- yeah, phuket can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. tuk-tuks and taxis do exist, but they are mafia controlled and therefore very expensive (about the same price as a taxi in the west). You can rent a motorbike which makes transportation very cheap and very fun. Also, you can get cheap street food and eat at cheap thai restaurants just like in BKK. You can also eat at high class expensive restaurants just like BKK.

- there are nicer beaches in thailand, but phuket (or maybe samui) offers the best mix of beaches + nightlife. They are also the most developed islands which means more people but also more western comforts.

- you can find cheap housing in phuket. guesthouses run about the same as bangkok and the rest of thailand. if you live a few km from a beach, you can find a nice, cheap house in a good neighbourhood (like pumpui's place). if you live in a villa overlooking the ocean in a gated community with 24 hr security, swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness facility, restaurant, maid service, etc, it can get pricey.

I guess my point is that if you want to live in a fun cheap exotic city with great nightlife, go to BKK. If you want good nightlife, beaches and sun, and modern comforts, go to Phuket or Samui. If you want to go to secluded tropical island just to relax, there are plenty all over thailand. Either way, thailand ****ing rules and has something for everyone. <3

fwiw, our setup (location, housing, crew of friends) is what really makes Phuket paradise, in addition to all the same kinds of things they have in BKK.
No grudge match but if you have a fair bit of money and want to party your ass off in style Bangkok is simply the best.

Especially since it's the best "base location" right in the middle of the country 2h of plane max from anything.

I guess your setup is great we had a great setup in the 'cookie's mansion" and around too in Bangkok definitely enhance the experience.

"The same kind of things they have in bkk" that's where I kindly disagree. BKK has so much more stuff than Phuket. 10 millions+ people live here it's simply impossible to compare with a seaside middle sized town.

Anyway thailand is great wherever you are, but BKK is for me and for a lot of people that live or have lived there the number one top of world awesomest city ever.

The funny thing is a lot of people hate it the first few days ( expats not holiday ) then they fall in love.

I would be interested in seeing photos of BK properties if anyone ever posted them. Looking at that siamrental place and it seems reasonably cheap to like in BK,

Yo, the numbers I gave you should work? Make sure you put 0066 infront for the thai international code.

Yeh just grab a taxi from outside the airport, there will be loads around. Make sure you pay 600-700 baht and no more. it should take you around 45-60 mins to get to out villa's

I'll be in Thailand for 5-6 weeks June 12th, just wondering about the discussion of tailors and custom made suits earlier in the thread.

Did anyone go to any of the recommended tailors? Good, bad? Any new recommendations? Let me know, I'm looking to buy 2-3 italian style tailored suits, probably cashmere/cotton with a silk lining. If I can get them for 2-300$ I'll be very happy.

its a bunch of indians expats doing them.. so if u have no knowledge about making a suit, it'll look like any piece of **** u can get at sears or walmart(which they prob make in india)

if u know the cuts u want then ull get something baller.

yo guys, anyone got a good suggestion for a decent hotel in Bangkok that's a reasonable price? i'm paying for me and two of my friends for 4 nights from tomorrow and was too lazy to book anything in advance. I'm also feeling pretty busto so I don't want anything too expensive. just in an area close to the skytrain (MRT i think?), so we can get around and also near a good spot for partying.

any help would be great cheers
