Oh, and there is a copy shop/passport photo service in the new immigration building.
Yeah, definitely a mistake. I've had that happen one time at the old bkk immigration and every other time was 30 days from expiration. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until much later.

yea just notice that it doesn't say don't come to laos, it MIGHT mean all embassies/consulates for tourist visas since you never know about thailand but i guess it is wait and see

you'll be fine in laos atleast for once. after you get that red stamp you might want to look for other options

Electronics from FPPS are a massive ripoff. It's a better Idea to get a gift certificate for an online electronics store and buy the stuff through there.

iPod 160GB is 20,600 FPP's. If you are getting gift certificates they wll give you 1fpps=.016 dollars. 330$ for an iPod through the store, on Amazon they are 239$ at the moment.

Applying for a double entry tourist visa soon (planning to stay 3-6 months in Thailand beginning of next year), any suggestions on which nearby country to do the visa run on and how to do the visa run with (plane, bus, by foot)?

Also, when applying for the visa and when filling the arrival "card" or whatever it's called, I suppose it's wise not to mention anything about planning to play poker there?

I've never been to Thailand before, getting a double entry tourist visa should not be a problem for me right? I live in Finland and the Thai embassy seems to change their rulings quite illogically.

Thoughts on good hotels to stay on at Bkk/Phuket/Chiang Mai/Pattaya/Koh Samui? Especially looking for ones that I don't need to reserve in advance and ones where I can play poker with a laptop. Also, how tough is it to find a good hotel with reasonable prices on high season without reserving it in advance?

More thoughts or advices on renting a grindhouse with one or two friends during high season time?

Thanks.

Reportedly the Helsinki embassy now requires you to show your visa run plane tickets if you want to get a double entry, so plan ahead.

just fly to Laos and you can get another double entry tourist visa over night, which gets you another 90 days

Yeah, just use common sense. I put "student" on everything and its been fine, or unemployed, they never really ask in person

If it is, you get 30 days on arrival, and its like 1.5 hours to Laos where you can go after a month to get the double entry, so it shouldn't be a problem from your embassy, but if it is, its not a problem anyways.

[B] Samui Heritage Resort is very nice in Samui, Bangkok Royal Asia Lodge is good, I would just check AGoda and look for reasonably priced places with good reviews. I have never reserved a hotel in advance (excluding a few hours before arriving) and have never had any problems. High season if you go to a very touristy spot it might be filled, but there are always a lot of options nearby anyways.

Do it.

Thanks.

Thx for responses AwfulFish (I think that was ur FTP name? been a long time). How did you rent your grindhouse in Phuket? What did you do and did someone help you? How did you set the Internet connection etc there and how did you know the price was reasonable for the house and location? Thx again :P

Dagrunt what is your plan for chiang mai? Are you just visiting for a short time? Are you looking for a guesthouse, nice hotel, or serviced apartment? I know of some really nice hotels around the city, but I've never stayed in them so I don't have any experience with their internets unfortunately. Give me a shout if you need any help

WE got shafted hard on the price, it definitely wasn't reasonable. We had a very hard time finding any short-term rentals since we didn't look ahead of time. We just talked with the land lord and they had internet installed very quickly, took only a couple of days. The internet was better than we have in Bangkok by far and it was just standard DSL. I even had a hard time finding anything suitable for me in Bangkok in low season on short notice, mostly due to anything being advertised looking 500x better than it really is.

Best I can recommend is have someone here recommend some places you can check out yourself right away, or have a Thai help. Thats what we did, and that was the only way we could have found anything even.

How do you get a triple entry? Every time I have asked around they always say there is no such thing as a triple entry. No have. How would you get 180 days?

I just wrote down the first hotel on my form. Didn't put down any local guarantor. Immigration didn't seem to care.

Ok help me out guys. I'm going home for xmas in the middle of December and theres a pretty good chance I'm staying home. I want to travel around Thailand a little more before I leave and need some suggestions. So far I've been to BKK, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, and Koh Phi Phi. I'm planning to check out Ayutthaya pretty soon and Lopburi at the end of November for monkey festival (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-wfVgwl-3E). I'd also like to get some beach time before I leave so thinking about Koh Lipe (which looks pretty amazing).

Where else should I check out? Looking for places that are pretty close to BKK (2-4 hour train/bus ride) or somewhere that is definitely worth flying to. Not really interested in Pattaya. Thanks

Yeah, gonna go over there or Koh Lipe. I think Koh Lipe looks pretty amazing but its much farther than Chang, Samet, etc. Sick shot with the tennis ball btw

umm you dont need triple entry...

each entry is worth 90 days(60+30) so double entry is 180 days. just use the 2nd entry one day before the visa expires and voila, you has 180 of stay

Spent 1 night in Bangkok last week on biz. Ended up being a super long day flying in from Singapore on the earliest flight + having to use a driver to get us first to hotel and then another ~ 2 hrs to our meeting site. It made for a long day, so I couldn't really see the city but def plan on coming for a wknd sometime soon to check it out.

Anyway so we were eating I guess on the Cowboy street/lane .... ate at the end of the road at the Dutch pub across from teh British one (Setanta and Sky sports banner). That street was quite the site, seemed like serious debauchery. Didn't end up going into any of the bars as we were super exhausted and had an early flight back.

But what is the deal with all the women outside of the bars? Are they 100% hookers or are the hotter ones (usually holding signs or wtvr) just hostesses trying to get you to go into the bar to spend money on a few Singha's?

If I'm only going to visit Thailand for 1 wknd as a vacation better off going to Bangkok or Pattaya or Phuket or somewhere else?
