My son and ex live in Thailand and I may be joining them for a while. I mainly bet sports for a living now, and play live. I understand the live poker will be out while I'm there, but what concerns me is getting paid by my offshore sportsbooks.

So my question is, anyone betting sports in Thailand? Are you using Neteller or Moneybookers? Also, is it true that Betfair blocks Thailand? How about Pinnacle?

I would love to add Pinnacle and Betfair. I would love to use Neteller or Moneybookers. But as a US citizen, in Thailand, will I be able to? Suppose I get a Thai bank account? And, how functional is it to get paid by check or wire from offshore sportsbooks into a Thai account?

Thanks if you know. Lots of questions, too, sorry, let me try to be clear:

Can US citizens residing in Thailand open accounts at Pinnacle? At Betfair?
Can they open and use accounts at Moneybookers or Neteller?
Can they open Thai bank accounts and deposit checks or bank wires in USD from offshore books?

Betfair poker site is blocked, but the sports betting site is still usable.

Lottsa questions: Ok I'll give it a shot.

Betfair: Straight up NO! Players can play on betfair here but require a VPN and an acct setup in a betfair accepted country.

Neteller: NO!

Moneybookers: yes, well mostly. You can setup a moneybookers acct with a Thai adress and link it to your Thai Bank Acct. One issue is that you CANNOT deposit onto any gaming site. You can withdraw from them (pokersites at least) and then moneybook the $$ str8 into you Thai bank acct.

Thai Bank accts: Yes. Many banks give you pain but one is very easy. Kasikorn (green bank) is easy to open a THB acct with a local address.

Depositing $$ checks/wires in Thai bank acct. Yes but.... I know of success in depositing a physical FTP $ check in the Thai bank. Drawback was they said up to 1mo to clear. Many other have done wire xfers from Euro/US banks to Thai bank acct with no fuss.

I don't know exactly about bookmaking wires/checks. I assume as long as they even a bit smart about it (not sending from gamblecrazy.com or checks labeled as such) you probably would have success. It strikes me as somethign that is painful initially to establish the route but once it's established you're good to go.

RE: Shots and vaccinations.

I was in the military for a long time and got vaxed for almost everything imaginable. 2+ years ago I got the Hep B, here in Thiland. (Doctors said my previous vax must have just been too long ago). Trust me, you do NOT want to deal with the HEP. I turned yellow and was seriously ill for like >1mo.

On the plus side, the Hep was an excellent diet as I could not eat any fat or alcohol. I lost like 15Kg in 2 mos.

Thanks, Teabag.

So I'm thinking that I can't use Betfair even with VPN because I can't open the original account from here in the US or in Thailand. That's allright, they aren't that useful for US sports.

But does anyone know if Pinnacle is okay with a Thai address? Most likely. Actually, I suppose I can shoot them off an e-mail. But if someone knows, please, chime in.

Moneybookers will be okay for withdrawals, then? That's fine. That's pretty much all I'd use it for. I transfer between books with interbook transfers. In fact, as a financial safety trick, I'd recommend only using books that the other books feel safe in dealing with. One of my biggest pieces of advice to offshore sportsbettors, actually. The books hear all the rumors about each other and know which books are slow to pay off transfers. That's your tip-off. Still don't use Betphoenix, in fact, because it seems no one trusts them yet.

But Moneybookers might still be problematic because some books only allow withdrawals in the same method as deposits.

Well, thanks again teabag, and if anyone else has more good info on sportsbetting from Thailand, please post.

The risk of anything else put together is dwarfed by the risk of being killed on a bike, as hinted above. Be careful on the road - that's the most important advice I can offer anyone in Thailand.

you should definitely get some shots before coming here.. but its better now tan never.
Hepatitis A and B vaccinations are highly recommended, as well as typhoid, tetanus, and japanese encephalitis (depending where you will stay/visit in Thailand). If you are never going up north I think you don't need to worry about JE but that is just off the top of my head.

the standard vaccinations were around $150 in the states, but JE was over $500. I got the first dose of the JE vaccination in Chiang Mai for 240 THB.

After the first dose, you need another shot 3-6 months later to ensure permanent vaccination. Similar with Hepatitis A iirc

you can walk in to any hospital in the whole of Thailand and be out the door in <1 hour almost any day of the week as far as the shots go.

If anyone wants an airasia flight from Phuket to Chiang Mai tomorrow for around 3k baht let me know. I've decided to stay a few extra days but left it too late to change the flight time. I can change the name of the person traveling though up to 6 hours before, so if you fancy it let me know. The flight cost me 4k, but will obv do some sort of deal if you want it.

flight is at 10.30am
