  2. Will I be safe the few days I am there for Dental work in big city?
  3. What kind of cost to stay on beach nice place?
  4. What is the wetahe like in July/August ? Good Time to go?

I e-mailed one place and they seemed cheap and gorgeous facility

You did post about this, but in the other Thailand thread. Someone asked the same question in one of these threads a few months back, you can look for that too.

4. July/August is the hot and somewhat rainy season, not the best time people say. I havent experienced it myself though
Pattaya sucks unless your a fat 50 year old looking to get hooked up. However, when I went I stayed at the Ice Inn which is really nice. It was only about 270 baht as I remember and had a TV, window with view and cleaner. It's an OK stop off place on the way to Koh Chang which is why I went.

You can get a train there from Bankgkok that took about 4 hours (was supposed to take 3 hours). I bought the ticket 30 minutes before the train left and it cost about 30 baht 3rd class.

QFTMFT

Pattaya is just a flowing river of sweat, beer, and sex juices that just happens to be alongside a beach, which, itself, isnt particularly nice.

Did any of you go trough an agent when getting an apartment for a longer period. Ore did you just do the manual way and walked around?

we drove around on motorbikes (Phuket) and looked for houses with for rent/for sale signs in front and called up the numbers to setup viewings etc.. Luckily we had a person with us who excelled at broken thai/broken english combo which seems to be understood almost as well as pure thai? ("we look bâan on mountain" was said more than once). I believe we got a decent deal (I posted pictures on the house a while ago) because we didn't go through english speaking websites etc.

alright. tnx

its just that most adds on acute.com and mr LOOMfinder has the same contact # on them. So i thought I might just go to the source and browse trough their gallery and get some help setting up viewings.

Doing legwork for a condominium with pool, fitness, inet-service just seems impossible here.

I think the dry season is from Oct to April/July, depending on where you stay. The monsoon hits Phuket first, then tracks east to samui like a month later. I'm going to split as soon as it get wet (I love the beach and sun too much), but I have friends here who swear by the low season. Not many farang and the girls are even easier to pull.

Just about to head down to Hau Hin from Bangkok tomorrow - was wondering if anyone knew of any decent hotels in the 1200 Baht price range? Ideally it would be quite central/close to te beach and bars .

Hi guys...

Im thinking about going to Bangkok or Pattaya for a couple of months. How big is the cost of living? I'm thinking about getting a cheap room or apt.. but partying and stuff? How much should my budget me? I'm in my early 20s (if age can be related to spending habits).

Hey guys,
My friend and I are traveling to Bangkok on the 21st and another friend of mine suggested this trip plan....
Leave Bangkok on the evening of the 23rd and fly to Chiang Mai
Leave Chiang Mai on the 25th or 26th and fly to Luang Prabang via Laos Airlines
Leave Luang Prabang on the 28th and go to Vieng Veng (sp?) via train or something (not really sure about how to get there)
Get from Vieng Veng to Veitmeng (capital sp?) on the 30th and take a first class night train back to Bangkok
Fly out of Bangkok on the 31st....

Is this trip plan too ambitious? If so what should we skip? What are good day trips, cool adventure type stuff to do at these places. Keep in mind we aren't going to get ass or anything, we just want to have a cool adventure type trip, think white water rafting, seeing cool animals, some ancient temples in jungles and ****.

Thanks for the help,
Bigjoe

As I've stated before -don't go to Pattaya. If you want to go there to pay for a girlfriend then its where u wanna be, but that doesn't sound like your intention.

2K USD a month would be a very cosy budget, imo. I personally got by on 1k.

Thanks Zasterguava, bought a ticket and flying to Bangkok in May 1st.

Someone living there told me that $1k is a minimum you need, but $2k is very cosy... (same as you), so how did you do with $1k? Obv I need internets to play poker as it's my only income.

i did a trip a lot like this when i was there. in general, it's going to be a bit fastpaced, and there are probably going to be places you wish you'd had more time at. but that's kind of always the case when you do these things. there are people here that will tell you to fade laos altogether, but i think they're wrong, and i think that, given the type of trip you're looking for, you'll have a great time in laos.

some things to know... the trains are all pretty ****ty and uncomfortable. so you just gotta know that going in and be ready to deal with it. it's not really that bad though, as long as you're not a huge priss or anything.

one thing i would say is maybe cut one day out of chiang mai and add it to bangkok at the end... and take another day off bangkok at the beginning and add it to the end. after all that backpacking/whatever, you're going to want to party a bit, and bangkok is a MAAAAD place to party. it really is nuts, and is worth experiencing.

as far as cool day trips, what you'll find is that at each place you go to, there will be tons of **** posted about stuff to do near the town you're staying in. and every tuk-tuk driver has a brother or a cousin or something that runs some sort of tourist thing, thats going to want to take you to the waterfall, or the elephants, or the bamboo rafting. just try to choose a good "tour company" and go for it. but for that stuff, i dont think youll ever really need to plan more than a day ahead.

the capital is vientiane (i think pronounced vee-in-chang, but this was the subject of much controversy), and its pretty sweet. rent some bikes and wail around the city for a day. i dont think youll need much time there though.

you'll hear about people going tubing down the river, probably around either luang prabang or vang vieng. do this. essentially you go tubing and they have these little stands set up where they sell you beer and you just get housed on your way down the river. also do the bamboo rafting, its pretty money. i fell in while going through a rapid. my guide, and the girls i was with, laughed at me pretty hard. i had fun. elephant ride is definitely worth it as well.

i mean, basically, all the tourist **** you'll hear about is worth doing, there's a reason it's so popular. and maybe pick up a lonely planet guide or something for thailand and laos and see if there's some sweet stuff that you won't hear about that you can check out on your own.

i think your schedule looks good though, i would just chop a day off chiang mai and chop a day off bangkok in the beginning, and spend those extra two days checking out bangkok before you leave. also, if you're into scuba diving or snorkeling or any of that, obviously there are a lot of opportunities to do that in thailand, so if you want to add a week onto your trip, you could check out some of the beaches down south.

anyway, enjoy dude. hope you have as good a time as i did. one of the best things i've ever been able to do as a result of poker.

I'm about to apply for a 3x60 day tourist visa to Thailand. I make my living from poker and sports betting (tennis). What should I put as my occupation on the visa forms etc? What have other fellow poker players done?
