I live in Maha Sarakham with my GF, 40 miles from Khon Kaen. Only been back 2 weeks and my visa exemption runs out on 25th Nov so I won't be around for a few days in around 2 weeks.Unless you're heading to Vientiane as well??
I'm a Brit as well, so no strange North American humour from me, if it's wearing a bit thin for you now!.

I do a pretty good job of isolating myself from 99% of the bkk expat community by commenting on this thread, and being a total dbag most times when i go out (i blame the drink). so the American humor not a chance to wear thin on me yet.

only going KK then coming back to bkk, want to check it out, do some recon, confirm/deny if its busto and advise people ITT if they should go there.

Only if you admit. That you didn't know the difference between a VOA and a visa exemption. and they are in fact not the same same but different.

Only reason to live in Chiang Mai is to be as far away from PeoplesElbow as possible while still being in Thailand. Can't see any other reason to live there

considering chiang mai as a good spot to live but need to now how easy it is to get these visas.
Hey Man...I have looked in several forums and the common answer is :

You can enter Thailand as many times as you want on visa exempt (30 days freebie stamp) BUT the total duration of stay on these stamps cannot be more then 90 days in a 6 months period, counted from the first date of entry.

Ofc it depend where you are from etc .... but from Europe and US I believe it would be fine...

Also asked somebody else from another forum and get this answer :

I had no issues at all. I've been in and out of Thailand maybe 7 times now in about a 6 month period. Sometimes I go back within the 30 days of a previous stamp, but it doesn't matter because as soon as you leave your "entry" stamp is given an "exit" stamp, so when you re-enter you get a new "entry" stamp regardless of whether it's in the same period.

Hope it will help.

Im in Chiang Mai and need to get more days. I wanna get a 90 day visa (60+30 or whatever it is). Whats the cheapest way to do this? Also would be good if I dont have to take a 12H bus ride which might result in death

These are old rules, and not in effect anymore. The current rules doesnt hold a maximum number of times, number of days within a given timeframe etc.
However, going back and forth many times may get you an immigration officer giving you a hard time, either because he doesnt know the rules, or he decide to make up his own. Usually you will be warned before leaving Thailand though, that next time you will need a proper visa or whatever.

thx for the answers.
so the best way is just to fly in thailand with no visa (im from france) and get the 30 days visa exempt and then border runs right?
I´ve read you have to have a return ticket when you fly in this way,is this true and how you get around this (i´m looking for long term stay there).

if you get a visa from were you live you and its in your passport you wont need a return flight out.

if you get the VOA when you land sometimes they ask for a return flight. go on expeida and pick a flight, fill everything out, prnt screen then dont buy it. its what I used to do

Thailand is very cheap, it is also easy to spend a shiit load of money here depending on what kind of life style you want to have.

that wouldn't be cheap. I Can only speak for bkk, but although most things are cheap, housing/apartment costs are way too high imo, assuming you want to live close to all the main places.
