There's no update on thaivisaservice.com's homepage yet, hopefully that means it was quietly forgotten and it stays at 60 days

That agency seems to have its finger on the pulse with this kinda thing ime

It looks identical to your screenshot, except there's no "Revolut rate ... " line. Just those two below. And withdrawal is only in BHT. No other conversions.

Anyone heard anything more about this tournament? I haven't seen any news since the original announcement. With the casino bill dead I was wondering if it would affect this.

Thanks, reading the website it appears this exhibition is playing for "travel funds"? I hope that is code for cash because I have no intention of playing for credit with some travel agency.

Oh no, I had a closer look too, I overlooked that, and yes, you are correct. That doesn't look good. I assume it's a similar model then when I played a few "legal" (at least it was promoted like that) tourneys in Hongkong. Obv you bought in with cash which got you whatever number of tokens (you also had to become a member and other small BS), then you used those to buy into the tourneys. But the payouts you could only use to buy into sister tournaments around the region. I assume it's more or less the same. That's a pile of BS obv. Combined with no cash game availability that will prolly be a big disaster. Meh, what are these people thinking.

Same same, but different, Tomorrowland Thailand 2026 is apparently on 27 Dec 2026. Yeah that's an excellent date for many of your target customers, I suppose

The casino bill was withdrawn.

Some theorized that the whole border conflict thing with Cambodia/Thailand was just a way for Cambodian leader Hun Sen to make Thailand's leaders lose face until they withdrew the bill. This was to protect Cambodia's casino interests as obviously casinos in Thailand would cut into their business. I think there were also some Thai investors with a piece of the pie in Cambodia who preferred the Thai bill killed.

I'm not 100% sure on exact details, but basically one group of corrupt politicians got their way over another group of corrupt politicians and the bill is dead.

"A total of 25 tournaments fill the roster highlighted by the WPT Prime Thailand Exhibition Championship Event which features a THB 37,000,000 (~US$ 1 Million) guarantee in Travel Funds."

Who the **** is going to play in this? Could they **** up Thailand any more?

The Sports Authority of Thailand has recognized poker as a sport! Not sure what this really means since it also says it must remain strictly skill-based, with no gambling allowed. Emsphere tournament is definitely on and they confirmed that "travel funds" is just code for cash. They will be paying out in Thai baht.

The SAT emphasised that poker, renowned for its strategic depth, is a widely popular card sport that requires intelligence, psychology, and emotional regulation. The game's newfound status in Thailand may lead to economic gains by attracting players, spectators, and tournaments, thereby amplifying the nation's appeal as a sports tourism destination, reported Thai Newsroom.

The directive comes with a caveat: it mandates that poker must strictly remain a sport, untainted by gambling associations. This constraint ensures that the country, while embracing poker's sporting potential, avoids the pitfalls of gambling addiction.

WPT Thailand just announced they are postponing by one day. First event was supposed to start 3pm on Wednesday. Their announcement says that an "updated schedule will be announced within 24 hours." Doesn't sound good at all for this tournament.

Haha. I'm still waiting for my DTV visa, so I can just watch on the sidelines (not allowed to enter the country while processing). I thought I could maybe participate, but with those travel vouchers or whatever, that would have never happened anyway. Keep us updated how it goes...
