Yeah, can't believe it. So sketchy. Sorry to hear that. I looked through some of his old posts and Requiem4ever wrote 'thanks for a great time last night' and stuff like that. Did anyone else meet him?

I suggest people stop posting pics/maps about where their places are etc

it's still a public forum and there are so many jealous/******ed/poor people out there that will try to scam/do harm to you

I met him when i was in Bangkok a few weeks ago. He showed me (he was alone) Soi Cowboy and Bossy. No really strange things happend. Tried to ask him a few times why he wasn't going out with the other guys in BKK, but he never really answered that question. Also asked Joel about Alexis, but he didn't seem to know him.

It always felt a little bit weird to me, but would never say he could do something like this.

EDIT: Sick story btw, it looks like i was lucky.

Jesus KaizenK, that's a sick story. Ugghhhh!!! Getting drugged is just so scary gee.

That was possibly in response to my story from the Chatter thread? I'll repost it here anyway because it's relavent and drives the point home to be careful. That said I have NFI who was behind the attempt on my stuff, but I was definitely way too blaze with giving out info that didn't need to be given to everyone I met. Not just you guys but girls, randoms I met, even cabbies lol so silly in hindsight.

FWIW! I had two westerners try to get a keycard to my hotel room in Presidents Palace. They knew my full name and nothing else - one of the guys said they were me and lost their wallet. Luckily the security there is good, they scan your passport upon arrival, after this guy wrote my name they pulled my photo up and said "that's not you". I'm a little pissed that they didn't arrest the guys for fraud on the spot but at least they protected my stuff. In return I stupidly forgot to ask to see the security footage on the spot and the next day when I thought to do so it had been wiped over.

They didn't know my room number, which leads me to suspect that it wasn't one of the 2 girls I brought over but who knows, they may have looked at my passport or ID while I was in a shower. That said the one that I semi-suspected of being possible of doing that has been known by Joel / ShipitFMA for ages, he's seen her best friend a ton, and he says there's 0% chance that it was her.

Anyway I'm definitelly not pointing any fingers, it's super confusing for me I have NFI who it could have been. I can't imagine it being too easy to find out my middle names but there's always google. Just be careful!!!

You guys should be more careful who you hang around with imo. It's still a third world country in many aspects. When you have money you become a target.

A month or so before I arrived in Thailand, I received a PM from Requiem4ever, saying hey lets meet for a beer etc etc. So I say sure I'll message you when I arrive. He sounded like a decent dude, and I couldn't have been any more wrong.

Last Thursday evening, we agree to go out to bar/club or whatever. He calls 30 minutes later and says he wants to go to my place and drink beer. I thought he meant go to a bar around my place(I was in a condo off of suk 13, many places to drink), he had a slight accent, I didn't understand him 100%. He arrives at my place and I walk out to the lobby and didn't see him. So I call him and ask him where he is. He's out in front of the Family Mart, which is about 50 meters to the left.

He had 2 bottles of Chang with him, I'm like WTF? This guy just invited himself to my place. He didn't look physically imposing or sinister, so I'm like ok whatever and invite the dude in (says his name is Alex/Alexis). So we shoot the breeze for a little bit, he was quiet, but seemed like a nice enough guy. So we finish the beers and go to Boss club. That place sucked but we end up shooting pool, finishing his bottle of Scotch, and taking 2 girls from there to the next place.....Bossy. (fwiw, i never been to these 2 places before)

We get there, and he has a friend there, and he comes up with 3 beers and hands me one. I take a few drinks and as it turns out, they put something in my drink that made me lose consciousness.

(Some of the following events might be out of order, I don't remember a lot of details)
I awake the next morning/afternoon at the girl's condo (i don't even remember being there)and find that my wallet and key are gone. The 2 girls take me to the police station to file a police report. We go to my condo and this dirtbag cleaned house. My laptop, monitor, a lot of nice clothes, credit cards, camera, ipod, luggage, and cologne were gone- ALL GONE. Miraculously, they didn't find 2 ATM cards that I removed from my wallet before I went out to meet Reqium.

