im using my '1-2-call' card right now as the 'dtac' net is down atm. you just use 'mwconn' tool with APN: NONE, thats all. but first u need to activate that card.

activate = *120
top-up = *120*PIN#
checkcredit = *121
checkbonus = *121*1#

i played my first session yesterday (12 tables) with the dcat card and its totally playable. just opening tables and seating takes some time. also sometimes a table is sent to bottom out of nothing. but definitly better than expected and maybe all you need.

unfort my stick doesnt support cdma, so i cant get the cat-telecom cdma card. i think the price for their stick was 6k baht. but is it also sim lock free and supports gprs/edge/hdspa... ? also what are the costs for the card + 1 month? and is everything available in their shop in the central festival shopping center? i dont want to drive to phuket town for nothing.

different ppl told me i should avoid driving the traffic circle between chalong/rawai/karon because police would stop falang for driver license. is that true? im not able to show a license. but i accidently drove there 2 times without getting stopped.

150/day or 3k/month is pretty much the max I would pay for a Honda automatic in good condition. I'm not familiar with suzukis, but I assume they're the same since there aren't really any bigger automatic bikes.

.. except the new Honda PCX, which looks like a huge improvement for those of us who don't like to drive a manual. Can't wait to rent that one.

i started driving home, got super lost, finally pulled up to 2 working girls in some weird thai back alleys, they are thinking i want to take them home but i just ask for directions. when i tell them where im living they laugh kinda and point to the moutains, light bulbs go off and i find my way back. Pretty sure i was driving for like an hour too

Are we talking about step or hayate?

steps shouldn't cost more than 3000/month in any case. hayate is a bit bigger and the bigger bikes like honda airblade, yamaha nouvo, suzuki hayate are usually max 4000/month and somewhere you could get them under that.

I've lived in phuket for almost 2 years and almost a year now in rawai. I have been stopped at chalong circle exactly once and I drive there more than once a day at different times. If you have any sort of license from home that is enough to get through. If you are staying long term I would suggest getting thai driver's license. takes a day. I have posted a trip report of getting one in phuket. search the thread for that if you are interested

Hey guys

I'm in Thailand for a month on the Australian 30-day visa waiver program. I would like to stay for up to 6 weeks now. Can I get a visa while I'm in Thailand, or will I have to exit/re-enter?

Thanks!

if you have a normal 30 days stamp (not the tourist visa) you will have to leave the country before that date, or you can opt to just pay and stay the overstaying fees (500bht/day) after getting a 7 day extension at the immigration office

They only check for licenses at chalong roundabout in the hours late morning and early afternoon.. At later hours they only direct traffic (tho they will still stop you if you are not wearing a helmet)
Luckily for people like you and me there are shortcuts/detours you can take to dodge the roundabout in the police baht collecting hours.

On another but slightly related note me and a friend were driving home from Kamala the other day at like 3 am.
We (well I) managed to piss off a car filled with drunk thai guys and in our getaway attempt (we drive Clicks so it probably wouldve been a short chase.........) I managed to violate a traffic law or two and the police were obviously on the spot to collect a few baht from the farangs.......

It is true that you can get a 7-day extension to the 30-day visa exempt stamp but immigrations requires a ticket out of the country for inside that time period.

I guess you could also overstay but this MIGHT get you into trouble if you get caught before you get to the airport so i am not suggesting it.

you could exit and re-enter thailand by land and get a 15-day visa exempt stamp or exit and re-enter by air and get the 30-day stamp again. If you are in either phuket or Bangkok airasia has relatively cheap flights to for example kuala lumpur and singapore and they fly there multiple times per day so you don't have to spend a long time on this so called border run. also neither kuala lumpur nor singapore require a visa from you so there won't be any extra fees if you decide to do this.

Wow you get another full 30-day stamp for an airplane border-run? Thanks man I didn't know that, that opens up my options big time. Singapore it is. Cheers!

happy to help

at the moment there is no limit how many times you can do the 30-day stamp thing in a row. for the land border runs there was a limit of 4 in a row before but that was lifted too

i don't know how your GF adjusts what is appropriate for you to do, but i'll be going to Kata Night bazaar tomorrow for Nang's niece's bday if you want to meet up for a few drinks. pretty likely i'll go to a disco somewhere on the island after that. if you want to just meet for food at some point, i can make an effort to invite you the next time peeps head out to one of our regular eateries for lunch. I expect a trip to Red Chair or Larb Kata tomorrow around 2ish, but it's hard to know for sure when/where/what
