Thailand has always been an off/on again thing for me, for various reasons. Lately I'm back into degen mode and have been doing some research and found some new kinda unsettling rumors I guess.

1. Police crackdown on bars. Apparently the government is raiding the bars and having a big crackdown on sex tourism. I definitely would not want to end up in a Thai prison, and afaik prostitution is illegal, right?

2. Increased crime/sleaze of Nana Plaza. My friend and I figured somewhere close to NEP/Soi Cowboy would be the best considering it'd be our first time down in Thailand. I've been reading a lot of stuff about West Africans around (specifically Guiilvers??) doing some pretty shady ****/being abrasive towards tourist. In general the consensus of NEP was that is had gotten a lot worse in the past few years, and that Soi Cowboy was the only place to be.

3. Best hotel to stay at in ranks of Saftey/Internet/Location of hookers? Basically just looking to grind/bang hookers/meet some 2p2rs for a month.

just found out my unlocked g1 will work in thailand with a prepaid AIS or similar carrier card. does anyone use this phone over there to tether wireless internet to their laptop to play pokerstars of FTP?

Also, if you know whether the AIS data service speed is good enough to run sites like stars that would be really great. I'll be staying in phuket and samui btw!

based upon my limited use of the data service so far i would say no. Dont really know for sure tho. Im sure someone on here has tried it.

Is it edge? I have found that if I have like 2 bars of edge in california I can run pokerstars just fine. T-moble edge also is known to be pretty slow in general....

I've used a Nokia E72 tethered with DTAC/Happy sim card in the town of Patong, and also in Udon Thani to play some cards.. I've played only max 2 tables, and keep the other internet programs to a minimum.. It works ok, every now and again it will drop, but can reconnect quick enough. I just payed 212 baht (199+tax) for 50+50free hours of internet for the month on a prepaid sim.

I just agreed to sign a lease tomorrow for a Condo in bkk, it's an ideal situation being close to everything, and especially the skytrain. And I only had to pay a half month deposit instead of the usual 2 or 3 month crap. Apparently, the lady has another room that will be available, not certain though.

However, the entire condo is wired with TOT internet and I've read its had some bad reviews, OTOH, I've read its pretty good in some cases. If it sucks is there some sort of wireless option I can use?

Very coincidentally I was in that Gullivers some time ago and I saw some of the West Africans you're probably talking about. Seemed pretty shady and I do remember them getting in some kind of problem with some other people. I don't know much about how bad it is since I've only been there once..

Ignore the Africans at Gullivers, they are trying to pull some scams on you and they can also get you into a fight. I think there was a long thread about it on pattaya addicts.

I bought a happy sim card originally, lost my Nokia e61i (a brick..but was solid had some good use for 2 1/2 years),upgrade to E72, went to DTAC store..they restored my number on a DTAC sim (30baht or so)..and I got information on all their plans...I'm on my 3rd 50hours +50 hours for 199baht..which I understand is a 3 month promotion? .. But I would get unlimited for 999baht if your connected 24/7, I think standard price for most of the data plans (12call,TOT, DTAC). I'm currently in Udon Thani..and tethering is working fine..

Going to Laos tomorrow..see how it works there.
