Have any of you bought/shopped for monitors in BKK? What kind of price range is one looking at (baht or USD), specifically for 24-26" 1920*1200 ones? Comparable to US/Canada?

I picked up an acer 24" 1920x1080 for 6k at Paragon which is a bit cheaper than US prices.

There was not much selection of larger monitors. Anyhow the bang for your buck gets really bad above 24" anyhow. Like go 30" and you end up paying 30k+ baht for 6 more inches.

Thanks. Very tempted to fly out asap to pick a couple up now, the difference between that and what I'd pay here (Bangladesh) is enough to put a big dent into airfare/accommodation - might as well get a cheap vacation out of it!

does anybody know anything about hiring a tour guide in thailand? I've seen this mentioned on a number of travel forums. Seems like they are reasonably priced and some people have had good results. Worth it for somebody traveling by myself for a week or so?

The most likely choice is meet girl on 1st or 2nd nite. Dig her. She accompanies you on your travel and is a guide with fringe.

On a less serious note:

Any guide you could employ would almost crtainly be only expet in a small locality AND you would hae to work hard to find one who wouldn't just try and bring you to his family/friends buisnesses forgoing the "real" important stuff you wanted to see.

I lie in Phuket and aside from myself or a cpl of other 2p2s here, I know 1 Thai dude I would trust to be fair and knowledgeable .

6k sounds like a good pricefor 24". and yeah 30" are def expensive, but i guess you have to look at it as almost double the workspace on just 6" more.

i paid 14k for my 24" acer a bit over a year ago

Ripping off tourists is the national pastime.

Not really. But they put up with them because of the $$$

Yes, especially in Phuket or any farang-dominated area of Thailand.

I would avoid not only tour guides but also "tour companies" since they are often in league with organised scam/theft rings and at the absolute best you'll pay more for something you could book yourself on the internet.

The best way to find out about Thailand or any place in Asia for that matter is to plonk yourself in a pub that's got a few expats in it and buy them a beer.

I'm looking for a holiday appartment at Ko Samui for 2-3 weeks (1 bedroom). It should be nice (obv.), have stable internet connection and be next to a beach. Has anybody a suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Arriving to Bangkok 13th of January with a grinder friend. Both first timers at Thailand. Will be staying there for a bit, then flying to see other parts of Thailand. Looking for recommendations of good hotels on Bkk which are reasonably priced, close enough to good nightlife (and no, I don't wanna party on a bar filled with drunken idiot British tourists), are balla enough and have grindable internet connection on the hotel rooms (this is important). Thank you!

not sure if its going to be possible on such short notice, but if any 2p2ers want to meet up for a beer one night during that time then let me know, perhaps we can get a group together.
