i have been there and was very happy with the work they did, others here have recommended them as well. they wont be the cheapest option but assume that is not what you are after.

unless you already made reservations with ktk i think you can forget about it til feb next year
Thanks. I thought I was getting there ahead of peak season enough that I could have a nice pick of places. There should be other options as good as ktk though correct? How inflated are the prices on that link you provided?

well ktk does have a in my view well deserved no1 spot on that list so as good value for money might be hard to find for monthly deals but it also depends on what you are after. some dont like the location of ktk for example. but im sure you will find a nice place if you choose pattaya. there is plenty around.
but im not sure its the best location if you are bringing a gf a long even if she is hooker 'friendly'. its pretty much in your face all the time which might not be what she is after for her thailand experience.
no idea about how much haggle room there is for the places that you would be interested in but i really dont think it is going to be that much from what they list on their websites for monthly deals. esp for nov/dec/jan. i could be wrong
one thing you should be aware of is that the quality of the inhouse wifi is going to vary a lot. a lot of it will be too unstable for serious grinders (like you seem to be)

I honestly wouldn't take your gf to Patts, its pretty full on there and I don't think she would enjoy it despite what she might tell you.

You can live away from the main nightlife, but I honestly think there are other places better for you.

gf is not joining me until the new year.

I was planning on buying a TrueMove ADSL stick and then getting some kind of main internet package for my condo. I don't necessarily need a serviced condo, my top priority is a place with security and a nice view where I have the option to set up my own modem/wireless internet package.

With the serviced apt's is it still possible to set up your own internet package or do you have to go with the wireless they offer? If so combined with ADSL stick should be fine?

Thanks

Hey guys

I'm planning a long trip to SE Asia(minimum 4 months, first 2 in Thailand) after the holidays.

I understand the process for getting my stars account re-opened.

But i'm not clear on how I will fund/withdraw once i'm established in Thailand.

Is trading my cash (USD or baht) for stars $$ with another person the only way I can fund my account?

I will have enough money budgeted, so withdrawing poker monies won't be crucial unless I want to extend my stay... but can someone please explain the best method be it bank/moneybookers for getting online monies withdrawn.

Draft beer in 95% of Pattaya gogo's is under 100B at all opening hours.

To live the cheap charlie life you should really have chosen pattaya imo.

You can balloon chase nearly 7 nights a week and its just cheaper all round in every case.

For those who dont know, balloon chasing is going to bars that are having a party for one reason or another, and in pattaya there will be at least two bars a night throwing a party, with free food, so you can your cheap water or one beer and fill up on the free food.

The bars put up balloons in the day time so you know the party will be on that night.

There used to be a balloon chaser FB page that listed where all the free parties/food were lol.

I dunno and just guessing obv...

just a question to be safe:
Playing onlinepoker out of thailand is no problem,
but just mb does not work together with thailand?
Could you deposit/cashout then via a thai-bank?

does anyone know if it is allowed to play from thailand on partypoker and ongame?
On stars it is, when I am correctly informed.
Why is it not allowed on for instance bodog (not that I wanna play there - just curious <-> thought that thailand is easy but onlinepoker and there`s no stress there...)

Is pattaya rly so cheap?
I have already heard a lot that it is significantly more expensive then for isntance chiang mai, krabbi, etc... - what makes somewhat sense cause it is mainly a tourist stronghold and those places should be in general lil more expensive, I`d guess...

Depends exactly what your talking about, but broadly speaking I'd say its about the same price as CM from a tourist perspective. But deffo cheaper than Bkk and Phuket.

The 'good' parts of Pattaya can easily be more expensive than central parts of BKK like lower Sukhumvit. Everything is tourist oriented and very overpriced.

BUT...

In Pattaya you can live 10 minutes away from the center and your costs start to plummet. Once you get on the other side of Sukhumvit you will start seeing rice patties and it will be dirt cheap - but you are still just 15 minutes away from the center of action.

In Bangkok, you can't really do that. It's too huge. If you look for cheaper rentals they are pretty damn far away. And it seems like every year, the gridlock rush-hours get wider and wider. In BKK, even if you move to a cheaper area, it will take you quite a bit of time to get anywhere. (and in cheaper areas, places next to BTS are at at a big premium too. If you take lots of cabs, you will have a lot of drivers refuse to take you during ever expanding rush hours or they will want to charge you substantially more.)

To move further away in BKK is a pain. To move further away in Pattaya, you don't even feel the difference.

***

My first choice would be BKK because you have everything at your finger tips in BKK. If you want to be cheap, you can be cheap in BKK. (just move further out) If you want to spurge, you can splurge.

But my second choice would probably be Jomtien (right next to Pattaya.) You can get a pretty cheap ocean view rental on the upper sois in Jomtien, and there are lots of Ethnic foods available. I love Thai food, but I also like the idea of being able to try Armenian and Belgian restaurants or whatever if I feel like it. (and unlike CM expat places, the food is actually good in Jomtien/Pattaya. Expat food in CM - in general - is mediocre. )

The problem for many people will be that Pattaya/Jomtien are pretty busto. Yes, you have 1000 bars, but they're all hole-in-the-wall bars cooled by air fans, with some cheap 40yo hookers, and 60B draft beers. Same with everything else. I remember one time I tried to find a legit massage place that had a nice atmosphere inside and didn't look like a run down dump. It took quite a lot of driving around to find something that didn't look like a dump.

I guess that is good as it helps you resist temptation to spend more money, but it kinda sucks as everything is the same experience everywhere. In BKK, you have variety for all budgets.

Jomtien/Pattaya would be good for people that are more outdoorsy as you can pursue those sorts of hobbies easier here. You can get into cycling, mountain biking, water activities, golf, etc. Heck, you can get your Private Pilot's License in Pattaya. Doing all of that stuff from within central BKK would be a PIA.

if you have a Thai address on your Stars account, you cant deposit/cashout via MB, no matter what. Neteller works fine, though.

Stars offer wiretransfer to Thaibanks, but I have no experience with it.

On other sites you can deposit via a VPN and cashout without any issues, even with Thaiaddress on the poker accounts.

Dont know anything about Bodog, though.

Good post about Pattaya DC.

I live in Samui which is also pretty cheap, but it's a lot more annoyingly located than Pattaya which is only just over an hour from Bangkok. Doing visa runs from Samui is probably the worst thing about living here, since the nearest land border is 8 hours away and the cheapest flight is 7,000 baht return.

But prices here otherwise (outside of Chaweng at least) are closer to Pattaya than they are to Phuket or BKK.
