Guys, can anyone recommend a gym in Bangkok, close as possible to Sukhumvit 26 (or within easy BTS ride), where I can pay for each visit, rather then a monthly fee?

Hey guys,

I am going to Thailand for 2.5 months.

Do I need to apply for a visa extension or anything?

If so what's the easiest way to do that?

Thanks

So is CAT CDMA the wireless internet to get?

$200usd for the hardware?

Is it worth it if traveling all over Thailand for 1 month? Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket. Does it not work in bkk or pattaya?

What kinda speeds can I expect?

So I am scheduled to leave in three weeks (from USA) for 2.5 months and have not started any visa obtaining procedures.

I'm just worried that 3 weeks might not be enough time to get everything done.

Anyone know who long it takes?

matt (probability),

saw on your leggo blog ages ago that you're going to thailand and thought about leaving you some tips but saw that other people seemed to be giving pretty good advice.

i'm assuming you're american. your best bet is to get the 60 day visa (upon normal tourist entry you only get 30 days) from any of the thai consulates in the USA. find the website for the one closest to you and follow the directions. you will need to send them your passport. obviously you need to do that in advance of leaving by a few weeks.

after that 60 days, you will need to leave the country and come back in. it used to be another 30 days for ground exit / re-entry, but they changed that to 15 - so if that covers your for the rest of your trip, do that. if not you have to fly out and back in, for which you get another 30 days. neither of these will be difficult.

if you're in the north hop a flight to luang prabang in laos or in the south penang malaysia. both well worth staying a day or two before going back to thailand. obviously you could go other places but those are quick and easy.

also: for any domestic air travel use thai air asia. super cheap, efficient, and the hottest damn flight attendants you've ever seen. you won't want to get off the plane.

hope that helps man, chok dee.

edit: just saw your post about time constrictions. three weeks is going to be pushing it, unless you happen to live in a city with a consulate (LA, chicago, ny) then you can take it down there yourself. worst case scenario you will just have to make two visa runs during your trip - again, air travel to neighboring countries is cheap (think ~$80 r/t) and worthwhile.

getting an extension of a 60 day visa would net you another 30 days, so if you got one, you'd be ok.

you have enough time to get a visa even by mail. processing the visa should take couple of business days at most after they receive the letter

i would suggest using registered mail when shipping passport if you need to use mail

When I called the CAT office in Phuket and asked about the CDMA stick, they told me that it was out of order. Appearently they are now switching the modems to USA made modems.

Anyone has any info about this? They are supposed to be smaller are they also better than the old ones?

I guess that this switch is the reason they had the promotion? To sell out the old ones.

maybe. the old ones are still more than good enough for grinding and for other stuff so wouldnt worry about it

if you need one just get anything you can get. seems pretty common that they are out of stock of things

They said that the new modems may be in stock next week.

I am a little bit confused, they also said that the CDMA internet speed was 1-2 megabyte. The info I have gotten before is that the speed should be 3 megabyte, anyone care to give the exact fact please?

Thanks!

Also, is the speed alot slower certain hours of the day or is it always good enough for playing poker without lagging? I hate playing hu when it is lagging.

the speed is up to 3.2mbps in theory

the speed you are actually getting depends on the signal quality (how far are you from a tower) etc

from home i can download about 150kb/s with my cdma. in khao lak i got 250kb/s

i havent needed cdma for a long time but when i did it was always good for grinding

When I am playing at pokerstars more often than not I have only 70-96 percent connection to pokerstars server, and I just cant play with that bad connection, I cant discover betting tells and it also tilts me.

Only hours when I have good connection is in the middle of the night.

This gotta be because of slow internet, right? I have this problem even when I play in an internet cafe that usually have good speed.

I am starting to believe that stick is better than ADSL because so ****** many people are sharing the same cable.

What is your opinion?j I am a novis on internet.

depends which internet package you have from your adsl ISP

I tried myironthumb's tt&t indy in chiang mai and stars would lag as hell

it only needs to be upgraded to premium and it would work just fine
