i watched it quite fast but i learned that our style of not winning without showdown really works well against aggro players... his stack off with his a4o vs your a9o is lolable.

rent a motorbike or two. the island is small, take the MB's and go exploring, find some cool beaches etc. bans is probably the best dive school. if a random thai person approaches you trying to sell you something, don't **** buy it, go find it on your own (taxi, hotel, dive school etc). and ya, bring books

You can have a Lao address for betfair, I assume it would work for Thailand.

Should be in Thailand in first few weeks of July with a friend. Will be stopping by a few other places in SE Asia first. Would be keen to catchup with a few people and do some interesting stuff if people are up for it. I play 510/1020 and he plays 2550+, so happy to exchange a few poker lessons if youre willing to show us around.

Im keen to do stuff like go snorkelling, scuba diving, rockclimbing, and anything else thats fun really. Not particuarly keen on going to brothels, etc. but partying and stuff obviously is on the cards. Im also keen to go up north and see the country (chang mai etc).

Chartering a boat and going out to some random islands and stuff would be cool.

Any of you guys done any really amazing stuff that stands out that you could suggest?

Also trying to workout if we should fly into Bangkok and how long to spend where, before heading to other areas of Thailand.

you can book travel more or less the day of so no need to plan out how long you're staying in each place imo. just get there, see how you like it, and stay as long as you please. bangkok isn't my favorite place in thailand by any means, but definitely check it out for a few days, catch a muay thai fight or something and it's obviously great for partying.

also, if i may suggest something about chiang mai. i loved trekking, and i was really happy that i found a good place (pooh's eco-trekking near the foot of ratchpakinai road, by chiang mai rock climbing, though i'm sure there are others). you pay more, but you'll be in a smaller group, you go to villages that aren't always filled with tourists, the guides are much much much better, etc. etc.

Koh Tao, the Similans and up into Burma are some amazing dives. Go on a liveaboard, even if you think you can't afford it. You can't afford to miss it.

Snorkeling can be good to excellent, depending on where you go. I know of some great places around Phuket, but Koh Adang and Lipe are also AMAZING for just putting on a mask and going out (but can be harder to get to). Don't waste your time on snorkel trips to Phi Phi. Go if you're there, but the boat trips specifically for it (you'll see ads for them all over, the 10 in 1 daytrips; you know, snorkel, lunch, ride elephant, see monkey show etc etc, rush rush rush) are horrible and terrible, as you probably already expect.

If you have time, I'd really recommend the Perhentians in NE Malaysia. The snorkeling was top notch there. Sharks, turtles, eels, etc etc, all right off the beach. Easy to get there from south Thailand, if you don't mind bomby railway stations...

As far as cooking schools, all the hotels and some restaurants offer them. However, Chotechitr (also spelled Chote Chitr) which is in the Banglamphu area and is Bangkok's new culinary superstar thanks to a review in the NYTimes, does cooking classes. The woman who runs it brings small groups of people on market excursions and then teaches some of her dishes once a week.

Sadly, the website is down (possibly due to so much traffic) so I can't provide any more info. However, there is a PHENOMENAL food blog run by a Bangkok expat: RealThai. He lists info on how to get there here http://austinbushphotography.com/200...non-tanao.html

I also think the owner speaks English, so it may be worth calling to ask. That would be my recommendation instead of spending a **** load on how to make fried rice and spring rolls at the Oriental or something. I think that cooking classes in Chiang Mai are pretty good, if you look around and happen to be up there.

Also, the Blue Elephant, it may be worth mentioning that it is a chain of restaurants, cooking schools and supermarket ready sauces etc that started out of London, not Bangkok. In case you're into authenticity. Not sure how the food is, I never ate there. But their business model seems to be working.
Just found this from a previous post, have any of you guys done this stuff recently?

lol brothels. they call them go go bars here sir and if you don't at least visit one by the time you leave you've missed out. sex isn't required and 90% of people who go in do not sex anything up.

anyway as for most amazing things to do in thailand top two for me would be taking a several day open water scuba diving course on koh tao and number 2 visiting maya bay on koh phi phi. thats where they filmed 'the beach' with leo dicaprio and one of the most beautiful places on earth.

i've never been but i hear some amazing things about krabi (railey beach and ao non), supposed to be some excellent rock climbing there and sounds like that area would be your cuppa tea.

i'd also reccommend visit the big temple above chiang mai, i think its called something like doy sutep.