For a moment, I thought the girls were in on it, but they explained everything to me, which most of it i don't really remember at this point, nor does it really matter, and came to a pretty fast conclusion that they were indeed not in on it, requim simply told him he was a friend and they took it hook, line, and sinker. By the time they caught on, it was too late. Actually, I'm pretty sure it was his friend who robbed the joint, Requiem was also at the girl's condo, but apparently would go back and forth to the condo and net cafe below. Most likely, he was communicating to his friend where my condo and what my room number was, and making sure I was out like a light. I was out alright, the Thai girl was almost scared I was dead and would periodically check my pulse and was thinking of calling a doctor.

A week before this happened, I was out with an American/Lao friend who happened to be in town. In the back of the cab, he was telling me to watch my back, there's a lot of desperate people with nothing to lose who will not think twice of taking what you have- he was referring to the Thai locals. Never did it cross my mind that it would be a foreigner to be so desperate and insidious to do something like this.

In retrospect, I think of what I could have done to avoid this, its easy to say I could have done this or that differently- hindsight is 20/20 as they say. I'll just chalk it up to experience and am fortunate that I'm still alive and in relatively good spirits, considering the circumstances.

I think its a longshot he'll ever be caught or that I'll ever run into him, but if I do, I won't show him much mercy. I'll leave him the same way he left me-, but instead of a drug, I'll use my two bare fists..

but beside that night, I had a great time!!
sick, chance of these guys beeing the same ones that tried to rob foldequity?

that means theres def some desperate people browsing these threads looking for people to rob, so i suggest new people only meet up with active posters here that other can vouch for, and that have stayed here for awhile.
and not random guys that send you pm.
so fked up....

That's a crazy story. It's sad something like that had to happen. Now guys who are new to Thailand or are just passing through and looking for someone to have a beer with will have a hard time finding anyone to meet up with. I met around 25 guys from 2+2 in Vientiane and enjoyed meeting all of them. Many were not active in the Thailand threads or had only a handful of posts on 2+2. Now I'll probably be more suspicious.

Not necessarily that would be a crying shame! Just don't tell the super new guys where you're staying. And don't take anyone in your actual room / tell them your room number until you know them kinda well. They can't do anything with just your keys / wallet whatever, they need to know exactly where you're staying. So meeting randoms at a pub or whatever should be fine if we take the most basic precautions.

Also, talking about theft itself not the drugging stuff (urghhhh ) it's not even the biggest deal to get stuff stolen, just an inconvenience. Any world traveller should take out annual multi trip insurance unless your credit card already covers you. I spend $340 AUD / yr through Travel Insurance Direct and am covered for everything with $0 premiums. The policy covers a $5k laptop, unlimited other gadgets up to $2k each, $1k cash, then all the missed flights, medical etc etc. For people that travel as much as us it's a total freeroll - breakeven point is probably 45 days overseas per year or something super low. Just put your passport and backup drives in the hotel safe, and password protect your laptop and you're pretty much watertight, everything can get stolen and within a week you're no poorer. Full disclosure! - I didn't do this until after the incident!!!! They would have been able to plant a trojan, find my passwords - everything, ughhhh

Haha. Unlikely with me being tall and 120kG

The reception told me they were kinda short to mid-height and not much else. There were some other small details but I forget now, the reception didn't remember too much themselves. Look guys - any of you who've seen me out know how sociable I get when drunk, I'm not insinuating anything wrt it coming from the poker community although that's definitely a possible source. Also I'm not sure if I posted my hotel in the thread while I was there - I probably did as I was recommending it to everyone as soon as I stayed cos it's such a good deal. It could be any lurker, one of the two girls I took there, an inside job from someone who knew my name but didn't have the authority to cut keys, and also several random drunk guys I met as well lol.

I'm kicking myself for not seeing the footage I'd love to out the douches for sure! But alas such is life, I was kind flustered at the time, more worried about switching rooms, changing passwords and such than anything else.

Please recommend an OK-Good hotel from Chiang Mai with a stable internet connection.

Near Thapae / Night Market would be great.
