Yeah it's 1.5 hrs from kickoff so it'd be sweet if someone can suggest a good sports bar for the game later

Also to the guys in Phuket:
-Where should I go to buy headphones/electric toothbrush on the island?

can any of the bkk'ers post me some names of good IT shops? (and possible their telephone numbers)

I want to buy this laptop but it can't get it in phuket and none of the stores here can order it for me.

If I can't get it in bkk and will have resort to ordering it online, how much will i have to pay in import taxes and is there a way to avoid these?

you're probably not going to find that laptop in bkk either. baller laptops are just not in high demand here. you might find a similar model though. just take an afternoon, go to pantip plaza and pick out the most baller model you can find.

try the power mall at siam paragon or fortune IT mall (near phra ram MRT).

i'd avoid pantip plaza if possible, unless you want pushy thai's annoying you all the time with porn and fake dvds.

power mall doesn't have nearly as many options as pantip. fortune might be okay, but i just dodged the first porn guy at pantip and then i had no problems while in IT city there.

To BKK ppl,

Does anyone know where I can buy a hookah + accessories in BKK? I'm looking to get some shisha and coals as well to stock up for Chiang Mai. Possibly Khao San Rd?

the phuketeers are fully stocked with americans now, and we don't know **** about where to catch a game of "footie". when the spaniards were around, we caught El Classico in patong. I know they watch football on the big screen at Peek Mai, there's a sports bar (sanook bar i think) on the road that intersects by the gas station in Kata, and coconut in karon, which is our regular hangout for pool, has a plasma and couches to watch football. I'd guess that coconut is the best option, it's a cool place to hang out.

where is a good place to start looking? i hear thong lor is a really nice area to live. I want to be kind of out of the grimey parts of BKK. I checked out the Prime11 condos, they look pretty good but im sure I can find better.

Im paying like 800 / month right now for rent back home so something around that would be fine .

Also what about internet? we want to get the fastest internet here. We are currently staying in the presidential suite in Grand Sukhimvit and they gave us our own router but its still not that fast. Its definately a solid connection but not as fast as we would like.

thanks!!
Victory Monument area is pretty happening near BTS, several quality condos close and plenty of bars / restaurants .

I would try Sukhumvit soi 3. Its the Arab soi and I'm pretty sure I've seen stores selling them there.

As far as I can tell, self-lighting charcoals don't exist in Thailand. I searched extensively for these about two years ago and none of shops or hookah bars had them or had even knew what they were. Using regular charcoals obviously makes smoking it much more of a hassle.

edit: random amusing story: My buddy's family owns a Turkish restaurant in Vientiane so they bought a bunch of hookahs for the restaurant. The police made them stop offering them because they didn't understand what the hookahs were and assumed they were drug paraphernalia.

Self lighting coals ruin the taste anyway.

best bet, imo, would be either bananna IT in the homepro mall near Chalong Circle OR the tons of IT shops in the basement of Big C in Phuket town.

go about 50 meters down from that gas station in Kata and there are a couple of guys camped there all night. Some others travel around the bar area.

That would be a huge beat for me as I don't have much resources to light coals besides a lighter.

It does taste worse, but less taste > no hooks imo.

Thanks for all the info guys.
