I'd be very weary about shady agents. There have been fake visa cases in the past and in corona times where everybody and his mom is strapped for cash anything can happen.

Even with the elite visa program anything is possible.

I'd rather look into the Malaysia 2nd home program if you have significant savings. Much more developed and orderly, cheaper, more stable and hookers are available as well if you're into P4P.

I'll take my chances with the homicidal, coffee brewing HiSo's before living in Malaysia. Gotta be the most racist country in SEA.

Yesterday at school I filled application, they took photos for ED visa, made copies of passport/current visa. I am not sure where they send this application/passport copies but after 1 week my application should be ready and then I will go with staff from school to immigration, pay 16k to immigration and give them my passport. Then immigration takes 2 weeks to give me ED visa and I can collect my passport at my school.

So in total after 3 weeks I should have my ED visa.

Also they said deadline for this is around 9th-11th July, after that will need to go out from Thailand to get ED visa. Not sure BS or not but if I were you I would contact some schools around you ASAP.

I didn't have any bad experiences in KL. Just live in central KL (Bukit Bitang / near KLCC / Bangsar Baru) and you shouldn't have any issues.

I'm white and don't penny pinch on the already cheap rents so others might have different experiences.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I'll look into some soon if thats the route I'm going. Its either going to be something like this or going the shady Pattaya agent route. I'm not going to be sitting here with my fingers crossed hoping the Thai government extends this amnesty thats for sure.

Really, how are they racist? They are literally a melting pot of different races over there.

Guess I should walk that back a bit, every country is pretty racist. I guess just the overall "no fun" vibe I get in Malaysia and their institutionalized racism is what tips it for me. Bumis have a lot more advantages over the minorities there and the minorities have been there for 100's of years, it's not like they're newcomers but they just consistently out work the indigenous and get penalized for it.

"Here are some examples as to what these benefits entail. Malaysians, for example, are entitled to a 7% discount on all housing whereas Chinese or Indian Malaysian citizens are not. There are also quotas for the number of Malays in universities, for scholarships and positions in private companies yet no such quotas benefit minorities. There are also special Malay-only classes to assist students in their end of year exams in university. Many government-tended projects require companies wishing to fulfil contracts to be Malay owned (an issue my father encounters a great deal as an architect). This is by no means a comprehensive list, there are many more policies designed to favour Malays that, in turn, discriminate against minorities."

It always just plain shocks me when I read stories on here with people who willingly give up their passports for other people to hold. Are you insane??? When I'm in a foreign country my passport never leaves my sight, period.

ILIA - Was wondering if you might care to share your story ITT?

Seems obvious you had some bad experiences here and are never coming back. Would be interesting to hear the full story if you're willing to share!

Cheers

Lol in some outlandish scenario where someone steals your passport, you go to the embassy and get sorted. I’m also lucky enough that I have two, so maybe I have less irrational fear.

Gogos closed today in patong full army squad came and closed them down at 10pm last night, bars that opened were full, but maybe 10% of bars opened. Nightclub was packed until at least 3am when I called it a night.

Very shortly this will be the greatest time potentially ever to be in Thailand, things wer getting ******ed, in terms of prices girls expected, the pestering for drinks, etc. Now going to be almost no competition, and never been asked for drinks less before(twice all night, as opposed to >20) brighter times ahead for degens.

I view the majority of thais these days in Bangkok and any white trash that associates with them as predatory ghetto gutter trash and criminals.

When even regular thais are confronted daily with predatory police and all kinds of schemers looking to take from them, the unconnected white guy is seen as an easy scam victim / "upper class" punching bag for thai frustrations.

You're essentially living in a xenophobic hellhole where people are hellbent on extracting from you with or without your consent and you might even end up dead.

isn't that a good thing for us living here?

baht has been too strong for a while now, the best beaches are overcrowded and overdeveloped, girl prices have gone up alot in the last 10 years, as have condo prices, etc etc.

so post covid we'll be living in a country where our money goes further, holiday spots are nicer, those of us with savings might be able to buy condo/property at a good price, and ladies of the night will be more affordable. whats the downside again?

Thailand will survive without tourism. they grow and make stuff here, its not a place like maldives for example that is just tourism.

Which countries you refer to when you say "these"?

Every country is xenophobic at some degree imo. Dont think Thailand is one of the most xenophobic ones, at least from the ones I've been to.

and I think you're judging Thailand only on tourist-heavy areas also. tourists will be a mark for scumbags everywhere in the world. Some in Thailand do make it easy though due to ignorance or lack of english. I've seen police shake down chinese tourists for 2000 a piece for not carrying their passport on them while everyone else paid 500 for no helmet at a motobike checkpoint.

There is a gap in your logic; not being the "most" xenophobic doesn't make it "low" xenophobic.

Yes, you're right. I dont think is nearly as xenophobic as ILIA makes it look on his posts though, and that was mainly my point.

The Immigration Bureau is discussing the possibility of extending visa amnesty for foreigners stranded in Thailand, Foreign Ministry’s deputy spokesperson Natapanu Nopakun said at the daily Covid-19 briefing on Friday (July 3).
The Cabinet’s last resolution was to grant an automatic visa extension for foreigners stranded here to stay until July 30.Natapanu asked people to be patient, adding that the immigration bureau’s decision on the subject will be made public soon.

Hopefully we get another 3 months

I'm guessing extension until end of Sept. at least. From everything I've been hearing they're not in a hurry to start international flights til October.

Another 3 months would be amazing.

(I'd be happy with 1 more month which would give me enough time to apply for 1 year marriage visa). If there's no extension I'd be quite screwed since it is nearly impossible to do a border run, and would have to fly back to the hell hole that is America)
