dude this isnt a thai dilemma . she is just bat**** crazy. i dated a viet girl that would explode at any moment. one day i buy her dinner, she doesnt finish her meal and gets a takeout box. 18yo homeless kid asks for the food on our way home. extrapolating based on local population, I think isaan is void of any females aged 18-35

there's a mini mountain 1,258m called phukradeung, takes all day to hike up, stopping a bunch of times at issan style restaurants and cliff faces they have along the way. then people camp on the top plateau, can hire tents, sleeping bags etc. good atmosphere with people drinking and singing, lots of girls. near-zero westerners so everyone wants to talk to you. I enjoyed it a lot

Well that you will only get you to Korat as far as Isaan goes. If you are set on driving that's your only option within 3 hours.

It's possible to fly from BKK to Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and a few other cities in Isaan though.

Udon is an okish city to hang out for a few days. I'm told there is lots to do in the countryside up that way national parks and stuff but not done any of it myself.

But, the whole point is that I want to DRIVE somewhere I have not been before. I did not say that before though.

Check out Korat then. It's a decent sized city in its own right, with many provincial areas around it.
