thanks!
If you wan Patong wild nightlife...

Yorkshire inn or Summer breeze hotel. Both on soi san sabai

If you want Kata beach then kata beach studio.

Booking for trips around other islands can be done here. I reccomend being nice to Rutang and he has Thai frind who books for most 2p2s at best price.

or you can go down the other side of san sabai and stay in that turkish hotel by the pool hall, and see if there is a half white looking kid running around for me?

thanks. this is useful.

is there also good nightlife closer to the beach or is it all concentrated in patong?

how long would it take to get from kata to patong? i.e. would it be feasable to stay by the beach and just get a taxi in and out for nightlife?

how much do taxis roughly cost and do they run all through the night? any other modes of transport?

You're going to get ripped off for taxi's unfortunately, they wont even turn their engine on for less that 300 baht. They run all through the night though.

I think it's like 400-600 baht from Patong to Kata and takes around 30 mins(? cant actually remember)

Their are also buses but I've not known anyone to use them. They are probably pretty cheap though.

Another alternative is just to rent a motorbike. But obv be careful if you decide to go partying on your bike, the roads are dangerous.

The main nightlife is close to the beach, in Patong. But they have smaller bar areas to hang out in Kata and Karon. Phuket town also has a pretty good nightlife scene and it is way less touristy.

You wont find metered taxis in Patong, Kata etc. but motorbike taxi and tuktuks/regular car taxis run all night. They are all massively overpriced though so go for the regular car which is more comfortable and a bit safer than the other choices.

i'd be happy to give you the number to jonny, he's been driving 2+2ers around for a while now, he's trustworthy, friendly, and knowledgable. he'll charge you the same as the Tuk Tuks but he drives a cozy, A/C'd car and won't try and hustle you.

Kata has it's own nightlife, and while it doesn't get as Buck as Patong, it's still plenty of fun. No Discos, though, aside from a place with a live Thai band. there are fun discos in Rawai, Phuket Town, and Patong, and Kata is conveniently central to all those places.

Our Thai friend can still hook you up on tour packages, but that sick deal we were getting on Phi Phi trips has been shut down. everyone has to charge the same price now or get blacklisted by the tour companies.

400 - 600 baht so thats like £8 - £12, right? if thats getting ripped off then i guess im ok with it.

any general bargaining tips? im not going to haggle over ever baht but when it comes to more expensive things id like to have a good strategy!

I haggle over almost everything. But I do it in a friendly casual way, almost jokingly, and always with a smile. I think that's the way to go.

Oh, and I don't do it for the money, I do it cause it's the cultural norm and I enjoy trying to fit in when I'm traveling (when in Rome...). If you don't haggle you'll look like a fool. Same as when farangs Wai waitresses etc.

I am going to be leaving thailand for about two-three months, and I have a lot of stuff that I want to leave here and get when I come back. What is the best way to do this besides asking someone to hold it for me?

Hey guys.

How much money do I need if I plann on staying for two weeks. A broad question, I know, but I still don't have a concrete plan about where exactly I'll be going to.

Any advice is welcome.
