Must read technique 3 is my fav LOL

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/Reader/reader2027.htm

Technique 3

I learned this one from a nice fellow that I met one afternoon at a local watering hole in Bangkok. We had been chatting for a few minutes and then I asked him what he did and he handed me his business card.

It had the name of some company and his title as CEO or something similar. I asked him what he did and he said, “Nothing. I just use the card to get laid.”

I said, “Ummm, what do you mean that you ‘use’ the card to get laid?”

He said, really it’s quite simple, many things are very cheap in Thailand as you well know, and that includes printing. I said, “So?”

Then he went on to tell me how he gets business cards printed up all of the time with some fictitious company name, with NO company address on the card, just his name and CELL phone number. He gives his cards out to all girls that he meets.

Then, once he hands enough of his cards out, he starts to get girls calling HIM at all times of the night and day, who are also motivated and hungry for money and that is why they are calling him! He likes the variety calling him on different days and at different times. This would be a great technique for a guy who likes surprises and can ‘go with the flow’ when choosing his playmates.

Personally, I am not one of the guys as I have laser focus on what I want, at that exact time and I do not want something different. Just like when I am at Baskin Robbins. I mean, sure...they do have 31 flavors, but sometimes I when I have a hankering for something in particular and I want like peanut butter chocolate scoop and no ordinary orange sherbet will substitute for that! A man has to have guidelines and be selective at times, you know!!!

i like it. also good for poker players to not have to explain what it is that we do. now just have to think of the name of my company and a good story lol

what's the best way to get a long term rental ? I'll probably stay a whole year and want something in the price range of 15k-25k a month. Should i try to book a house beforehand or just get a hotelroom for a week and try to find a nice house locally? And if i'm there how do i find a decent deal without being ripped off?

this one looks pretty tempting:

of course you want to check out the place and the area first before you sign anything.

pictures on a internet page lie more than 1000 words, or whatever.

go there, go look some places, get some feel what you get for the money.

have you been to hua hin since you consider living there for a year?

no, but i like it more quiet and not too "touristy" without living too far away from all the conveniences (especially decent broadband internet) Somewhere like Hua-hin seems to fit that description?
but i'm open to all suggestions
i wanna go by late august

Have you thought about visiting a few places first before committing to hua hin(not saying it can't be optimal for you).

don't know if "decent broadband" exists in Thailand.

I suggest that you visit some places and stay at one you like the most(if you haven't committed to any place yet in any way)

If that pool is private id rent that place just for the pool alone...

What places do you suggest?

I looked into Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and hua hin/cha am:
I'm not interested in any kind of condo. I definately want a nice house with a small garden+pool. So Bangkok is pretty much out of the question, unless i pay a lot more for rent afaik.
Since i don't necessarily require a beach, i thought about Chiang Mai, but i was seriously turned off by the prospect of 38-40C° during dry season.

So without any deeper insight it's between Phuket and the gulfcoast around HH.

Pattaya seems pretty low class from what i've read, not sure though if that's true.

I guess i could take 2-3 Weeks to travel around. Or alternatively just start out with a one month rental and keep looking for other places.

so my criteria are: quiet house, garden, pool would be nice, let's say rudimentary adsl, safe!, some decent places to shop (hua-hins Marketvillage is a plus as well) for AV stuff
+ i like mountainbiking
maybe get into golf

so from what i've read HH seems a good place to start from.
But i definately like some more input.

this is deff the thing to do especially if you haven't been in Thailand before, its worth it alone just for the traveling. and you'll know for sure you find a nice place you wanna stay for a longer time

Hua Hin is boooooooooring IMO

Edit : - if you need friend and are young, hua hin expats are very old on average
- Not too touristy doesn't define hua hin at all it's just as touristy as phuket and stuff
- No cinema with english movies, one mildly decent nightclub, very average shopping
- The hua hin expats who own businesses there like to advertise the city a ton on internet don't trust them.

