Does anyone know of a somewhat cheaper place to shoot clay pigeons in Bangkok? Everything I found is around $80-$100 which is pretty standard back in the U.S.

When I traveled to Taipei I found out quickly the taiwanese/chinese food I ate there was nothing similar to the stuff back home. I assumed it would be different but I did not enjoy. I love the Thai restaurants in my city (Pittsburgh) and wonder if it is the same type of situation as far as Thailand goes.

Is the Thai food there similiar or about the same compared to the thai restaurants in the US? Also, are there many farang restaurants and pubs that offer western food such as hamburgers etc. ?

I would really like if there is anyway possible to get American TV, in HD in Thailand. I've heard this is possible using slingbox technology but if anyone has any ideas on this let me know.

Last thing was marijuana, I smoke everyday and I need to have it available all the time, I read somewhere there was an island called Ko Samui that you could just smoke in public after dinner because there were no cops and people didn't care. I also don't want to get killed by a drug dealer if his gf smiles at me, so is it safe as well? Is the internet reliable on this island?

I'm a poker pro as well, and I feel like Pittsburgh is boring the **** out of me and I am dropping 1200 a month on a 2 bedroom in the city, and that money goes along way in Thailand. Thanks.
1200 for a 2 bdrm in the city? Damn. Out here in sf you can't get a ****ing studio for that much unless you want to live in the ghetto and get shot up.

Ok, to everyone whos living or staying in thailand for an extended period of time, where abouts are you guys living? Im in Koh Samui atm, going to Koh Phangan in a week or so and i have to admit, Koh Samui isnt nearly all you guys crack Thailand up to be, so where r you all?

Or, if anyone else knows where abouts are the best places to be?

What do you want? If you want to be in a nice beach area with some fun stuff, but not as hectic and seedy/disgusting as Patong (Phuket) type area then Id checkout Chaweng (Koh Samui). The clubs there adjacent to the Green Mango have a young western crowd with lots of hot tanned European and w/e girls if thats what you're after.

If beach, sun, good food, relaxing and meeting lots of western girls is not what you're after and you want to engage in more active degeneracy then Bangkok or Phuket or w/e would be your best bet.

I think Koh Samui is far nicer than Phuket. Buri Rasa at Chaweng is a really nice hotel with great suites, and a nice spa. The little bar overlooking the beach does great modern food as well. Theres another one just down the beach that does really good international food as well.

http://www.burirasa.com/rates.html

Definitely checkout Koh Tao and do some diving, and relaxing. On Koh Tao I would stay at Montra Resort which is brand new. Very nice.

Book yourself maybe 1 or 2 nights in the suites at Koh Nang Yuan though. Amazing private island just off Koh Tao. http://www.nangyuan.com/

Koh Phangan I didnt really enjoy, but had the nicest beaches of anywhere. The Had Rin party area is quite disgusting but the opposite side of the island has very nice beaches. We stayed at CandleHut on the opposite side of the island and the rooms were nice, but overall I would try and find somewhere else. http://www.phangan.info/candlehut/. Full moon party is really overrated IMO. If youre into drinking, drugs, partying and w/e its still fun but the crowd is pretty douchy, and its VERY messy. Wasnt a huge fan, despite enjoying that sort of stuff a lot back home.

I have heard Krabi is nice for doing adventure sports type stuff like rockclimbing, abseiling, caving, etc. Koh Phi Phi seemed really overdeveloped and ruined.

Overall I dont think the beaches really that nice in Thailand compared to Australia, but overall the experience is nice. The really warm water, good weather, and the comfort of the change of pace in lifestyle obviously helps.

Bangkok obviously has great eating, shopping, nightlife and the most local young people of anywhere, but obviously its not very relaxing as its a big dirty Asian city. It doesnt really feel that different to any other big dirty Asian city really IMO. Obviously no beaches, although Ive heard Koh Samet is ok from Thai people. Like most big cities though, they are good places to live for young people who want tons of places to eat, drink, and party, and meet other young people. You obviously won't get as much of this is in tourist-only destinations, but it really depends if you are on a holiday or if you are looking for a place to live.

The island is pretty crowded, but if you look well there are really beautiful places to live.

If you are just traveling I agree a week is enough to just enjoy this, and keep discovering Thailand. Just buy a guide.

lol nice.

Of course there are many beautiful places to go visit - Chang Mai/Rai, Koh Chang, all those islands by Samui, Phuket, anywhere in Krabi, and countless other places around the Thailand. Based on my experience to some of those places, and talking with many other 2p2ers and other people who have traveled all over the country, Bangkok is the clear choice for a person whom I assume to be a young poker player looking to move here for a few months.

Stop getting so defensive any time someone says bkk>wherever. You know it's true or else you wouldn't be moving here in a few weeks

No offence but you sound like Pumpui when every one of your last 5 posts state the same thing

And I had already forgot about Pumpui but then I saw him on facebook's "friends you might know" things since he is actually friends with some of you there

+1 for thinking Phuket is a better place to be than BKK overall(I have always held this position fwiw).

Obv the only reason me and Nick are going to BKK is b/c a lot of cool people whom we know are over there right now and it's guaranteed to be a good time for a while. (although if a select 2 or 3 of you were still in Phuket I'd be there in a second).

It's just very annoying to hear someone say "BKK > all, and anyone else who thinks different is a moran"

Well, no. That's really not true.

Just like it's not true to call anyone a moran over close decisions of matters of taste (preference of beer, attraction towards certain girls, hell even what type of green/yellow/red curry we like with our food). I mean, I don't look down on anyone's taste on TV shows, books or movies so why should I be called a "moran" for wanting to live near the beach instead of the city?

Also LOL @ pumpui actually having "friends".

meh, none taken. in my enthusiasm to convey how much more i like bkk than phuket, i was a bit careless and shone phuket in a negative light, which is far from the truth. i do like phuket, i just like bkk a whole lot more.

and it's not meant as a personal attack on anyone. the moran comment was in jest. if you like phuket better i really don't care. and while i do understand that some of you (li) are moving here because it's where most of your friends are, most made the move because they like bangkok more.

anyway, this argument is childish and been harped upon way too much in the past. if any of you phuket lovers want, we can fight about it when you get to bkk.

ORLY?

I'll accept the offer but don't want to go to the big ole smelly city to do it. Howzabout we meet at high noon somewhere in an Issan rice field armed only with bottles of Jameson and fistcloth dipped in glass?
