Hey what is good medium stay accommodation in Bangkok? 4 weeks or so. Just need somewhere nice, easy to set up, i.e furnished w working TV and internet, don't mind if it's more of a hotel ...... am aware this has prob been asked already ...... lots of times ...... please humour me thanks.

I lived here for 10 months and they do one-month stays. A few other 2+2ers have done short stays since. It's not smack in the middle of everything, but it's very close to the subway. Obv. furnished/tv/internet. Quite cheap (20k baht/month).

http://www.atriumratchada13.com/ (website is not loading for me right now, but i'm on crappy cambodian internet)

If you're looking for something a scale up in price some places other 2+2ers have stayed are Fraser Suites Sukhumvit or the Grand President. They're probably more like 60k/month (correct me if i'm wrong here). For that price the location is obviously A+.

Hi!

Can someone recommend some good accommodation in Chiang Mai, like studio w internet connection for grinding, maybe swimming pool. What are the prices for studios around in CM?

there are lots of very nice serviced apartments in bkk such as marriot suk 24, marriot sathorn vista, fraser suites sukhumvit, fraser suites urbana sathorn, centrepoint ratchadamri etc. They are all aparthotels so have everything you will need and internet tends to be good-very good. I lived for 6 months in fraser suites urbana sathorn and found it very nice.

no such thing in phuket unfortunately (at least as far as i know). 2p2 hotel of choice in patong is the summer breeze hotel which has good internet (at least it did 2 years ago) and is in the thick of the action. I don't really know about the rest of the island though.

Has anyone traveled up to Issan/Isan yet?? Or is everyone content with seeing other Falangs daily...who make us look like *******s in the eyes of Thais?

I'm currently in Udon Thani and enjoying it.. prices are so cheap.. 10baht for a thai coffee, 30-50baht for a thai meal..

I spent the new years with my GF in her home near Nong Khai, and went and got my Visa extension yesterday at the UT immigration office.. a breeze. Not many other young falangs here..but if your running with friends or need a change of pace from Phuket/Bangkok/Chiang Mai.. I recommend to stop over here..

I know a lot of people use the Thai Embassy in Laos these days for Visas, and recommend UT for a few days. I'm staying near the bus station, as I took the bus up here.. I'm a nit lately..trying to find the cheapest ways in LOS (land of smiles for you noobs). I've spent the last 2 1/2 months in Phuket, and it's a nice break to be out of there..so many non-Thais and prices are high right now. Bangkok for a few days this weekend on my travels back south, but thought I'd mention a place I've not seen much feedback on.

I'd also say I've been using a DTAC pay as you go service on an Nokia E72 for a modem..and no problem wherever I stay for modem access...

I did stay in a barn, and **** in a squat toilet for 5 days (with no TP) during New Years. But 400 baht bought the whole party beer, and we had a good time singing Karaoke, etc.. I was at my GF's "mama's" house. But was fed well, and rent was free..( I kickbacked some baht for the good nature of it). And saw some 'real' Thailand for a change.

I'd also like to comment to all the 'playas' who like playing mental games with the bar girls.. get off your computers for a week and see where they come from, and how they live. It was a welcome change to the norm in Phuket, etc.. But I do miss the great beaches and daily swims in the oceans..

BTW..there are casinos rumored in the works in the North area

Best luck to all in 2010!! Let's keep the poker players in Thailand connected and welcome all the noobs to the LOS in the best way possible.

I've still not met up with any 2p2ers here.. and have been in the LOS for 3 months now.. but would be interested if times work out right... Best of luck..how long are you staying around?? I've found net cafes with FT/Pokerstars software..so there is allways that option.. 30-80bht a hour..just get out of N. America..F*Ck it's cold there right now

NO..that's Vietnamese as you know..because you obviously like it..but haven't seen it.. there are a few Thai equivalents, also Singapore has Laksa which is more of a curried flavour..

So noodles in broth with meat is everywhere..but not the Vietnamese Pho where I've seen..my experience with 'FOOD WAYS' is that it's the territory or the immigrants bringing there home dishes..

for example..my favorite Thai Dish is Kao Soi..but has been hard to find for me outside of Chiang Mai..

re: condoms

You guys saying it's std to bang bargirls without protection are either leveling, ignorant or malicious.

Just wear em for gods sake. We're already leading a high-risk lifestyle by regularly banging sex workers in the first place. It's not worth the extra risk to skip your best bet for avoiding a ton of headaches. That's like playing russian roulette and then putting an extra bullet in the gun.

It's not just aids that can **** up your life. Hep C is out there too (and Hep B if you haven't gotten your shots), and they stick around for life. So does the herp, although condoms don't always prevent that but they do help reduce the risk.

The bacterial diseases aren't a cakewalk either. They're getting more and more resistant to anti-biotics, which is a very scary situation. Imagine being the lucky sod that catches the first strain of the super-clap and has to piss razorblades until they find a new cure. And the great news is that condoms are extremely effective against the bacterial infections.

Then there's the fungal infections. And genital warts (again, not fully preventable by condoms, but they do help). These girls have f-ed up cooters and barebacking them is about as appealing as licking the floor of a public mens room.

So bag up please, at least until you get a steady gf and have her (and you) tested for the works. It's not just for your sake. It's also for the sake of your future partners and their future partners etc etc.

Edit:

Here's another fun fact. Once you've caught one STD the risk of catching others goes up.

It's on the 1-2-call network, bought in ranong approx a week ago cause gf had telephone job interview scheduled during the train ride back to bkk. Put too much cash on it in case she needed to call .au and didn't manage to use it in ~2 days even saving 2p2 threads to read on the plane (protip: not needed with valium + duty free mezcal).

The SIM itself is on my desk, its details are in the bottom of my bag which hasn't been unpacked yet. Apparently it won't roam international so I guess I can't authenticate so I'll take payment on delivery.

Balance is valid until 7/7 so unless you're a total phone call nit it won't go to waste.

Accepting best offer (covering postage from .au ldo) stars/ftp transfer. gogogogogo.

(if this should be in marketplace, mods please move -- thought people in/heading to Thailand more likely to see it here)

help, I need a pair of boots shipped from USA to Chiang Mai...

What is the best reliable and somewhat quick way to ship? DHL? I don't want to pay $100+ if I can avoid it....

.. or the chatter thread, for that matter.

Turns out it will roam:

Dunno if I pay for receiving SMS while roaming but I'll accept offers that way too. I'll include a postcard from australia to sweeten the deal if that'll get me $10. Should also mention that the people in the shop told me this was the best deal to be on for international calling, and data seems pretty cheap but coming from an aussie that doesn't say much.

If noone's shown interest in this admittedly **** deal in ~24h I expect sexytime photos in my inbox thx.

btw, krai put passa thai geng daai yak muu kun. I don't have a keyboard layout and figuring out the spelling would take too long but I'm curious. Bonus points for replies in the correct script as transliteration is a horrible mess.
