Similar to the conservative populists in Western Countries who decry foreign investment and immigration, that is what a large majority of Thais are like.
I thought they were only racist toward Indians and blacks..

Hi I am just curious how other 2+2ers are staying past the 3 month visa exception. What are your guys experiences? Are you getting them extended past the 3 months or are you just paying a overstay fee?

Ya probably but they think kinda highly of white people. I mean if you go to a village or even bangkok in some places you walk around and everyone stares at you. Not in tourist towns obv. But it's strange for a first time visiter. In their malls all their manikins are white, and a lot of fashion adverts are of white people.

i think you should bring razors with you from home. the razors over here suck balls.
Razors seem fine for me. I just use the Mach 3 and it seems to be the same as it is abroad. The deodorants here are terrible though. Make sure you bring out what you like to use.

hey guys, I'm gonna be in Phuket in April for 3 weeks. What's the best area/beach to stay there considering I'm travelling with my wife and 2 y.o. son? Can you advise some good hotel in the price range of $50/night or is it better to try and find a villa once we get there? I tried looking for villa on the internet but they're all ridiculously overpriced (like 3k/month for quite an avg. house).

yeah, I'm guesssing the local cops could care less if Joe Blow from Omaha, Nebraska was there 10 years on overstay.. and if he were, I bet they'd accept gifts to look the other way.. of course I would never condone this behavior..

I guess I am more curious not about the overstay...but if anybody has over stayed and been able to re-enter at a different date. Or were you banned from thailand forever lol?

I'm pretty sure if you paid the fine you could leave to Cambodia in the morning and come back that evening on a new visa...

Or better yet you can go before your visa expires and come back the same day-no fine and no hassles later.

I took a return flight without and i'm not planning to use the return flight (was too lazy to buy a Visa etc) but i think now that if i go for a Visa run they'll stamp me for only 15 days, is that right ? Or is it 3 months ? Ty..
Without Visa by land 15 days
without Visa by air 30 days ( can extend for 7 days)
with touristvisa by air/land/spaceship 60 days (can extend 30 days)

Can anyone recommend a site for finding upscale rental homes in Koh Samui ... say 3-4k budget (3-4 people for 1-2 months) though if it's not necessary to spend that much obviously I'd appreciate cheaper.

Also what's the general consensus on Koh Samui in terms of availability of debauchery and amount of 40-50yo degen tourists (I hate them)?

Basically looking for a nice relaxing place with good internet, balling beachhomes, easy access to bars/clubs but not too many oldies (if the latter is even avoidable).

I think one person said it best: if it's made in Thailand, it's cheap. Otherwise it will not be cheap. The problem is that there are very few things made in Thailand.

Vast majority of tailors just take your measurements and ship your order to the same sweat shop factory outside the city to be made. Fabric selection sucks, but if you choose decent fabric the suit won't have a low prices people sometimes post. See if any of them accepts a very small deposit and allows you to pay after you inspect the goods, because I heard bad stories from friends that went to some of the supposedly well known BKK tailors.

Sure, you can get counterfeit goods cheap - but then you're just buying overpriced brandless goods, aren't you? You can do the same in the US over the internet - probably cheaper than LOS streetvendors also.

This needs quoting for emphasis. Check the size on the back. You will find anything from 48mm-56mm.

For razors, I have seen 7/11s sell top of the line Gillette Mach3/4 whatever... I didn't think it was an issue... But other things like deodorants and face washes and whatever else you want - you should consider bringing with you if you are happy with what you have and don't want to experiment with new stuff.

I just merged a couple visa threads with this one. I feel it's better to keep all the information in one place, and everyone who wants to answer questions about Thailand frequents this thread anyway.