Of course it's not too far from bkk so the location is good. But one year there?

Yes easy. You'll just be 120-150 bahts away from bangkok in taxi. You can even have a house in bkk for a bit under 30k ( in higher sukhumvit even ) but no garden.

Notice that houses with pool are very expensive in bkk and around.

You can try Rayong too, same distance from bkk than hua hin, less touristy but same problem with entertainment. (but 30min from pattaya )

i actually like hua hin. good weather, beach, lots of golf. you can have a car there and there is very little traffic. its the closest i've seen to small/medium town american style living. no pollution or ladyboys and very few touts. i don't know that i'd want to live there but if you enjoy a slower pace of life and don't need lots of stuff to do all of the time, especially night life, then its a good option methinks. they def have good internet.

best bet is just to come to thailand and visit all of cities you might want to live in and then make your decision.

when you get bored of seeing ladyboys and hookers everywhere, going to Hua Hin it's a good idea..that place it's so quiet, clean with some nice clubs.
And the Hua Hin music festival over the beach, its the nut .
anyway yeah it can be boring staying there for 1 month+.

srsly, even if u dont plan on going out.. id say go phuket...
if by some chance one day u feel like going snorkling, u fork up a couple bucks and can go to phiphi in a short time...
or you can snork at the bottom of the island, awesome corals..

and i doubt hua hin has the waves of kata noi beach or the food selection phuket offers.

Phuket also has 3 cinema, 3 major shopping complex that i know of, bowling!, cute girls on motorbikes, tons of highschools and theres universities too (i love like 500m away from one.. hmm hmm eye candy)

and we def have more monkeys here!

Just got back from a visa run to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

First thing first, the city is almost an hour drive away from the airport. Pay ~80ringit, even thought the taxi drivers want ~150. There are nice toll booths on the way to city, which poker players can surely appreciate:

I stayed in a ****ty chinatown-style hotel build next to a prison in the metro downtown area. Yes, they have a jail next to all the skyscrapers. All the real hotels were booked for three months forward. The jail I think is empty, but the locals don't want to build any condo/shopping because they are afraid of the spirits of all the dead jailmates - "the night devil come!!! GARRRR!!" -said the taxidriver.

I just aimlessly wandered around the downtown area for 6-7 hours, and checked out the two biggest malls. If you like shopping, 9 stories of football fields should help you find whatever you want. The city is very clean, there is a skytrain for easy transportation and people understood english pretty well. There are no ATM's on the streets tho, you have to go inside the skyscrapers just to withdraw cash.

The most dissapointing thing about KL, was that I found _zero_ attractive women. After wandering around all day, all the women I came across were a solid 8 at best. And nobody was really smiling, which made me shiver for the first time since leaving Thailand. I guess that what it feels like to get back home for you The teen/early twenties girls were too busy paying attention to their cell phones, in their designer clothes and ****loads-of-gel haircuts, to actually stop for a second and smile.

After a day there, I finally figured out why. Apparently, Malaysia was a British colony back in the day when people got around the world by sailing wooden ships. And what happens when britons get bored and find themselves on short supply of tea and hot water bottles? They go **** people, and spoil perfectly good asian genes.

In the afternoon, I found myself in a park, dying in a grease fire and decided to take a pause from walking and sit in a gazebo and drink some water. I was approached by a Buddhist monk, who sat across me. After offering him some of my water, we quickly got in a 2 hour conversation on religion, culture, peace and solidarity. Before leaving, he asked me to sign his book where I pledged to live peacefully. He said I was well en route to englightenment and presented me with this gift:

The airport security didn't let me bring the well tanned, hairy, severed arm into the plane - so I threw it away but kept the pearls. They have magic runes which will boomswitch me for 3 weeks once I cancel my poker hiatus.

Watching Ironthumb 9table 200nl right now, waiting for the rain to stop so I can go watch Thai girls smile
