we are definitely down for the night bazaar - can you text me or message me with the time??? as for lunch we might be at the beach or sleeping since we took the night bus last night.

mmerli - thanks for the invite tonight - i didn't get it until 12:45 otherwise we would have went.

thanks guys

I am literally ****ting myself with excitement at the thought of my trip to Thailand. I'll be a solo traveller who's never visited Thailand before so I've decided it would probs be wiser to visit phuket first rather than drop myself in the deep end with Bkk, especially because I've already found perfect accommodation on Kata beach. I plan to visit all the main locations in Thailand during my stay.

As I said a few weeks ago I'm a brit who plays mid stakes nl and will be out from mid feb for around a month, though that could easily turn into alot longer as money and things tying me down back home are not problems. I'm now gonna get pro-active and start pming alot of the Thailand regs for msn etc so I can get to know some of the more experienced guys before I arrive, though please don't hesitate to pm me if you'll be in Thailand around the same time as me. I've been reading the chatter thread and I can't wait for the constant degen nights out/random footy matches, less than 1 month and counting!

are you looking for sites that have houses for rent with pretty pictures or are you just looking for sort of "what can i get for under 1k" deal?

in that case go to www.houseinphuket.com for example. I would drive around myself first though so you don't get the inflated prices through agent.

i can post some pics from my place if you want. I am paying 22k ($670) a month for a 2 storey, 2bedroom place in a "secure" complex with shared pool and a small gym

kitchen. most thai houses don't have an oven but these are meant for foreigners anyway so each house has more of a western kitchen. we got ours few days after I took these pics

downstairs bedroom / grindstation

livingroom

upstrairs bedroom. pretty bad picture. there is ensuite bathroom in both bedrooms and a biggish balcony. i don't go upstairs much though.

hey lessu, where is the apparment? In phuket? It looks pretty cool.
A friend and I are in Patong at the moment and looking for a two bedroom apartment.
Are there any other appartments for rent at your house?
How do you find that?

We are thankful for every help

Edit: how about the internet? is it good?

Yes the place is in rawai. I think I posted more than enough info on a public forum so I won't say more

I think it's fully booked here atm but I can ask to make sure.

I found it just by driving around. I suggest you do the same. There is always places available though not that much in January since it's high season.

There is a shared wireless here that is pretty crappy. I've got TTT adsl which is supposed to be the best one atm. It's decent but not as good as when I moved in here. All the other houses have TOT which is much crappier service. My neighbour said their TOT disconnects atleast once a day for a couple of mins. I've got cdma aircard as backup too and EDGE with iphone so I think I am as set up as I can be here

Do those backup internet connections insta-switch on when the ADSL goes down, so your KK doesn't get folded pf? And if so, how is something like that done?

it's not insta. from the time I notice a disconnection to the time where party realizes that there is interwebs again and lets me click buttons it's about 30 seconds. don't know how fast other sites recognize new connection.

so if you just got dealt KK and it's your turn and internets ****s itself you probably lose that hand but since most sites have timebanks and timebanks for disconnects you shouldn't lose any action if you have put money in the pot (party software works like that, timebank doesnt activate automatically if you haven't put money in)

It really depends on what site you play. FTP is pretty good and I can usually switch over fast enough whilst the D/C timeback is still going. On Ipoker you are just screwed and can't usually log back in for 5 mins

there is a 2 BR available on HU Limit mountain in Kata. they are asking for 25k baht/mo 1 year contract. If I understood correctly, they will want an extra month's deposit for a 6 month lease, and would come down a little in price for a full year's stay.

the place has a great view, 2 BR 2 bath, new furniture (new house) only one of the BRs has A/C... which may be a problem for scandis coming over (I live on the same mountain and never run my A/C)

the hill is a bit steep, but it has the bonus of being dead in the middle of the established 2+2 community. Wolfram and yourface are currently staying on this mountain, as are my roommates and I (I'm the only active 2+2er, but we're all Limit HU players from America)

my guess is this place will go pretty quickly, as it's the only unit available on the whole mountain right now. the same owner has another new house popping up for rent as soon as it's finished, in about a month, right next door, so the opportunity for the community to expand even further is still there.

the place does not have internet yet, but it already has a phone line and cable. If i remember right, that means it'll be a week or so from activation to internet. I don't remember if you can grease palms to speed that up, as we never had to do it, I'm just remembering what NewTeaBag went through. I'm sure Lessu and Mmerli have some experience with how long that will take.

if no one jumps at this quickly, I'll wander up when i have a camera at my disposal and take some pics, but i figured there was a good chance someone would jump at it. PM for info, also, I told the lady to call me when the other rental is available, so hit me up if you want a line on that, as well.

Good hotels with semi reliable internet connection on Pattaya/Phuket/Chiang Mai? Planning to leave Bkk in Wednesday and go see other towns a bit, probably Pattaya first since it's kinda close to Bangkok but not expecting too much tbh.

Also, best way to get from Bkk to Pattaya? Just take a taxi?

Is in a great location though is down a weird little side street so taxi may not be able to find it.

Rooms are pretty small but are nice and well fitted.

Taxi is easiest, but there are tons of buses you can take too, those costs only about 100 baht and the trip goes fast.

About internet in pattaya, how long are you staying?

I'll only be in Pattaya for like 3-4 days or something and haven't decided whether to go to Phuket or Chiang Mai next. Prolly CM for 3-5 days then off to Phuket and small islands like Phi Phi etc.

I need to rent apartment with the friend I'm staying and thinking of Phuket so far mostly, what areas there you recommend? Also, is there any area within a taxi drive from Bangkok that's close to the sea, has decent internet and is suitable for living? Thinking of locations as to where to rent a grindhouse.. starting to like Bangkok after 4 days of staying but I'd really like to live somewhere with not as many people, less traffic, beaches etc.
