i disagree here. i have seen Thai's refuse to barter down from a price they have set even if it is +EV for them to do so. If you would have stood strong on 7k baht, I actually think its more likely you are in jail right now than free.

20K isn't a bad price to pay from what I've heard, it could run much higher. This is about the same price you'll pay if you get in an accident while drinking and driving.

I think you can have knives in your checked luggage but definitely check first. You could also just ship it.
