ok so i believe next to this, the biggest travel-type thread is the one about Buenos Aires, Argentina. has anyone been to both (or at least know a lot about both)? i know they dont really have much to do with each other but im curious how living costs compare (i imagine Thailand is a little cheaper but about how much difference?). reading through both threads the inexpensive cost of living seems to be an attraction for both places.

WTF? Nana shutting down at 1AM?

Spicy was decent but didnt pick up until 130AM and was friken PANG!

Off to Laos.

I reccomend the VIP bus to Nong Khai.

Me and the gf got Mo CHit terminal at 130PM and took the 1st available bus up (a 2nd class bus to Nong Khai for 375baht) because she didnt want to wait around until 7pm for the VIP overnighter.

Holy chit! DO NOT take the 2nd class bus!

The 2nd class cheapo bus stopped about 47 thousand times, the seats were cramped and barely reclined, the bus was baking hot inside WITH the AC on and we reached Udon Thani the bus steward packed us off into the back of a pickup truck to finish the journey to Nong Khai with an old lovestricken Thai dude and a mao young Thai dude who for an hour was trying to convince my Tirak that she should abandon her farang for his poor, angry arse. She spurned him quite nicely without me ever having to say a word. On an amusing note; funny to watch a darkskinned Issan dude turn bright red when we got out of the truck and I spoke to him in perfect Thai, "Thank you very much for the compliments to my girlfriend, but as you can see she is quite happy with me. Best of luck in finding your own lady."
lol Ron nice work.

when are you back?

Bill I looked around quite a bit in BKK and Phuket and there pretty expensive. I'm just going to wait till I head to Hongkong, hopefully they will be alot cheaper there.

Bangkok is a mess ATM when it comes to closing times.

The pang mak mak part, is everything much cheaper at Phuket? Standard drinks price? Standard bottle? And Spicey will always be the crappy overpriced farang place that pays the police enough to stay open most of the time...

are all you young guys in phuket finding people to hang out with?

i'm in chiang mai right now and it seems like there are five groups of people:
1. old white guys either with or looking for thai women
2. young couples honeymooning
3. retired couples vacationing
4. grungy backpackers with long ass hair
5. 18-20 somethings traveling in massive packs with school or church groups

i'm 21 on my own and everyone assumes i'm a big creepo or traveling with my parents. the only people i hang out with are thai except for a few older guys that i met rock climbing. i feel like there's practically no one my age in my situation. thank you poker i guess.

other observations:
1. thai people love linkin park
2. some tourists are unbelievably demanding in that they'll pass up multiple internet cafes with the same rate just looking for one with the best fan placement (i don't know exactly what they're looking for, just that they never seem to be satisfied). same with restaurants. they'll check out a menu at a standard tourist-type place then keep walking, no doubt to settle on a nearly identical restaurant after walking another 10 minutes.

Arggh!

We got the recco for Spice from a Thai woman my gf was chatting to and asked the taxi driver to take us thr from Nana bt I think he decided to take us to Spicey on his own for a kickback. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH BKK!

In answer to cookie, the drinks prices and overall prices are lower in Phuket (even in most places in Patong) as long as you know where your heading.

Not sure; gettint visa this week.

Aside from no beach, shttty interwebs and early closing times, Viennetienne is quite nice.

WhoIam, me and Na have had some interesting nights so far.

1st night: Lao Original gansta show on the meking riverbank with a Canadian eminem dude, a malaysian hip hop trio and loads of drunk peoples dancing.

2nd night: rented a MB and we drove 18km out of viennetinne to se some backwoods MuayLao. WhoIam and I were the only farangs in sight, and even my Thai GF stuck out a bit. Everyone was way friendly and cool once my gf and I started speaking in Thai with them. One of the highlights was about 20 or so 5-10yr old Lao kids watching the giant farang trying to win at the dart/balloon game. 6 tries at 1K kip per go (totl of about $0.80) and never hit more then 2 out 3 balloons. I think I made some friends though hen i gave away the 6 pieces f candy to the gathered kids.

fuller TR to follow later. Gotta head out and start the nights festivities (remembr everything closes at 1130PM here.

I'll be there in a couple of weeks time - I sent off my 3x60 day visa application earlier today so as soon as I get that back I can finalise my arrangements. Looking to stay in Bangkok for a couple of months, then head to Samui or Phuket for a couple of months, then possibly Philippines and/or Laos

I'm coming from Canada in May for 3.5 months and I'm planning to use Thailand as kind of a central hub for my travelling. Do I need to pick up a Visa? What about Visas for some of the other countries around Thailand? I'm planning to visit Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and possibly the Philipines.
