I travel a lot now, but I don't bring my desktop with me lol...i have a tablet for that...But I understand what you are saying...if I was only going for a few months I def would stick with laptop....
I was just giving you an example. You don't have to get an apple. The point is that the technology is out there now so you don't have to lug around a massive desktop tower. You can easily get a number of laptops that will support dual 30" if that's what you really need, some of them under $1200. However for what you'll end up spending shipping a desktop to South East Asia (or taking it as luggage) then having to move it around with you everywhere you go, you'll be on a freeroll (maybe even making some profit in the long run). That's what spiv was trying to tell you. First flight alone could end up costing you $300+.
You really plan to just land in BKK and not live anywhere else. What if you want to fly to Phuket and enjoy the beaches for 3 months or head north to Chiang Mai...ect ect. You're going to regret bringing that desktop.
I know what you're going through though I think. It's hard to get rid of stuff. You prob love your desktop com. It gets easier once you get going. Just 12 months ago I was in a fully packed 3 bedroom apartment in Montreal. King sized bedroom set, all the appliances (have to buy your own in Quebec), treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical, weight room with squat rack, fully set up living room with surround sound and wall mounted TV, ect ect. .....It's ALL gone now. Everything I'm keeping I can fit in my two suitcases. Now I'm truly ready to travel the world.
