Yeah Phukett is the most expensive part of Thailand but it will seem dirt cheap to an Australian. I stayed there 2 months this year I really like it there. I never make food in Thailand eat out the whole way. I found a hotel with fairly solid internet allthough defo more stable at different times of day. Budget is hard to say as you are paying for 2 but shouldnt pay more than 15k for monthly rent and meals are between 40-250 depending what/where. I found nights out were fairly expensive its like 100-150 for spirit and mixer rent a moped for 3-4k all in Thai Baht by the way so maybe you can guesstimate from this

biggest differences between bkk and phuket are that bkk has awesome public transportation and better nightlife while both suck in phuket.

for accomodation i think you get more for your money in phuket judging by what i know about phuket and how my friends live in bkk

food and booze around the same. bkk will have more choices, especially high-end stuff.

sports in phuket: football 800b/hour for a fake grass pitch. beachvolleyball at private club 200b/hr (+lights if it's dark). basketball we got 2 places where we can play free. running on the beach while looking at hot russian chicks = free

so you mention 5 things and say 3 are the same with bkk and puke-ket, then say the other 2 things cost more in puke-ket.

I dont need to explain you just told us. But I will anyway, Puke-ket is the bigget tourist spot in Thailand, so there for chit is going to cost more then any other place as a blanket statement

I said that sports can be more expensive but having beaches 10 minutes from home where u can swim, surfing, kite etc for free so it is the same.
and as lessu wrote in phuket u can get nice house with pool cheaper than bkk

so looks like only taxi is more expensive but if u find good cheap house phuket can be cheaper.

so show me the big diffrences in prices like u wrote before.

10 mintue taxi in bangkok 55bhat, 10 mintue taxi in puke-ket 400 baht.

You cant just say there are beaches in phuket so it makes everything okay. Bangkok has some of the best thai boxing in the world. the standard is so far ahead of Phuket/CM or anywhere else, this dont means its okay for them to now charge X amount for something else as this makes up for it.

the food on whole is cheaper, markets, public transportation

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...t-Bangkok.html

its just a fact, dont take it personal.

i think it is simillar.
i dont think tesco has diffrent prices in phuket and bkk.
food street in phuket start from 30bth, in bkk i think simillar.
food in resteurant has to be simillar.

only 1 thing that is significantly expensive in phuket is transport.
but most people have own vehicle.

so dont tell around that bkk is cheaper than phuket if you are clueless.

imo ud spend the same amount of money in bkk and phuket.

you taking it too personal, its a fact puke-ket is more expensive then bangkok no two ways about it. This is not to say BKK is better then PHK (although I think it is).

I live in bkk spending around £800/month~, going out 3x a week. I would not be able to that in phuket just because I would be getting raped so much by the transportation costs alone, unless I stayed close to bangla road, but then I would not get a 7k 40sq meter studio with pool there. One of the great advantages of bkk is the BTS system, you can live so far away, in the cheap areas, and pay only 30-40baht and be in Asoke-thong in 10-12mintues, try staying in rural phuket, then wanting to go to patong 3-5 times a week to meet girls, shopping, films clubbing, see how that works on a £800 budget

http://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-li...bangkok/phuket
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...4170149AAapij6

numerous places on the internet telling you this, and ive been to both places and I know which is cheaper. Im sure people who live in PHK would say the same also. Sure you can shop around in PHK and get stuff cheaper then the tourists do, but it still costs more on a whole.

hahhaa lol meet girls in patong
i understand that most girls u meet with are hookers but not everyone like it.
i live in phuket town. 3 minutes to cinema, bowling, big shopping mall, some small clubs, international hospital, tesco, markets. everything what i need.

Yeah if you have been there a while you gt to know all the cheap/best places but in general the prices in Phukett are geared towards tourists.

I dont know what the big argument is its just common knowledge and fact that this area is just ripping off tourists weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

yeah well phuket town is cool, to meet phuket town girls. Bangkok there so many differnt areas to meet chicks. whats the player pool like in phuket town, say 100k?? (being very generous)

Bangkok population 12mil. Meet them anywere for under 60baht. Phuket town means you stay in phuket town, with bangkok you got the option of so many other places, for very cheap.

So yeah public transport matter, alot. The closer you get the beaches in phuket the more the food costs, even street food, I can still get 40baht pad thai inside soi cowboy. I remember when I was on balga road, got a banana pancake, thinking it would be 20baht or w/e like i paid in BKK/CM, he said 40baht, i really choked on my own breath when i heard it.

you just come across as either a puke-ket fanboy, your saying stay in one area of puke-ket and never leave that area and it will be cheap, i guess your right on that one

Brilliant observation.

