Is anyone else learning to read and write? I'm doing this now with Lao and it seems to be getting exponentially easier as I go on. It took a week to learn "hello" and another week to learn "Hello, what is your name?" but now I can learn a 4 sentence dialog in a day. I'm currently learning the tones associated with each letter so I'll be able to correctly pronounce any word I see or look up in the dictionary. It's really nice to be able to read signs and menus and be able to write down words or phrases as they come up. The weird thing is my conversational Lao still sucks, so I can't have a basic conversation but can say (and write) things like "that's his elephant, isn't it?"

Just got back to Sydney. Was cool to catchup briefly at the end of the trip with all the guys. Their setup in Kata is really sweet! Thanks to Ron for helping me out with a few things.

Definitely will be back soon. 10 days in Bangkok and 16 days in Phuket wasnt enough. Weather was especially awesome in Phuket.

Sat next to a middle aged German dude who has lived in Kata for about 20 years now, and chatted to him about all sorts of things. As a bit of a side project he acts as a middle man selling properties and land for a few big thai/farang property developers, and has been doing so for the past 15 years. He has lots of properties available, I'll find his card and pass along his email address. Told him what you guys were paying at Kathanda and he said he had lots of new properties available of just of high a standard for far less per month, especially now in low season.

Last few days in Phuket were almost as insano as last few days in Bangkok. Awesome awesome place though. You can get into all sorts of **** in Thailand!

how do you people manage to open moneybookers accounts in thailand without a thai id for verification of address? i know they send letters here but u also need id proof.. or they settle for bank statement for proof of identity?
