I have read that now in 2013 you need a business or tourist visa to open up a bank account. So when I arrive next week does this mean that I will not be able to open up a bank..and therefore not be able to play on stars?

me and a few other people have had the same problem this month. I was told the start of this year they have put new laws in place to stop farang getting bank accounts without the correct paper work (cant confirm hearsay at this point).

Anyway I went with a thai to the bank on soi 15, the one that lets you open bank accounts. They told me without a work permit or a letter from my embassy of some sort I could not open an account.

This is only the 6th time i said this in the past 10-20 pages.

despite danols posting a warning the day before I had to go for my extension, I still showed up at 10:30 (despite being up well before 8am). Rode all the way down there and they wouldn't even give me a ticket for the line ("full already"). I was told by somebody else living here that as long as you got your ticket by 10:30 you should get in after the lunch break, but before closing........CM immigration office just very busy this week I think.

On a related note, anybody doing an extension around this time might also be planning a visa run for week of April 15. I almost completely overlooked the fact that it's the Songkran festival that week. Sure enough the Thai Embassy is closed on the 8th and 13-15th. I'd also bet just travelling to the border around this time is going to be brutal.
Good news is my first Songkran will be in CM, where it's supposed to be the best
Few shots from the hill tribe village near CM.

I am def gonna leave Thailand for Songkran this year and prolly go to Macao. A full week of that squirting is just too much... would be fun if it was a night or two. At least in Chiang Mai people seem to stop after sunset so you can go out and proceed with your life.

@ ebbfs, seems CM is still backwards, try living in a real city were people queue up and tickets are given and processed in a timely manner.

I'm doing this as well this year, and going to Macao as well. PM if you wanna hook up there and go out or something.

I've had enough of Songkran, almost crashed when some idiot thought it would be great idea to surprise me with a full bucket of water in my chest while I was halfway through a corner on my motorbike. Drove off the road but luckily was some grass and not something I could hit.

They should rename Songkran to "National drunk driving, general stupidity and violence week".

tried paleo robbie out this week, 200 - 350 baht meals incl. delivery, more pricey than streetfood but little cheaper than chefsxp / foodbyphone and well made

had paleo pizza, spinach, lamb shank, chicken fajitas. would recommend for health nuts / grinders

inter-desting choices, not sure if the 1st and 3rd one you saw on my blog but

http://www.*************.com/p/hotels-in-bangkok.html

if you like to club n dont mind white people (vomits in mouth) all that much, I think le fenix would be the choice, as you do get a free entry to bed supper club and Q bar, which although not great clubs are a few seconds away from your doorstep. Climax and bash also very close

Muse is more of a boutique hotel, I cant help but think every time you leave the hotel you will be catching the BTS/taxi somewhere. While with Le feix, alot of touristy stuff is close by