Everyone ignored PE's "Chiang Mai sucks" trolling and he stopped. Can we please try to do the same for Phuket?

were am i trolling about phuket being more expensive then bkk?. Just because you dont like the idea of "PE" (you cant dislike me you never met me, just the idea of this character or the illusion), no need to label me a troll. Ive given alot of info ITT.

The only thing that you can say is trolling is renaming Phuket to Puke-ket (which by the way I think is genius). Everything else I have said is mostly true, provided with links.

If you like island type of feel living then Samui is great, if not then you should probebly look elsewhere. Visa runs is either Singapore, Hongkong or Kula Lumpur if you want to fly directly and they are min. 400 euro round trip, or you can go with minivan for less but its a pain in the ass. About 15 hour total trip. I guess you could fly from Suratthani airport for cheaper but it takes probebly 3 hours just to get there from your home at Samui.

you are paying 50% more per unit of electricity in bkk, PE.

how are you not outraged? that's like 150 baht you'd save in phuket

also why are you talking about going to patong to meet girls? there are not enough in phuket town? esp the cheap kind you seem to prefer

^I was paying 8 in my last place :O, 6 now, I thhink the goverment rate is 4 but thats only if you live in a house. are condo rates in phuket the same as goverment? i only stayed in hostels while in phuket.

well patong is like the central point of phuket no? When I was there I met two girls both hot as phuck, both live in patong. But the point I was making for me no there is not enough girls in phuket town.

Im a full time TLL/TF/ grinder, and trust me id get bored in phuket town in like a week, I need a big fish player pool. it would only take a few days before im ****ing friends of friends on TF in Puke-ket town

Was easy to add on an extra month to my 60 day visa in Phukett btw I just went to Phukett town Imigration office and they stamped me no probs.

I had a friend who did the 16hour all in bus trip to Burma and back to Phukett just for an extra 14 days but not really sure why people dont just go to the office

RE: costs.

you can't just say blanket "phuket is more expensive", which is why Lessu broke it down. eating cheapest food in bkk and phuket are about the same price. eating higher to top end stuff, you get better value in bkk, with the exception of fresh seafood, which you get amazing value for in phuket.

finding budget rooms like PE is staying in, about the same value in phuket. want a baller condo or serviced apartment? bkk will probably be better for you. want a sweet house? phuket wins for value.

price isn't the reason to choose between bkk and phuket, though. you're either a beach guy or a city guy. bkk is one of the coolest cities in the world. phuket one of the most beautiful beach areas to live at in the world. if you want to do cost analysis, then compare places like samui, pattaya, hua hin, krabi... etc. that's where you start to get into the nitty price/beach/amenity valuations. but really, is someone going to choose bkk over phuket or vice versa because they'll spend 3k baht less a month in one or the other?

i won't make the blanket statement that phuket is better for sports lovers, but i think there is more community sports here than in CM or BKK. (maybe this isn't true any more?)

as we move into high season, our sports schedule is:
football 2-3 times a week, although 1 of those games is a league game that you need an invite for.
basketball 2-3 times a week
private club beach volleyball 2-3 times a week
spearfishing about once a week

various other sports activities, lots of gym grinders here, some guys do rock hopping, krabi is a short distance away for amazing rock climbing. ultimate frisbee happens occasionally. a little bit of tennis/badmitton/ping pong goes on, plus things like beach jogging/body boarding/surfing. snorkeling. we'll probably take a boat out as a group for snorkeling/cliff diving a few times this high season. there's a waterpark trip scheduled soon as well. tons of muay thai camps around. I don't know much about Muay Thai training

PE says the best MT is in BKK, and that might be true. I know that the people i know in the states who wanted to come to thailand to train, all thought phuket was the place to go train... and i know pros and teachers back home. maybe bkk just has the better fights to watch? I'm somewhat ignorant about all that.

and that's just stuff that people i know do. there's tons more stuff we don't do. scuba diving. squash. mountain biking, road biking. etc.

it's not expensive here. i go out a reasonable amount. eat out, etc. i probably spend about $2k a month including my bills, maybe a little more in high season when i'm doing more.. and i live in a pretty nice place (with roommates) but not baller by any means. i could leave even cheaper if i wanted to (and have before)

but if you're gonna go out drinking every night, and will sweat a $12 cab ride home so you'll drive a motorbike home hammered out of your skill.... phuket isn't for you. you'll probably die here.

If you are here on a tourist visa, you can get 30 days at immigration. If you are here on visa exempt, you only get 7 days, maybe that was the reason?

I live in a beachtown and have no problem finding 40b pad thai. Of course you wont find these prices, if eating at the beach, or other tourist spots, but there are plenty of places to buy cheap food (as the local Thais do).
