I had something like that happen in pattaya... took a motorbike taxi and we agreed on 100 baht before hand, we arrive at destination, he says 200 baht. I was pissed so I did not budge, just said "no you say 100" and hand him the 100 baht... he didn't take it, and immediately jumped on the bike and floored it. I would rather have budged at the 200 than let him bolt off like that, I was really avoiding motorcycle taxis for the rest of my stay :O

actually had that happen in Phuket as well, but they said they would cut off my **** if I didn't give them 200, so I did that without any quarrel.

I've had heated discussions a few times in those types of spots, it was pretty clear it was going to kick off if I didn't pay up so I did, I really don't want to get into fights in that part of the world as I've seen what happens to people.

Actually it happened to me in Manila on my last trip, got a taxi from the bus station to my hotel, after a bit of debate with about 5 drivers managed to get one to agree to use the meter. Off we went and it was clear the meter was rigged as it was going up really fast.

Got to the hotel and the meter was showing about 350 or something, went to get some change from the hotels reception and when I came back like 2 mins later the price had gone to 400 lol. I said no way as I was already pissed off about the meter rigging and just handed him the 350, he said 'I will be waiting for you sir' with a knowing look on his face.............sigh, I just instashipped the extra 50 as I knew what was going to happen otherwise.

I just pay up now its really, really not worth it especially for the small amounts of money we are talking about.

This is why having your own transportation is so nice. BKK is OK, but everywhere else I would want a car. Motorbikes suck when it's raining or if you want to go somewhere further out on your own for a reason, not just as a fun ride.

And the bullsht wears on you.

I feel what you're saying as regards to small amounts of money....its petty change really...but being screwed over by some low life is a completely different story...that's the **** that would get me mad...*** the extra 50 baht....if I'm gonna argue over 50 baht I might as well start boiling water....

Don't get me wrong it does get me mad, its the principle rather than the money, you just gotta learn to pay and walk, its not easy to do that for us. I remember reading a story a while back about a guy that was killed over 20 Bhat, YES 20 ****ing Baht. When you hear **** like that it puts it into perspective.

A good one from a few years back. This guy we knew who was a regular in my buddies bar would buy some fruit each day as he left his apartment from some old girls stall at the end of his soi. Every day the price was 20B.

Once afternoon he buys the exact same thing, she says 40B.

Now rather than make a nice complaint, explaining that its 20B every day and if she does now change it to 40B he'll never buy from her again, he takes the aggressive line.

Starts shouting and calling her names she obv never understood, she screams back, this draws the attention of the sois motorcye boys. This guy then kicks one of the legs holding up her fruit stall and the thing collapses, fruit everywhere, old girl yelling and crying.

Cue the gang of motorcyes who proceed to beat the living **** out of him in broad daylight.

He turns up at the bar with a battered face, my buddy offers to take him hospital, he declines, a while later he passes out on the floor. So they take him to hospital where they put his head is some freezer thing to stop his brain from over swelling and to stop the, what would of otherwise been sever brain damage and very likely death.

Lucky he had insurance cus his bill went well over half a mil baht.

All for 20B, when he should have smiled, paid, and never used her again as his revenge for her over charging.

Funny you should mention fruit stalls, the story I was referring to involved 2 Thai guys I think on either Soi 14 or 15 off WS. They got into a heated argument over 20 Baht for something, started fighting, the guy who was losing ran to the fruit stall on that street grabbed the knife from him and stabbed the other guy to death, really sad over just 20 Baht, but life is cheap there.

The reason why most murders are solved within 48 hours is because it's mostly pretty stupid stuff. Lots of heated arguments over stupid stuff turn into murders in the USA as well. (It's also why serial murderers are so hard to catch)

On top of that, walking street and those sorts of places is where you find the lowest and the most desperate of them all. Socioeconomically, it's worse than a US ghetto.

Maybe, but you also get more dickhead drunks trying to play the big man in those places, so that causes a lot of problems with the locals. Tbh in these types of places I think the locals are amazingly tolerant at times, but when you cross the line with them you're in for it big time.

Of course the motortaxi/taxi guys will get aggressive if you try to cheat them, but if they are trying to cheat you then they will probably back down pretty quickly if you refuse. Probably just best to pay the extra but one cannot always be a pussy :P

That was what happened in the 20 baht story from VV, the other guy did not want to pay his gambling debt and they were both piss drunk (and friends).

If everyone grow a pair of balls, and picked the right spots and if tables conditions allowed, stick up for your self, shiyyyeet. If its night time and hes locked the taxi so you cant get out, or there a bunch of somchais around the corner yeah pay, but if your in the hotel and hes over charged you, id give him 350 and just say good night

Is there any website where I can find ads about renting houses/condos in Phuket directly from owners? Can be both thai and english.
I know phuketrenthouse.com has some but in most cases there are agencies's ads.

Mate, do as you wish, but there is some pretty solid advice from people on here who have been around the block in Asia. Your still pretty young and I know you think you know it all, believe me I thought I did when I was your age too.

Anyway, everything I have said is with good intent, but I'm not going to say anything further to you about this kind of stuff, maybe when you have been there a bit longer and seen a few guys get the fk kicked out of them you will have a rethink, but whatever, enjoy the rest of your stay there........

Went to Indian embassy today in Asoke on soi 25 to get a visa, simple, just fill in the online form from there website. Take it too the office with your passport. They will take pictures and photocopies there. cost 2.3k all in. should get my visa in 6working days.

agree i dont need my own thread, all im doing is posting reports of anything I do, so people can see what happens in bkk and partly because im an attention whore. I mean who wants to read **** about internet connections.

Least with my last story, people have posted alot of good info on how to act in these situations, and what happens if it goes wrong, i mean I could of saved someone from getting beating up in Thailand because of my post
