I'm considering buying a motorbike in Phuket. Any tips or pitfalls to avoid?

Anybody selling or know anyone who's selling? I'd prefer a 125cc automatic but I could settle for less cc's or a manual. I've got an offer for a 7mo old Honda 100cc manual for 20k, but it sounded like the dude could go for less.

Hi guys,

There is sooo much about Thailand on this board. I read the Thailand sticky but had a couple quick questions that Im sure have been addressed before but a quick answer would be awesome.

Whats average roundtrip airfare from the US run if I shop around dates etc.?

What are the best months to visit if I hope to do swimming and other beach activities?

I don't think I've ever paid more than $1200 roundtrip from NYC.

Best months are like Dec-April, but most months are fine other than late August-Mid Nov.

What is the best long term way to to have a cell phone here ? I currently use a DTAC sim and just top up, but seems that I can use it for wireless through my phone..

I think I've seen posts before, but I'm currently in Bangkok and trying to make use of my time here.. what is it for a long term month to month plan.

Also has anyone taken language classes, and what was the experience.. I look to acquire a one year visa at the beginning of the year. Any feedback there?

i'm interested in talking about cell phones as well. primarily avoiding spam SMSs. i use 12call prepaid, and i get 1-2 spam SMSs a day. anyone know of a way to kill them, or have experience with a provider that doesn't have them?

i think even the monthly contracts spam you. i really, really find them annoying.

I just got back from Pattaya for a few days..some of the most beautiful woman I've seen in my life in one place, and ready to play for pay!! Beaches were subpar and floating oils on water surface reminded me why Phuket is the premier place to swim and for beach activity. Pattaya is abound in good deals for staying, food, prices for nightlife... Many retired farangs there, with the young thai girls in arms. If that is your thing, than it's probably the best in the country. It's worth checking out for yourself..only 2 hours by taxi/coach from BKK... pay no more than 800baht for taxi from BKK..and if by bus..around 100baht...

nothing special ..except the 20,000 Isan girls who will keep your pants off and your std gambles high.. another angle of Thailand

Has anyone signed up for a contract with a cell phone provider? and if so, what is needed to sign a contract?

Has anyone gone to a language school? where and how was the experience?

i think bangkok might be a bit confusing for a first timer or maybe i was just a ******. it's so big with horrible traffic and pollution. i think you need to know places to be happy there

cant comment about pattaya since i havent been there

if you like nice scenery and nice beaches phuket is an easy choice

i think before i write my usual novel you should say what you are looking to do on your trip. There is a lot to do at each location but they differ a lot so cant really recommend much until you answer that

There are no contracts unless you're talking about something I'm not familiar with. You pick up a cell phone, SIM card, and then load the card with minutes you buy at 7-11. And it's all exceptionally cheap. I went to a language school in Bangkok. It was excellent; very affordable and the teacher was super energetic and into teaching. The only downside is that when you get used to having 24/7 freedom - classes for a couple of hours each day suddenly feels like a full time job.

you can register any number to your name at each of these operators stands. and probably get a monthly bill too if you choose so

Pretty good description of the walking street part of Pattaya. There is actually much more in Pattaya but the reasons above are why most people go. Pattaya is without a doubt the place to go for degen fun times.

The thing that I wanted to highlight here is this:

Undoubtedly true, what a lot of guys on here don't realise is that Pattaya prices for everything are much cheaper than any other place in Thailand popular with Foreigners (Cheaper than Samui/KPN even), you can get really good deals on apartments there, and it's still within easy driving distance from Bangkok.

There are classier areas of Pattaya too, and nicer beaches than Pattaya beach. If you imagine Pattaya = Patong, then Jomtien = Karon and so on and so forth. Another major advantage of Pattaya is that it doesn't suffer from the power and internet outages that can be a problem on the islands.
