Thanks a lot for the responses, guys.

Beach is not necessary at all, just thought it would be nice if I could relax by the ocean for a few days. I haven't bought my tickets yet, will do that in the next day or two, so I can fly into whichever city is best. Just looked up tickets for BKK-Siem Riep, lol, ~$50, so that sounds like what I'll be doing. I was thinking that seeing the countryside of Thailand via a train trip would be interesting but if you guys don't think it is worth it I'll scratch that idea.

As far as hotels go, should I book them in advance or can I manage by just showing up?

As an aside, I was planning on spending a few days in Korea and Japan, if you've been to either of those places do you think it would be worth it to skip out on those and just stay in Thailand/Cambodia for a few extra days?

Haha, you're really trying to squeeze in a lot. Not the worst idea to spend 36hrs in either Tokyo or Seoul but it will come at a cost of 2 days or so somewhere else.
If you want to see countryside and PP stays in your itinerary then I would recommend the boat ride from Siem Reap to PP or another good boat ride is Siem Reap to Battambang. There are some some killing fields out there also if that's something you want to see.
No reason to book hotels in advance, Agoda is your friend and I think in your case this is the best route because you are trying to do so much in so little time it's better to be flexible. You may find that you are really enjoying yourself somewhere and need to leave because of a hotel booking. And keep that in mind. If you are really enjoying yourself somewhere just stay there. Don't try to go running around ticking off boxes of places you have been.

Yeah, your last sentence is definitely smart. The time spent in the other two places would be separate from the 14 days in Thailand/Cambodia, looks like it is going to be about 20-21 days total. I have no real connection to any of these places, but I'm going to be leaving Asia for the foreseeable future following this trip so I figured I might as well try to do as much as possible, but I guess if I'm tired the whole time from traveling that would be pretty -ev.

Boat trip sounds good. Killing fields...yeesh. That is heavy. I've been to a few concentration camps in Europe as well as the Nanjing museum, those places kind of sucked the happiness out of me, but were all very memorable.

As someone who just did 3 cities in 7 days (bkk-phuket-pattaya), i'd agree that less is more. Everything felt rushed and a lot of the time was drained from travel.

Might just be personal preference but Bangkok was quite disappointing on all fronts. So i'd recommend just 2 days or less there. Maybe see temples and a muay thai fight and move on.

I'm the first on the front lines (standing alarmingly close behind jspill) to say how much I love BKK for long-term staying, but I agree that for tourist purposes it's really not that great if you're not into degening. Basically some temples, night markets, street food and then other standard huge city stuff. You can skip it and do that stuff in Chiang Mai.

Fish I agree with above as 5 south is right, I had a ball in Bangkok even with my 13 year old daughter in tow. We both visited S21 an old prison from Pol Pot days in PP. My Daughter purchased a book and had Photo with one of the survivors.

Even the Massages at RK were great and we shouted our Taxi driver as well, plenty of Markets, Boat Ride on the River was Nice and we only said yesterday that if we go back will look at a Long Journey on the Mekong and also visit the Shipping Port at Snooki. A German motel owner told me that an Island off there would be the Best he has seen in the World, would have to be good to beat some in Queensland, let alone the rest of world.

I am quite sure Bangkok Dental Services are a lot cheaper than Phuket as even their Hospital ripped me off for a Scan after saying it was a MRI as even an MRI is only $500 in Perth and a scan was $1100 they had to call security, as I got a little upset. They even crossed out the bottom line on the quote and changed it with a pen after I had signed.

which hospital was that?

It was the phuket International Hospital, my son also had dental work done there. But you still had to wait on the Screwins to be made in BK. It was our first day of a 28 day stay so it wasn't a good start with me abusing the Security and Hospital Admin esp after having to sign Invoice then they just cross it out and change it.

We had to go there 4 times for various dental work for Son and we would end up at Big C getting massages. But my Taxi man Mr T found a dentist for me at 40% of total charge and a walkin as he knew them.

First time trying out viagra.
I took half a pill, and my 'ding dong' didn't go up for a hole day.
My lust for sex has decreased after taking this pill.

Kamagra didn't work for me the first time, but worked every time after.

Were you dehydrated or had you not eaten much that day? These drugs don't work as well if that's the case.

Seeing a muay thai fight sounds like something I would definitely be interested in, going to do some searching.

I have RMB and USD, should I try to exchange RMB into baht (or USD) before getting to Thailand or after arrival? Googling has said that I should just wait until getting to BKK but it kinda makes me nervous going to a country without their currency. Going to be cancelling my Chinese bank account so I won't have a unionpay card anymore, just a credit card.

Think I'm going to skip out on the other countries and just go with Thailand/Cambodia for 20 days total. Decided that I want to fit in a few days at least on a beach as they look so awesome.

There are a bazillion Chinese tourists in Thailand so exchanging RMB is no problem. Change $100 or so at the airport to get some baht in your pocket then go to the nearest "superich" money exchange outlet the next day and they have great rates.
I'm not sure but there may even be a superich at the main airport but someone else will need to confirm that.
RMB in Thailand and Cambodia uses USD so you're set there.

can confirm there is a superrich at phuket and bkk airports (not sure if both dmk and bkk have it.)

.
I'm not even a huge ufc/boxing fight fan etc but the atmosphere alone is worth the price of admission.

Go to Rajadamnern Stadium and get a tier 2 ticket for 1500 baht. Just buy at the venue as it's the same price as online. They have 3-4 fight cards a week. Schedule is on the website.

Locals going crazy in tier 3 gambling and screaming is a sight to see. They're separated by a chain-link fence.

Going to stay in BKK for 3-4 weeks and then head to Pattaya and possibly Phuket or Phi Phi island for a week or so.

Would like to rent a room/condo in BKK and then just book hotels as I travel. What areas should I stay in BKK?

Any good websites to look for a 1 month room with all the western amenities (air con is a must)? Willing to spend a little more (1,000-1500 USD) for comfort.

Stay somewhere in sukhumvit, close to a BTS station. Aircon indeed is a must.

Noble remix on airbnb for a month with that budget, that's a popular spot right next to thong lo bts

General area somewhere between nana and thong lo on sukhumvit road, nana / asoke / phrom phong / thong lo are 4 bts stations in the centre in that order

1k seems a ton :P

Im currently renting a decent apartment for 600 a month close to a bts.

The problem is, you will need a 1 month deal. Or they will charge u for every day.

I appreciate the replies! Maybe I'll lower the rental budget to allow for more degen activities haha.

Definitely want a 1 month deal, most places charge significantly more for a daily rate.

Depends on where you go.
Bkk is around 1k a month
Girls are so easy here... its a culture shock.

The first months you will come here you will overspend.

There are so many different kind of fruits, most of them are fresh yes.
Food is cheap, however brand clothes is the same price.
Good beer is overpriced (import).

Any legit ramen spots in Pattaya? The ones at central festival are shiit, same with the one not far from the hospital off of buakhao.

I'm talking like Tokyo quality ramen, none of this sewage water ish
