thomas,

I would start looking the eastern part of the island. rawai, chalong, phuket town have a lot of houses you can rent and there are houses for each budget. i think the places are cheap enough so you dont have to live in hotel

CDMA should work well and you might also consider getting a adsl installed if you end up renting a house

i dont have any places i can recommend but you should just come here and drive around looking for places. i think pattaya is cheaper than phuket though so why are you moving if you want to save money?

I have to do a visa run and was thinking of going to Penang and then by bus to Phuket. My thought was, since we are not going to spend any money for a while it would be nicer to lay on a nice beach (doing nothing that costs money) in Phuket than in Pattaya.

The Cat Cdma internet option is also something that is nice, if I get that I can easily find us a 8000 baht per month room without thinking of finding me a place with internet.

Here in Pattata I have to find me an apartment with adsl and that is much more expensive than just a cheap hotel room. (deposits and stuff)

Note that this is just going to be for a couple of months.

I was tninking if we eat very cheap and just plan to lay on the beach, Phuket would not be as expensive after all. But maybe I am wrong?

Thanks!

Right now I'm in the UK and hating every day of the English winter. I want to go to Thailand and grind but all my poker friends here are busy until xmas So I'd really like to join in an existing poker-house setup. I'd like to stay for 1 month starting in early december, though I'm very flexible. Does anyone have any vacancies (or housemates they want to kick out ) ? I play the 200NL hold them.

Question to any of the thailand regs, what are your general thoughts on accomodation there?

If three gamblers wanted to do the baller-house thing for 2-3 months next summer, what's the best way to go about doing so?

A few questions:

Is there any place where you can go in thailand to meet girls where there aren't a whole ton of fat old white dudes holding hands with young thai girls? Seeing that totally makes me nauseous and kills the experience for me.

What's with the holding hands thing? I paid some girl like $10 to give me a (g-rated) massage for an hour. Afterwards, she said she was hungry and I was too so I agreed to go with her to buy food. And walking over there, she kept trying to hold my hand and seemed distressed when I refused. What's that about?

She wanted someone on the way to see it, so she could pretend you're her bf. There's lots of random reasons why that might be a good thing for her at the time (quite many of them having nothing to do with you). If you pushed her away too obviously and someone saw it, she lost face and you suck.

Lol, I didn't push her away too obviously. I wasn't offered a HJ, she said she was hungry. She did come back to my room after dinner without asking if that was ok however. I didn't get the impression I had a choice. She said she was gonna sleep in the other room with the massage table (which was hard and had no cover). Long story after that.

Anyways, I wasn't really asking so much about my particular situation. I mostly wanted to know if the holding hands thing is for her benefit or mine. Because it just made me uncomfortable.

Hi,

I'm going to Bangkok by the end of the year.

two quick questions:

which place do you recommend to stay for a single traveller (near Khao San Road)? I want to have a/c, clean room, comfortable bed and don't want to pay more than ~ 700 baht/night.

second, what do you recommend to do on new year's eve? bed supper club? or staying on khao san road?

lol, i'd love to see that in the typical Malls here in America. Big ol balding fat guy holding hands with a hot spinner, I'd pay good money to see the looks of horror on on everyone's faces..

I don't know if I find it gross.. mostly funny I guess. If they're enjoying themselves and not forcing anything on the girl it's all good. But I admit, I feel sorry for them when they have to put up with a big fat hairy guy goin balls deep on em haha

How did you convince your wife to go with you and your 2 kids to Pattaya with you??? I'm trying really hard to picture this scenario where you're sitting down at breakfast with your wife, trying to convince her to take her and your 2 kids to one of the biggest lairs of smut in the world. Was it a close call with another place like.... Disneyland? I guess Goofy and Mickey Mouse will have to wait!!

You sir, must have some magical powers of persuasion..

i tried this with varying success. Sometimes its obvious to the girl your just after sex so they will say no.

I guess you dont know so much about Pattaya, Pattaya is more than "walking street". Only sextourists or novis people are unaware of that.

Many expat families with kids live in Pattaya. Pattaya is an extremely popular venue for expats not because of the nightlife, but because it has a beach, a large range of very good quality condos for sale, and is still only an hour or so from BKK airport.

There's a lot more to Pattaya than walking street just as there is more to Bangkok than Nana Plaza.

Not really sure what tilts you so much about it. Women with much older boyfriends are common throughout asia, and it's not confined to western tourists.

In fact age differences of 15+ years used to be standard the world over, its only the west that changed. If you don't like it you should probably never leave your home country again.

It's pretty simple really - women are in their reproductive prime from 18-28, men are in their earning prime from 35-50. That's what human relationships have been built on for tens of thousands of years.

There is and seemingly will always be a mixed sentiment about pattaya for obv reasons. since weve had this discussion before ill abstain from this but rather touch down on some places i went in patts on my last visit. i went there with some thai girl for a holiday and we didnt go to walking street one time....

-Megabreaks is owned by the pool champion of Thailand and while im not sure of the hourly cost, i do know its about half of what we pay at hustlers in Bkk for nice brunswick tables.(the girls are hotter there also) its on soi 12 or 13 off 2nd road, lots of signs point to it.

Club Differ-is an all thai club that offers shisha and cheap bottle service, when we went there me and my other friend were the only falang/it was a good time.

Club Noir-is the afterhours for thai people in pattaya, its open till 6ish and they tend to rotate between hip hop or techno far as the nights go, my thai friend used to MC there and one time i went with him/got on the mic a little and got pretty wasted.

About two blocks past soi bukhao is a bunch of small pub/restaurants where thai people go. we got a bottle of whiskey with mixers 300 baht, a bunch of thai food, shisha and cool mixed kiwi and whiskey flavored slushy type drinks. aroi!

There is definitely alot in pattaya past walking st. its also fun to just get on a motorbike and cruise around and see.

I think I'd be ok with 15 year age difference. I think the 30+ year age difference hand holders where the guy seems to be unusually fat, bald, and ugly (even for his age) causes me problems.

They have a map at the Airport Plaza mall in Chiang Mai, it shows that CDMA covers basically everywhere close to the moat/city center. Unless you get a house far away from town I'd imagine you would fit.

I only know of one grinder who uses it, there's also other internet providers here that are perfectly fine for grinding and no upfront cost. I'm using Maxnet, 200+kb dl, no lag on poker, one disconnect in the past 50+ days, about 1.3k baht a month.

almost every place will try to get 2 months deposit first to get a lot of money in from you. you can get it down to one month or less with couple of mins negotiating. i would never leave 2 months deposit anywhere
