Football and outdoor sports are allowed but gyms in red zone provinces closed.

They're going strong with mask wearing though and they can fine you up to 20k THB if you dont wear one on the street.
not correct anymore.
since today, 6 provinces (bangkok, chiang mai, chonburi, samut prakan and 2 more) are "deep red".
restaurants only take away , no more dine in. close at 9pm.
all shops (7-11 etc) closed from 11pm to 4am.
no massage, no nightlife. gyms closed, sport stuff closed. bkk has also all parks closed.
so in summary: there's really not much left. beach is still open, but cannot not (officially) hang there in groups.

how to get the best deals in condos in Bangkok atm ? I used to select the condos that I like and go to prakard forum, but prakard seems to be dead now

I can pay 1 year in advance, looking around facebook groups, hipflat, fazwaz, but all the agents are lazy as **** and the listed prices didn't seem to be much better compared to pre-covid

Hire a thai woman to handle things for you and make sure that the owners and agents don't know it's for you until the last minute. Doesn't guarantee that they won't pull a last minute bait and switch to stick it to whitey but it's less likely.

Have an idea what buildings and units you like and let them do the leg work.

Listed prices are face prices that require creative ideas to get around if people aren't desperate for tenants (i.e. throw in a couple free months etc.).

If you want higher end places chances are much lower that the owner actually is in need for tenants and it doesn't make a difference to them if they get rent money or not.

Ask service level workers (restaurant, coffee shop staff, people at markets etc.) that speak reasonable English. Thais are always down to help people in exchange for money, especially nowadays with lots of people financially struggling.

Do any poker sites allow players to play from Thailand? Or do you use a VPN? Can't most sites detect the VPN and stop you from playing?

you can play on every major site except party from Thailand, with thai IP/registered Account. No VPN needed

Just read an article saying Pattaya is planning to reopen in the last quarter to vaccinated tourists but still needing the 14 day quarantine at a government mandated hotel.

Meanwhile, also read that Phuket is going to be open starting in July without quarantine to vaccinated tourists. Just says 7 days need to be spent in Phuket before leaving to other provinces.

Anyone know exactly how this works? Plan is to get to Pattaya but really don't want to stay in a hotel for 14 days.

You wouldn't have to do the 14 day quarantine at a designated hotel if you fly straight into Phuket, not entirely sure how it works if you have a layover in Bangkok.

The Phuket reopening on July 1st seems to be possible and they have been talking about it for a while now, I dont see it as clear with Pattaya though (at least not for that date) since is not an island and it might be harder to control. They been vaccinating a lot of people here in Phuket and they really want/have to open as the island is pretty dead besides everywhere besides a couple local areas and Rawai/Nai Harn (and even those are pretty dead compared to what it was before covid ofc).

Your best play is probably to fly into Phuket, spend 1-2 weeks there and then go to Pattaya.

But these things can change in a couple days so you should be aware and check your options closer to the date when you want to come.

Traded with Cmason - his Thai baht for my UK bank transfer, I sent first, very smooth trade. If looking for Thai baht don’t be afraid to deal with him.

Gonna be pretty tough qualifying as a poker player in a country where poker is illegal. +17% income tax if you are able to qualify.

The qualifications probably exclude 90% of "digital nomads". For the other few, seems legit though.

Seems like a step in the right direction. I think they're setting their sights too high but at least it's starting to soak into the government's head that these people add value.
They should drop the prereq down to $30k a year. At $30k people are not busto and basically all of that money is getting dumped into the local economy. Direct foreign investment has been plummeting even pre covid, they should be welcoming anyone that wants to come here and drop all their salary into the country.

That's only for Thai income. DNs should be expected to have 0% (or very little) Thai-based income, and even if they do probably nobody is going to look it up

Thailand is the land of proposals that never see the light of the day.

Things only get approved if serious money greases the wheels of bureaucracy and makes thai officials with fragile farang hating egos forget their contempt for the very people that are the indirect source of their wealth.

That's why the ridiculously expensive elite visa exists.

Just remember even if some proposal passes by some miracle, at east a third of thais hate you for existing in their country and you'll always be one step away from getting thrown off a balcony or ending up in prison at this point.

The powers that be want Singapore with North Korean characteristics at this point.

Westerners are just an obstacle to this.

Don't project some sort of free market capitalism thinking onto the powers that be.

The powers that be just temporarily allocated their serfs to westerners but now that Bangkok has reached peak development the usefulness of westerners has expired and it's good riddance time thai style through ever increasing obstacles to stay in the country and proposals to open up thailand to more westerners that never get passed.

The last pattaya grandpa who still thinks he lives in the 80s and 90s will be dead soon and then a brave new world will come.

Brief self intro: From SG, played on FT and PS until the SG govt made online poker illegal. Play 1/2 with friends once a while. Planning to move to Chiang Mai this July/August for semi-retirement and hope to be playing online again.

Are there any poker house in Chiang Mai?
If there isn’t any at the moment, would anyone be interested to set up one together?

Unless you're at retirement age and qualify for a retirement visa with ever increasing income requirements or want to shell out the big bucks for the elite visa you're one step away from being kicked out of the country.

It's the last place I would want to be right now with all the economic challenges and anti foreigner hatred. While you could theoretically pass as chinese thai, in practice locals will quickly notice that you're a foreigner and will gossip how you can even afford to stay so long and how you must be a criminal on the run etc.

Things were already bad 5 years ago in the land of frowns and kill whitey sentiment when the economy wasn't in the shitter yet.

Not any grindhouses that I'm aware of here in CM but you can post an ad on this thread and try to set up one. There are some poker players here and plenty of activities and places to meet expats, also renting a house or a condo is super easy and there are plenty of options available, rent here is so cheap that unless you want to live with other grinders to improve or for company it makes much more sense living alone.

Dont hesitate to ask if you have any further questions about the city either here or by PM.

Ah, and disregard anything ILiveinAsia says, hes a poor troll that hates SEA , check his post history and you'll understand.
