Paragon and Central World sell all the good brands of mens toiletries eg. BioTherme Clarins etc. along with all the colognes. Central World Food Hall or any other supermarket, Boots, etc. all sell any other toiletries pretty much.

I think sprayon deoderants are totally useless here but the rollon deoderants are exactly the same as in Australia at least, eg Nivea Mens, I think they have a much higher level of the zinc antipersperant stuff here though, so worth taking note of.

yeah this + cheaper than in europe/OZ. and even in every big supermarket you can buy decent nivea products.

There is only one thing that I hate to buy in Thailand. Toothpaste. Feels like cleaning my teeth with sand.

Also what's the general consensus on Koh Samui in terms of availability of debauchery and amount of 40-50yo degen tourists (I hate them)?

Basically looking for a nice relaxing place with good internet, balling beachhomes, easy access to bars/clubs but not too many oldies (if the latter is even avoidable).
dude you would like phuket better if you want beaches

This time last year some people were hospitalized in and around CM due to problems from breathing the pollution. Schools were told not to let kids play outside between classes.

In Mae Hong Son they're burning down entire mountains. One farang lost his house 'cos the fire spread a little too far.

I was going to say that looks like smoke haze rather than smog. Australia gets the same thing in bushfire season.

Chiang Mai is nice and laid back. A good place to settle at for my first year here. I also have good friends from previous trips to Thailand... so it's perfect. And from here it's not hard to go on a holiday wherever in Thailand.

cm's gotta be the most difficult major area of thailand to take a holiday wherever in thailand. still not that tough tho. plus the commute to the airport is really fast from anywhere.

Yes and no.

If you get caught, chances are very good that you will spend some time in thai jail and they will probably deport you without you even being able to go home and pack. In BKK they do have ID/drug tests at clubs/etc sometimes so the risk is possible. You can get out of a lot things by throwing around a little money, but I haven't read of anyone getting out of being deported and continuing to stay here illegally... this could be because most people are OK doing the legal steps and only the real low lifes that are completely broke are staying here illegally? Not sure...

Outside of BKK in the boonies the risk is very low. But let's say you get into a fender bender or something - then you will have problems.

Lastly, while the fine is capped at 21K, you will also get a stamp saying you overstayed in your Passport. This will negatively affect your future visa applications, particularly when they see you just totally ignored their rules and overstayed for a very long time. But again, it's hard to gauge how bad this will be for getting future visas...

My point is that I wouldn't look at the max fine and think this is a convenient way to extend your stay.
