+1 on the house being really sweet and the location is awesome. Short ride to a lot of really nice beaches and it's central for all of the nightlife options.

One thing I think Rutang forgot on the todo list:

-Get vaccinations for at minimum hep A + B, typhoid, dyptheria and tetanus. Preferably a month before you fly out so that they have time to kick in and you can get your boosters, but if that's not an option get them anyways cause it can't hurt and you can get boosters out here.

And the part about bringing condoms is no joke. The local brands have an alarming rate of breaking.

hey guys,

whats the hottest club for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night in Bangkok?

By hottest I mean snobby beautiful girls, overpriced bottles, and house music or maybe hip hop if it's mixed well.

Anyone have any tips for getting tables?

I'm coming to Thailand from the 10th May-5th June, as this is under 30 days I won't need to get a visa beforehand will I?

Travelling from the UK aswell, does anyone know where to get cheap flights?

Travelling up on my own for the first week and meeting a friend in the 2nd week, anyone else going on their own or got somewhere cheap for me to stay the first week, could be a house or hostel?

I am planning on drinking lots!

kan0,

you don't need a visa but you will officially need a ticket out of the country within the 30 days. sometimes it's not checked but just to make sure you got one

a question i havent seen answered in the time ive spent reading this thread:

how do u guys find your hours/month or hands/month is affected by living in thailand? do u try and get in similar amounts of hours as u would if u were living back home in u.s. or your native country, and if so how hard is it to do so without getting distracted?

after a year of living over here, i've almost gotten to the point where i'll play half as much as I did before I moved over here. It's been a long hard journey to get to this point. on the plus side, i get to wake up at 9am, and play during primetime with a fresh mind, a good night's sleep, and the sun shining bright.

pretty much everyone's internet was fairly solid in the area. i think the problem was with the network in my building and not the isp.

i guess i should have been more specific about how many hours exactly since i dont know how much u play... do u guys find it easy to get in 20 hours a week?

i didnt realise prime time was 9am thai time, that sounds pretty sick though since it will allow all evenings to be free.

it's tough to stay out late drinking and wake up at 10 every day but it's def worth it because you are done for the day in the afternoon and can then do whatever you want.

some ppl like to stay out super late every night and don't play much poker but they are having the time of their lives doing it.

my volume has dropped significantly since i've been here

but i never had planned to put in a massive amount of volume, so take that FWIW

i also think its kind of silly to ask "is it easy to put in 20hrs/week?" because thats going to be hugely dependent on you.
is it conceivable? certainly

Last edited by thorleif; 04-15-2010 at 06:01 PM. Reason: i guess if we all said we play 50hrs/week it could beneficially skew your expectations. ;/

so is the true internet the best option (the16mbps) one?

i think my volume would be heavily dependent on how stable the internet is there. last time iwas there, we stayed in hotels and it sucked for the first few but it was stable at grand sukhimvit hotel when they provided us our own router for 500 baht a day.

Hello everybody! I am planning a trip to Malaysia and Phuket in one month.

I have few question about this trip. First of all, i want to take a fly from BKK to Kuala lumpur and i would like to know how much is it!

After that, from Malaysia i would like to go to Phuket, do you think it's possible to take a bus? If yes how much is it. Or the train or wtv!

And in Phuket i would like to know where should i go. I want to rent a small hotel with 2 bedroom for 1 week. I want something not so expensive around the beach. Do you have any idea? Thanks you for your futur advice

You might also like Bed Supper Club on Sukhumvit 11, more snobs per square inch than just about anywhere - you'll have a lot more foreigners here though, and more hookers - it is also smaller.

Secret to getting a table is to show up early, call ahead or know a manager.

After all of these places close I would (obviously) suggest that you go to Scratch Dog. Secret to getting a table here is the same as above and as with the above places, your enjoyment will go up immeasurably if you do get a table.

If you find yourself tableless you can also try the tried-and-true worldwide method of tipping whomever is in charge. 500 Baht should do the trick (if that much is even needed). Overpriced bottles I think you will find quite reasonably priced compared to Western standards (I think the most I have ever paid anywhere is 3,000 Baht, for Grey Goose - more typical is 2k-2.5k for Johnny Walker Gold).
thanks for the info

I checked out bed last night at it was ok. But I think it was a little empty because everyone was out in the streets for Songkarn.

Probably going to check out Route 66 or give Bed another shot tongiht.

This won't be much help as I've kinda forgotten what to do. But the two ways I know it can be set up are by either going into a 12call shop and asking them for the unlimited internet plan and they quickly set it up, or by topping up your phone with over 999baht and entering some code that activates the monthly internet plan. I did that on my old sim card but can't remember the code, sorry :S

I think it's best just going into the 12call shop though as most often they have some kind of promotion that gives you it for cheaper than the standard rate. I don't think they will be much help in 7/11 but I could be wrong

with AIS/1-2-call there is a number you dial and you get the package automatically.

check their website

I went to the AIS store at Siam Paragon. They speak English there and will get you setup. I think the unlimited plan is 799 baht/mo. You have to get the netsim. Also, I believe in 7-11 you can only get topup cards, not the actual sim cards themselves.

why do you have to get "net sim" ?

i don't have it and still got the internet package

according to their website unlimited is 999/mo + vat
100 hours is 350+vat

net sim seems to have 99baht/month fee also, you get 30 hrs of internet use for that price

I got 100 hours without a net sim (whatever that is) for 200 baht/mo Lessu, so I think it is best to head to one of their shops to see if they can offer something better than the website rates

Do most of you over in Thailand live from poker? Also, what minimum stakes would I need to be winning at to be able to support myself over there?

really random question, but, does anyone here do any musical gigs at clubs? been djing a long time and wouldn't mind playing some clubs for fun. not sure how the crowd/club workers would react to a farang tho.
