 weeks, but anything longer then that id be bored or annoyed. Thats just me though.

assuming your from either Oz,NZ,Canada/USA/UK/ Europe, I dont see why not.

If your going to a neighboring country in SEA, might be a bit of trouble.

I saw this on fb, very true, and from now on not a single thai word will be learned by me. I can order food, I can tell a taxi driver to turn left and right, pretty much count too. All you need

If you want to stay here long term, then you have no choice.

obv it depends what your looking for....ofcourse if your a standard sex tourist that doesnt get outa bangkok or patts for the 3 - 6 months then it doesnt really matter but as spiv says if you plan to stay in thailand or any country long term then it would be pretty shortsighted not to attempt to learn the language at some level.

if your keen on travelling around thailand then it's sooo much better/easier if you can speak basic thai.

*** even for picking up purposes you have got a million more options than mostly just freelancers that speak english if you want to have any kinda communication.

that guy on fb is obv a ***** clown although the thai mentality in day to day life can be ***** frustrating for foreigners from more advanced countries.

edit: thinking about it when i 1st stayed in thailand in CM and even in bkk i wish i had made more of an effort to learn the language

Agreed, but what I really meant is that an education visa is the only way someone under 50 can stay here long term unless they get married. Most countries are limited to 3 tourist visas in a year. You could get a business visa, but it's more expensive than ED Visa and you still have to do visa runs.

So, given that you are probably going to be paying for those classes whether you want them or not, you might as well go along and try and learn some stuff.

LOL this is far from true. you can live here forever without knowing a word of thai. all it does is limit the places you can go alone. speaking thai does save you both time and money, but is not necessary.

Unless you have a spare 10mil baht, then you can get an 'I' visa.

@K2 i was not saying it was cheap, just letting you know the longest visa you can get and its price without having to do a visa run. It is actually cheaper than doing visa runs every month and saves 6 pages of your passport.
