10 times 80 = almost 1500$

i can do maths. $80 a night is the low end of 4 stars. bangkok being so inexpensive you can get nice 5-star rooms for around $150 a night.

at the very least $1500 leaves him with $700 to spend over two weeks. that's about three days spending money if he goes to the bars each night.

please keep that interesting bitching going, about some other random dudes potential hotel expenses, cant wait to see who wins..

some Chiang Mai observations after a few days on the ground
* smog not too bad yet but still noticeable
* not been out drinking/clubbing but very few random hot chicks about
* renting a bike is a pia, most want to keep your passport, others 10k minimum deposit the others where out of bikes or had pretty crappy ones, maybe i was just unfortunate but i got frustrated. that being sad i wouldn't attempt living here for over a week without one.
* very good value for money for everyday expenses, probably 50% to bkk mid sukhumvit
* average english level is significantly lower than bkk and you probably need some thai to enjoy yourself here in the long term
* **** those backpackers are annoying. need to make an effort to stay out of their way

dream hotel for the cheapest room (there is a single size bed option that's slightly cheaper) from 20-27 march is 17,955. dream hotel is about the bottom of the barrel in terms of 4 stars.

how much for a dish of food from a street cart on average?
how much for a tuk tuk/taxi/mostsai for a distance of 1-3km?
how much for a day pass at a gym?
how much for a tennis/badminton court for the hour?
how much for one person dinner in a typical western style restaurant (nothing fancy)?
how much for laundry by the kg?

oh and got any pics, everyone loves pics.

crazy world in that we live. A guy is dying but nobody will take him to a good hospital to get him treatment as he dont have the £££. We value money over life as a society, just shows what a sick bunch of people humans really are. And they call animals savages.

Id be interested in why the insurance company didn't pay out, sometimes they want full details before paying out. I know a few people who have been injured in BKK and got a payout.

Dream hotel is fine, but like all hotels in the tropics they quickly fade. A superior room is a good deal considering if the excellent breakfast is included. Just don't get a smoking room.

Let me give you a tip on how to save on hotels in Thailand. Go to Wotif.com and search for hotels on your dates. Look for the 'Wot Hotel mystery deals'. These are hotels you book without knowing what you get besides the star rating. It's used by hotels to fill rooms without seeming cheap and empty to the general public.

So for example, I choose the 5 star hotel with the price of 2707 baht and I find the description of the hotel:

"Is ideally located in the heart of busting shopping malls and street bazaars. Featuring spacious rooms and suites, sumptuos restaurants and excellent leisure facilities including the tranquil Breeze Spa."

I then copy this and Google this string.

The first result is from this site where I can read that others have identified it as being the Amari Watergate Hotel. At Agoda.com the current rate for the same date is 3300 baht and so I've saved 500 baht pr. night booking through Wotif and googling to find out what hotel is behind the 'mystery deal'.

It's by far the cheapest way to book 4 and 5 star hotels and some 3 stars.
